  1. It's one of the new companions in SoD. She's a goblin shaman (similar to a druid) and it's one of the sound sets she says when you click on her. I can understand some people getting annoyed when you click on her to issue a command and she calls you a racist. The full line is: "So, all goblins look alike to you. That's what you're saying? Racist." You go to heal a party member and she says that to you. You might click on her to pick something up and she says that to you. etc. The novelty gets old quickly. Probably would have been better in a dialogue with a goblin party that you meet and she says something to you. I should add, that while other companions say stuff to you and break the fourth wall (eg. Tiax's 'The day will come when Tiax will point and click! and Edwin's "I do not understand this 'mouse magic' that makes me do your bidding".), those companions are responding to your actions in real life. You're using a mouse and the companions respond to you using a mouse. However, M'Khiin response to you clicking on her comes out of left field and the question to you and then calling you a racist isn't a response to what you're doing in real life when playing the game. You can't even answer the question. So I find it a little different to the other companions who do break the fourth wall.
  2. There's three issues I see with this point. 1. Who in this thread has said she is the 'Lead Writer"? People has said she is a writer, not the "lead writer". 2. You seem to be putting her in the 'marketing' role and not a 'writers' role when clearly she is in a writers role: 3. You say you're posting 'facts' but then go on to say: "I imagine..." Which is it? Are you posting 'facts' or are you 'imagining' them? It's been a well established fact that this quote was made back in August 2015. The fact is it's being used by some people showing Amber Scott's intent with adding things into the game and she doesn't care if people think it's forced or fake. Think about that for a second.
  3. Some people requested refunds. https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/50548/refunding-the-collectors-edition-is-it-possible/p1 And there has been a confirmation on another forum that refunds have been given for those that weren't given a Steam key.
  4. Quoting Infinitron's and Phantasma's posts: 0.8% of BG:EE players/owners now have a BG:SoD achievement: http://steamcommunity.com/stats/228280/achievements According to the latest Steamspy stats, that means at least 3500-4300 owners. Plus gog and direct purchases from the beamdog website. Still, 10k is probably max,
  5. Heh. I should start writing random reviews stating how bad some games are just so Gromnir can buy those games to prove the internetz and myself wrong.
  6. Personally, I think there is room for a game between BG1 and BG2. However, I don't think this game fits it due to mostly the story. That is my opinion. Others will disagree. If there were plot holes between the NPCs in BG1 and BG2, SoD makes that even worse by introducing NEW plot holes. Something I didn't mention earlier and is another point I should have written. In case some people may have missed my post, politics was only one of 11 points raised. While the politics have taken a front seat to this game over the internet, I see a LOT more issues and problems with SoD than just the politics. While I could have made a more in depth review and expand on my points, this was just off the top of my head. Here's a screen shot of my previous post to make it more 'simple' for those people. Note: Everyone's different. While you have some people liking or loving this, others will find it disappointing. And I found this game a disappointment.
  7. I already have the GoG versions too. I didn't want the EE version in my GoG library and thankfully with this free steam key I'm using, it's relegated to Steam (which I only have around 20 games on it) that I rarely use.
  8. Yeah I just read another review and some players are advising to stay away until the bugs are patched. Full review is in the link. https://archive.is/aRfwn Edited for brevity to focus on game mechanics below.
  9. Well I am playing it and the technical glitches especially with the reloading a save and the game going into story mode is annoying. Even on the most difficult setting, it's very easy and it's probably due to the unbalancing of new items/spells. TBH, I don't know why the game is easy on Legacy of Bhaal difficulty. The world map is weird. Some of the areas are out of their original positions and some areas I'm a little baffled at first on how to get there because the areas don't line up. Durlag's Tower is way over to the side of the map. Also, clicking on an area and then having to hit the travel button is an extra step that's not needed. Another thing I don't like is the zooming in and out of the town map. I prefer hitting the map key, clicking somewhere on the map and then going back to the play screen. It's pretty much instant in the old games. This zooming out, clicking somewhere on the town map, and then watching the screen zoom in on your new location feels weird to me. I much prefer the old way. There is more magical items and spells which weren't in the original game, it has BG2 type lock picking, traps and spell learning xp, and it feels like someone just installed a mod on the original game for all this new cool phat loot. If there wasn't enough xp in the game, they've added more xp which wasn't needed. Same with unbalancing the game with items and spells. While some people might not like the pixel hunting and prefer the TAB key that highlights everything, I prefer if it wasn't in BG1. There's hidden things on different maps that shows up now. It's hard not to miss anything. Imoen has Detect Traps on all the time which makes the game easier. I assume it disappears when she's fighting but automatically goes back on when she's not. No idea if it's an A.I. script that you can turn on/off. If you roll a fighter character and the STR comes up 18/00, it doesn't show this in the character portrait. It shows 18/100. Probably so people won't assume 00 means 0 instead of 100. This to me feels a little dumbed down. But then the target audience most likely will be people who don't know what 18/00 is. Overall, it feels like a heavily modded unbalanced game. And that's not getting to the expansion. All in my opinion of course. edit: I'd prefer to play BG1 without all these mods but despite this, it's more fun than Pillars of Eternity.
  10. Also, I should add that according to one Steam achievement (with Khalid and Jaheira).
  11. I imagine it's not the official response from Beamdog, however some of the employees have deleted some of their tweets. http://archive.is/tlJCs @Jezebelmagazine @fremfreq These are not real @BaldursGate fans From Dee on the Beamdog forums (I don't have a link atm): Lesson learned, tweet deleted. Of course the original poster in this thread is using a web archive link (which is something I've seen a lot in the last 48 hours, interestingly enough), so I guess deleting the tweet is irrelevant. ------- Now it's appearing on Breitbart of all places. It's getting very surreal. http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2016/04/04/developers-response-to-baldurs-gate-controversy-misses-the-point/ Also the other quote is in the breitbart article (from a kotaku article) about changing the characters of Safana and Jaheria and if you don't like it, then too bad. ------- Also, I spoiled myself with the ending by looking at the spoiler with the end boss in this thread. I wish I didn't now. I'll have to see how it makes sense because at the moment, I'm scratching my head thinking, um what.
