  1. Sensuki, that is certainly an improvement, but I'd still much rather see an up-to-date and highly customizable sleek version. I mean, the portraits smacked right onto that wood makes me shiver. At least, the portraits would need some kind of frame, and that would make it even more clunky. So, here's my humble suggestion: Why not make two versions? One can be a UI paying homage to the IE-games, and the other an up-to-date sleek version. I know that means twice as much work for the Obsids, but in this way, it will keep most fans happy.
  2. Rob, lovely update (as always)! And Polina certainly has that magic touch when it comes to fantasy creatures, just wow! :D As for the UI, colour me unimpressed. I'll join the crowd that want an up-to-date UI fit for year 2014. Nostalgia is a fantastic mindset at times, but it doesn't come in handy here. And I frankly don't like that wood-and-stone UI frame either. It wasn't very neat then, and now it just tends to blend in with the environment, which is annoying. I'd much rather see NWN2's transparent user interface, where everything can be resized and moved, so that we get to customize those UI-boxes and bars ourselves. Think simplicity. Like someone said, those hokus-pokus-symbols from the IE-games offer nothing, well except sweet nostalgia. I'd love to see larger portraits or the portrait selected getting blown up. As for minimaps and text windows, just make it as nonintrusive as possible, this means no gargoyles hanging off it or caryatids framing them - no cluttered art, just minimalism. If any art at all on the UI-frame, think NWN2-level (except for the too elaborated minimap frame).
  3. Monte: The graphics they started off with aren't exactly breathtaking, but as it is already funded five times over after just five days, Pyrodactyl are now overhauling the entire graphics fitting their the new level of resources thanks to all the support. They will give examples of the new level of art soon. However, judging by the standard for art in the updates, I'm not worried in the least. Also, I just have to mention that anyone pledging $ 10 will get a digital copy of the game, so it ain't exactly on the expensive side.
  4. Hi all! I stumbled across this interesting CRPG over at Kickstarter and I decided to get on the bandwagon yet again. Unrest is a story driven RPG set in ancient India in the midst of an uprising. Play as ordinary men and women struggling for safety, freedom, food for their children, and a chance at peace. Explore the drought and famine stricken streets of an ancient Indian city, where a fog of hunger and discontent shrouds the natural beauty of the land. Use the detailed conversation system to instil fear, command respect and gain the trust and friendship of others. Understand your enemies and make them see your side of the story. The narrative adapts to failure and death - instead of a game over screen, the plot continues and your fate becomes part of it. However, you can still save and load at any time if you want to. Make tough and interesting decisions in the lives of people untouched by destiny. The traditional hero’s quest of prophecy, power, and revenge forms a backdrop to your own struggles. Combat is brutal, decisive…and always avoidable. Bloodshed might be the easy way out in some situations, but has lasting consequences beyond those apparent on the surface. Hand drawn 2D art and soundtrack based on ancient Indian music to help you immerse yourself in the world. Full mod support lets you create your own worlds and adventures. Unrest will be available DRM-Free on multiple digital stores, without any DLC or micro-transactions. We promise. Iron Man mode to make sure you deal with the consequences of your actions (requested by the backers!). I really adore what they are aiming for - a deep RPG in a setting rarely used in western RPGs. I loved D&D adventures that used Asian culture and history in all its diversity for scenarios and campaigns. At that, they've taken away button-bashing combat as a necessity to have a RPG game going, joining the ambition of Torment: Tides of Numenera, for instance. I can't wait to play Unrest, and I hope it gets over-funded a hundred times over. Obviously, I realize this is hardly everybody's cup of tea, but I love the dialogue system with emotes and the way the chapters weave into each other, etc. Oh, I nearly forgot the link. Here it is: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/698883673/unrest-an-unconventional-rpg-set-in-ancient-india
  5. Cean Gúla is right up my alley! It reeks of necromancy and gothic horror. For each piece of news, I'm getting more and more deliriously happy. And the man that hatched the idea of the mega dungeon, I'd like to thank personally, coz I love huge dungeons! Thank you, Bobby!
  6. Vailians with plume hats: Check Ixamitl with bee-keeper suits: Check Full-monty-loving S/M Monks: Check A mean machine dream team in PE goes like this: -A plume hat furbished Vailian Cipher of Orlan blood (ears in the way and clothes dragging in the mud) -An Aumaua monk with a golden loin cloth -A garish Ixamitl chanter singing barber shop with her yoghurt goat Urp This was an update to die for! :D
  7. @Redonkadonk: Thanks for telling us about your hard work, and I'm bizarrely fond of computer pin ball games, and now to get an RPG take on them would be just great! So I happily voted for it. Also, If you'd do a KS on this, it probably would do well if you just asked for a reasonable amount and valid reasons for doing a KS at such a late stage. If anything, those KS I've seen that didn't have Greenlight when they entered Kickstarter sure soon had it after KS came to an end (sometimes even during KS).
