Romance
Fluffle replied to Skyleaf's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
@TrueNeutral That's exactly what I have been wondering about for so long. A lot of people who dislike the idea of romance in PoE seem to know - for fact - that Obsidian would handle romances the very same way as modern Bioware does. I have never understood this line of reasoning. -
Wait, even more face reduction? (Could you please tell me, when exactly in the video?) Well anyway, the ingame models of the godlikes and the painted portraits should be two different things. It's normal that your ingame player model does not necessarily look the same way the portrait of that character looks like. In the end my concern is, that I need to know to what extend a portrait of a Death Godlike would be allowed to look humane. So far, I only know that the eyes have to be covered. So okay, what about the chin? Nose? Forehead? Ears? Cheeks? Mouth? The top of the head? The sides of the head? I would really appreciate an elaborate answer to this.

Black Isle implies a volcano? So an Obsidian Ocean would be the area around the volcano? Is the Black Isle an island... or a floating volcano pirate ship? Sailors and traders all across the sea tell the tales of the terror of the floating mountain, the Black Isle. It turns water to stone, obsidian, and the air to scorching mist, and darkens the skies. That, my friend, is why they call it the Obsidian Ocean. Thank you Indeed you could call the area around a volcano or several volcanoes an Obsidian Ocean.

That may be a point. However, the term "Obsidian Ocean" can just be a nick name for any ocean chosen by this very pirate crew. So you don't actually need an actual Obsidian Ocean in the game world, at least to my opinion. Maybe pirates do have their own nick names for oceans. It could be for encoding for example (or just for fun ) If a pirate crew says they're sailing to the "Obsidian Ocean" then non-members will not understand and cannot act on it. Anyway, just one example. I am sure, if you wanted to, you can find many reason why a pirate crew can call themselves "... of the Obsidian Ocean" without the need for an actual ocean called that way. Edit: And why would "Black Isle" work but "Obsidian Ocean" would not?

I notice that many of you want to incorporate the "Obsidian Order" somehow in the new name. It's fine, it's a matter of taste. Personally I am against that. The Obsidian Order is something for the first game. And I would like to see something fresh and new. That's why I like the ending "of the Obsidian Ocean" so much. It is new and yet it is a nod to the original Obsidian Order. However, that is just a matter of opinion and taste, so absolutely no drama there from my side

Technically, a pirate, corsairs and buccaneer aren't exactly the same thing. There is also Privateers. Pirates: thieves with boats (Raiders are a subset, these attack town near the coast) Privateers: Pirates that semi-work for a nation (i.e. get kinda protected by a nation in exchange of harassing their enemies). Buccanneers: pirates and privateers active in the late 1600s. Started as smoked meat seller, moved to piracy because more $$$ to make. Corsairs: British term for foreign Privateers Very insightful, thanks So, what are going to be? And as someone already pointed out, it would be nice to know some words for the above terms in the in game languages.

You guys... So, I have played around a bit and given this some thought. As I understand "only" the eyes have to be covered. So to my opinion the minimum facial cover (black area) would be something like this: To my understanding no one said the forehead has to be covered. Nor the top of the head. Is that correct?

@Rorschach Just to make sure, you did read the article, right? And after reading it you say "This is exactly what I would want to avoid." So does this apply to the entire article, right? "This means more mature situations and dialogue, as Walters notes the first Mass Effect spent a great deal explaining the lore of the world and the different races through the characters than focusing on their individual personalities. "I think we've moved beyond just doing info dumps on characters," Walters says. "It comes back to the circumstances. That is what we should be talking about. What are those people actually thinking right now? I think that's the mature aspect of it. Let's not ignore everything that's going on just so we can have a moment to say, 'I love you.'"" So do you want to avoid this too? Should characters stay info dumps? With what do you disagree on the quote above?