  12. Yes. The same with Minsc and his one line reference to GG. Just when you think the whole GG thing has died down, they do this to a well known character. As I said, Beamdog have said the original game is sexist. And if you don't like the changes well then you're "not real Baldurs Gate fans" and "If people don't like it, then too bad". I think the PR from Beamdog is getting worse when you're telling fans that they're not 'real fans' and for them to tell their customers too bad. If I buy something from a shop and there's something I don't like, I don't expect the seller to say to me 'if you don't like it, then too bad'. Anyway, I have a free Steam key and I'm playing through this and finding some anomalous bugs. One is if you're playing on the harder difficulties including the hardest (Legacy of Bhaal) and you happen to reload a save game, sometimes the game will lower the difficulty. Even lowering it to Story Mode which has happened to me quite often where your character is invulnerable, has a STR of 25, a THAC0 in the minuses and can deal acid damage on any weapon you wield even with your fists. They know about this bug so hopefully it will get patched soon.
  13. I find it all rather odd. I've been watching this from the sidelines. Beamdog went back to try and 'fix' the original game as it's quite 'sexist'. Safana has been 'fixed' so she doesn't come across as a sex object and Jaheira has been 'fixed' so she doesn't come across as the 'nagging wife'. I thought Beamdog was making Siege of Dragonspear as an expansion that told the story between BG1 and BG2. Apparently, making a story between two games wasn't enough. They had to go back and 'fix' the original game.
  14. Minsc now had a random line added to the game. "Really, it's all about the ethics in heroic adventuring" - Minsc
  15. Finally got around to playing the three different Torment: Tides of Numenera Alpha tests. Not really sure what I was doing with the combat in the third test. Characters have an Attack, Move and Minor action just like D&D but don't know the Numenera rules enough. So I fumbled my way through it and won the crisis. I don't know if you can lose. I'm sure I was doing some things wrong. However, I did enjoy the combat more than Pillars. I'm a huge fan of the IE games (except IWD2), but I'm glad Torment has turn based combat. It definitely felt better and no over the top animations imo. Overall, the story and setting is compelling I'm left wanting more. Now off to play the beta.
  16. I've gone back to some classic games this weekend and started off with BG1. Rolled a 17,18,18,18,16,5 character pretty quickly. Less than a couple of minutes. Going solo and back at Candlekeep and working my way through the catacombs. Already have a full inventory so will have to decide which items to keep when I come across more loot before I get out. It's been a very fun experience.
  17. Hi Katphood. Your Steam profile says you've only finished Act 1 of PoE and only have 6 achievements (KS Badge, Create 3 potions, Set 5 traps, 5 Stronghold upgrades, make an adventurer and Act 1 finished) and last played 2 months ago. How far did you get into PoE and what made you stop? Also, from your experience with playing PoE, what do you think Obsidian can do to improve Tyranny? What would win you over for you to finish Tranny as opposed to where you stopped with PoE?
  18. I find it humorous that some people are getting worked up over what people are calling SoD. Reminds of people who call comic books graphic novels.
  19. Diablo 1 will work on Windows 7 but you'll need to do some tweaking to get it to work. I googled and compiled a set of instructions from different websites and this is how I did it. I know you don't have the CD, but for those who do, I've included the first step. Installing Diablo on Windows 7 1. Place CD in DVD Drive. - Should install straight away. - Single Player will work despite being version 1.0 - Multiplayer does not work with version 1.0 2. Update with Patch 1.09 - Will not work if you double click on the patch. Gives an error. - Must right click on patch and select Properties and then Compatibility. Tick Windows XP SP2. Run as administrator. - Multiplayer will now work and can connect to Battlenet only. - Colour problem now occurs 3. Registry fix. Download the Registry fix from Blizzard. (This is supposed to fix the colour problem but for some people it doesn't. Step 4 will definitely fix the problem and it's what I use) http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo/d109_x64.reg 4. Fixing Colour Problem / Create Batch file to disable Windows explorer. - Open notepad and paste in: @echo off taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe start /wait Diablo.exe pause start C:\Windows\explorer.exe exit i. Choose all files -> save as WIN7FIX.bat ii. copy WIN7FIX.bat in the Diablo directory (where diablo.exe is) iii. RUN this bat file. DONE! 5. IPX Wrapper for creating IPX Multiplayer games (This will enable you to create a local multiplayer game in order to play Normal, Nightmare and Hell on your own computer) Download IPX Wrapper from: http://www.solemnwarning.net/ipxwrapper/ Copy ipxwrapper.dll, mswsock.dll, and wsock32.dll - copy them to your C:\Diablo directory Hellfire I also managed to get Hellfire to work as well. The 1.01 patch that you download will not work. You have to download the manual files that's been extracted from the exe from the internet. 1. Download manual patch files and copy in your Hellfire directory. 2. You then create a bat file similar to Step 4 above with Diablo. Copy paste the following in Notepad @echo off taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe start /wait Hellfire.exe pause start C:\Windows\explorer.exe exit i. Choose all files -> save as WIN7FIX.bat ii. copy WIN7FIX.bat in the Hellfire directory (where hellfire.exe is) iii. RUN this bat file. DONE!

  21. Just fired up Diablo 2 and indeed it does update to the latest patch. Great stuff.
  22. Good to see this thread was sent back to whence it came. Please don't defile WoT like that again.