  8. Withdrawal is a strong word, let's just say that a great community bustling with joy, expectations and ideas are something that I miss, but I am fairly confident much of that will come to life again when PE finally is delivered. And yes, Osvir has made a master piece here! Kudos to you, Osvir! :D To me, Project Eternity and Divinity: Original Sin are the games I really feel like I am expecting a child, a mix of excitement and trepidation, also the wait in itself is agonizing. Fortunately, my backlog of games are huge, and I also tend to replay all the golden oldies too. Right now I'm having fun with ToEE with Circle of Eight's mudpack, for instance. P.S. Torment will surely be a fantastic treat too, but for slightly different reasons - wonderful interwoven threads of deep story telling; existential, moral and philosophical. It won't be a CRPG world with juicy character creation and talent/skill development, teeming monster compendiums and that general PnP feel of "This is a wonderful setting for a motley crew party".
  9. Even though I have the cinematic railroading of Bioshock Infinite to finish, I set my priorities straight and began playing Temple of Elemental Evil instead! I haven't played that game in like a decade, but now, when I eagerly wait all the turn-based RPG goodness coming out this year, I decided to give it a go again. To my surprise, I found that the game is still being perfected thanks to Circle of Eight - and they have been doing wonders on ToEE. The latest patch came out April 29 2013! Now you get to play it up till level 20, and just about everything seems bug free so far.
  10. Nor did I, Zoraptor. My official bet over at Larian's was 1.011 M, and it landed on 0.964 M or something like that (well minus 12K that Codex/Watch hadn't delivered yet). :D I just wanted to share a priceless chat excerpt from the party. As you well know by now Kirill had some problematic pants that ended up with him flashing a butt crack: "Swen: @kirill what was your reaction to finding out you get an orchestra? Kirill: @swen is this pg18? Swe:n @kirill I dont think that really matters now everyone has seen your butt"
  11. Swen just confirmed it, the $1M is met! WE DID IT! Kirill is playing, and I am shaking! WOOS! :D BAAH!
  12. 14 minutes left, 16K to go, Swen's latest report! :D
  13. Logging in on the move: Not even 63K now and 3 hours to go. PLEDGE, PLEDGE, PLEDGE! BAAH! :D
  14. Nghh! It's just 75K left till the might Million and the stretch goal that will make D:OS truly awesome. 4 hours or so on the clock. Up your pledges or pledge at least something, if you love CRPGs! :D
  15. Alright, this is the last call, truly, it's just six hours to go, and that sacred stretch goal of $ 1M is like 85K away! Here is the last update from Larian: Roll the drums!!! Homing in on the last stretch goal! Update #34 · Apr 26, 2013 · 13 comments The last stretch goalAt the time of writing we are around 90K away from reaching our final stretch goal, taking into account paypal and the fundraisers by RPGCodex & RPGWatch. We're homing in! 1. If we make it or not to our last stretch goal remains to be seen, but we're extremely happy already. The results of this Kickstarter campaign have been fantastic and you guys are simply the best! 2. We still have a number of hours to go, so keep on spreading the word. All it takes now to reach the final stretch goal is everybody upping their pledge with 5$, or a few more backers. 3. Here's why you want that final stretch goal to happen The final countdownWill be streamed live on our twitch.tv channel and promises to be quite an event with plenty of gameplay, questions and answers, music from Kirill Pokrovsky and live imagery from the Larian Studios after party. 16. It's only 10 hours left, so this is a fit last call! Ten Reasons Why Divinity: Original Sin Deserves My Money Within the first five minutes of my play session with the alpha version of Divinity: Original Sin, I killed Larian Studios' Swen Vincke. "So I see you are readying a fireball spell," he said, and I shot him. I'm counting that as the first of ten reasons why the Kickstarter prequel to the Divine Divinity role-playing game series deserves my cash — being able to set fire to the founder and CEO of the studio making the game. Everyone mark that down. It's not about the action, as pleasing as it was, as much as it is the freedom to perform that action. This is a cooperative multiplayer role-playing game where the 'cooperative' bits aren't mandatory. Like the pen-and-paper RPGs that spawned the genre, I don't have to either love or hate my party — should they need a reminder of my power, I'm free to give it. Divinity: Original Sin, which Larian is calling its "dream RPG," does not need my money. Today is the last day of the PC game's $400,000 Kickstarter campaign, successfully funded back on April 9. The project's met all stretch goals but one, and at this rate it might even hit the million dollar mark before it ends. It's going to happen. The question here is whether or not I should attempt to scrounge up enough change to jump on the bandwagon before the time is up. I've come up with ten compelling reasons, beginning with... 1. Killing Swen Vincke with a Fireball He's a nice guy, but a bit too trusting. 2. Divine Divinity of Divining Divinations 2002's PC role-playing game Divine Divinity brought me hours upon hours of laughter and joy. Once I stopped making fun of the name and actually played the game — well, that was pretty damn entertaining too. It was Diablo, only with branching dialogue trees and non-combat skills. So really, almost better than Diablo. 3. It's Free-Roaming. It's Also Turn-Based. The world is your oyster in Divinity: Original Sin, unless the oyster is aggressive, in which case your world becomes a turn-based battle that you'll probably die in, because oysters are bastards. The game allows players to roam freely about the land, chatting with NPCs, stumbling upon quests, and harvesting items to use in the ridiculously extensive crafting system. When you come across a battle, however, the action goes turn-based. Portraits appear on the side of the screen depicting turn order. Position and sound tactics are incredibly important, as is knowing when to run away and leave your fellow player stuck in battle. That's right, though multiple players are playing at once, one can be in battle while the other is just wandering about. How does this work without tearing a gaping hole in the time-space continuum? Hush now. 4. I Can Wear A Bucket On My Head How many times have you been in a role-playing game, looted a bucket, and just had it sit there in your inventory until you sell or drop it? That's not a problem in Divinity: Original Sin. Got a bucket? Put it on your head. Fishing rod? Wield it like an incredibly bad sword. Got a pumpkin and a knife? Carve that sucker up and make yourself a creepy Jack-o-Lantern helmet. There are regular weapons as well, but why use those while you can make your own? 5. I Can Officially Argue With My Party Original Sin features the party-based dialog promised by games like Star Wars: The Old Republic, only so much more satisfying. Here's how it works. Sir Vincke of Fireball-Face and I wandered upon a clam (I guess it was a clam) trapped in a net, who promised to give us information in exchange for its freedom. After receiving its intel, I was given the choice to leave the creature trapped or free it. I wanted to leave it. Vincke wanted to free it. I attempted to use intimidation to get my way. He used his charms. I lost, but I vowed revenge. That's how a simple conversation can blossom into a full-out friend battle. SExpand 6. A Song Of Ice And Fire. Also Lightning. Your friend casts an ice spell on a group of enemies. You cast a fire spell, melting the ice and leaving them standing in a puddle. Your friend casts a lightning spell, electrifying the water. These intriguing elemental interactions aren't limited to the player-created, either. Pools and barrels of oil might just be lying about, waiting for an irresponsible caster to come along and set them off. Hey, I'm an irresponsible caster! 7. NPCs Do Not Take Any **** If I were an NPC character in a role-playing game and an adventurer wandered up and started rifling through my things, I would call a guard. These NPCs will do just that. I also respect NPCs that violently defend their own honor should you suggest they might have been a little too vigilant in guarding the cottage of a bathing woman. But mostly I respect game developers that know damn well that I am going to cause as much chaos in their game as possible until I get it out of my system. 8. Level Editor Equals Endless Adventure When Divinity: Original Sin ships this fall, it ships with the same level editor Larian used to craft the entire game. That's exciting. It brings to mind the amazing player community that grew around Atari's Neverwinter Nights. Anyone else here hang out at the Palace of Leather & Lace? Just me then? 9. This Man Is Doing The Music Not only is Divinity series composer (and owner of the greatest website ever) Kirill Pokrovsky doing the music for Original Sin, one of the Kickstarter stretch goals armed him with an orchestra. He's a force of nature, and now he has an army. 10. Killing Swen Vincke It really counts as two. You can read more about Divinity: Original Sin at the official website and the Kickstarter page. I can guarantee you it'll be worth your money, but it's worth mine. Or it would be if I weren't broke. Man, glad I went through all that. Mike Fahey - Kotaku
  17. Agreed. People should start to get over it already as it's well in the process of becoming annoying. Oh, but it's much worse than that. It was itchy already at the get-go. You immediately get it under your skin and then you have been infected with the weresheep madness. It's like a beautiful drug with side effects that you are happy with. In short, the weresheep are a cool Larian-smitten bunch that loves a great CRPG when they see one. Beware, it's quite contagious! BAAH!
  18. Alright, folks, here's an important bit of pledge info that Larian has forgot to put up on the KS page, but Swen has confirmed when Garod asked about it. From now on it is possible to get all PHYSICAL ADD-ONS and still pick A DIGITAL TIER. Just add $10 shipping for Europe or $15 dollar shipping for the rest of the world. For instance, you can pick whatever digital tier and then add a Weresheep of Original Sin T-shirt, this is what I just did when I woke up and found out about it.
  19. Gumbercules: That was a very, very interesting video about archery. Wow! Bye, bye, Legolas. Lars Andersen ftw! :D
  20. The last 48 hours, 700K stretch goal achieved and something special... Update #28 · Apr 24, 2013 · 44 comments The last 48 hoursThanks to you, we had a great campaign. The result so far exceeds our initial expectations and it's really been a great ride. You can't imagine how excited we are that we're going to be able to make our game so much better, and the motivation we took with us from this campaign is going to be worth a lot more gameplay than mere money can buy. As we enter the last 48 hours of Divinity: Original Sin's Kickstarter we're going to give everything we've got to further spread the word and who knows, perhaps we'll even manage to reach our final stretch goal! Thank you! 700K reached, Kirill gets a symphonic orchestra If we include Paypal in the total amount, the 700K goal goal is reached already and that means that the music of our brilliant composer, Kirill Pokrovsky, will now be performed by a symphonic orchestra! This will be a first in the history of the Divinity games and we'll release moving pictures once the recordings are in progress. You can imagine that Kirill is very happy!!! Or perhaps not...his love for writing sheet music is legendary To celebrate this goal, ALL our Kickstarter backers will receive a free digital copy of a very unique Divinity audio CD with remastered and remixed music from "Beyond Divinity" and "Divine Divinity". Something specialIn supporting Divinity: Original Sin, you're not just supporting one RPG, but several RPGs that we are planning to make. Here's the full story of what we at Larian Studios are up to. You'll be surprised at some of the footage you'll see, in a pleasant nostalgic way. Anybody moderately interested in making his own RPG adventure should watch this video! Remember, this is not an announcement, but obviously, it's something we're strongly thinking about. Who knows, maybe with your help it can even become reality. We're going to be making RPGs for some time still, so anything is possible Congratulations to Vincent & Liesbeth!!!Vincent, a wonderful level designer and , can add a beautiful daughter to his list of achievements! Congratulations from all of us at Larian. You are entitled to smoke one cigar, and then you need to quit smoking!!! Add-ons & rewards overviewWe support adding extras to your pledge and give you one or more add-ons for it. This way you can customize your rewards. How? Weresheep models are also available. Female T-Shirts now also available!!! Shout outs!We received support from a number of other developers here on Kickstarter throughout this campaign and we'd like to thank them all for their support. We suspect you know about them already, but if you don't, be sure to check them out. Pretty cool stuff and for them, it's the same story as for us - the more support you give them, the better their games will be. The better the games, the more successful the developers. The more successful the developers, the stronger the walls of their independence. The stronger their independence, the more gameplay innovation you can expect. This is a very worthwhile cause if you like games, so spread the word! Battle worlds Kronos, made by King Art games - an awesome new turn-based strategy game. If you're into these games, get this. They still have 3 days to go and some cool stretch goals to achieve. Torment, made by inXile - the spiritual successor to Planescape Torment with an all-star team. It's going to be great! Even if their campaign is over, you can still fund them on Paypal. Project Eternity by Obsidian - an isometric RPG of the type we like. We have quite a few Obsidian fans in the office so backing this was a no-brainer. Their campaign is over, but you can still fund them via Paypal. Camelot Unchained - a realm vs realm MMO, set in a post-apocalyptic world with plenty of interesting ideas. Camelot Unchained has consistently been above us on kicktraq during our campaign and so there hasn't been a day when we weren't thinking of them The devs put a truckload of their own money in their game, so you can rest assured sure that they believe strongly in their concept. That is always a good sign. They still need some funding to reach their goal, so do check them out. The final countdown! In closingTotal Biscuit just published a of our pre-alpha build! We have no clue what he said because the clock is ticking, but we hope it was nice
  21. "And Lord Crash was never seen again..." NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Let's hope Falcon Black will live to the tell the tale of that one. Btw, there's just like 4K left till $700K, so that Kirill gets his orchestra, which will be very lovely indeed.
  22. Wonderful update! And that town is just so perfectly Medieval; It's got French village vibes all over it. And ogres are always nice to see, but that ogre is phenomenal! :D Also, the skuldr intrigue me, scare me even. They "see" souls, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and bad breath comes with the territory if you look like that. Finally, what Falkon said. It's a pet peeve of mine too. To whatever it takes to avoid DAO's Darkspawn swarming, for instance.
  23. @Michigen: Yup! That is one fun playthru! :D And some other fantastic playthroughs are up: AngryJoe's with Swen: http://angryjoeshow.com/2013/04/divinity-original-sin-preview/ Ohmwrecker's with David: Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch… Part 2:
  24. Macbeth: I had no idea, a Larian friend in our midst here! :D I recall that I appreciated your posts back when PE was launching on KS, and now that you've come clean, I must say, thank you, good sir for making a wonderful game!
