  1. Even SimCity has included newest memes
  2. Initial accusation was from Italian equivalent of The Sun. EU has still not given any official information about they investigation. Belgium was not the final destination for the doses, but where they would have packed for shipping. AZ is only one that has given any official statements about their final destination, which they say were EU and COVAX program, even though most of the doses where from the mentioned Halix factory, which AZ sought approval from EMA after EU had started its investigation.
  3. tax cuts that are funded with debt will eventually worsen deficit, as increasing spending and decreasing income has habit to do. But Lala land dream where tax cut not only increases state income more than lost tax revenue and increased interest, but it increases state income in such extend that state can take even more debt to pay public projects lives strong among modern politicians.
  4. Sputnik is under EMA review. But Sputnik probably will not help EU any way as Russia don't have enough production capacity. Russia offered to Finland technology and patents to produce Sputnik here, but there isn't any realistic scenario where we could produce significant amount of doses before autumn
  5. Like I said there seem to be no information where they were meant to go. AZ says that EU and COVAX program, but considering as most of them are from Halix factory which AZ has not applied approval from EMA, that seems bit strange. EU still has not given any official statement about their investigation about those doses. So admitted isn't probably right term to use at least yet.
  6. EU aren't denying UK's access to vaccines they just setting new prioritization rules for export authorizations for vaccines which will drop UK down in prioritization list because they have their own vaccination production (which all go to domestic use) and they are ahead of most of the world. New rules would rise among other things South Africa and Brazil ahead of UK when it comes to export authorizations. But because UK relies in their strategy so much in vaccines produced in EU, these new authorization scheme will most likely slow down UK's vaccination program 2 months, if they aren't able to get vaccines from other sources, which looks unlikely considering that US and India have banned vaccine exports. UK doesn't want vaccines from China or Russia (who don't seem to have enough production currently capacity actually offer much help).
  7. There don't seem to be any details where doses where meant to go after Belgium. AZ says that doses final destinations were COVAX program and EU, but amount don't match to amounts that AZ had given previously. Big sunk of those doses are from AZ's Halix factory which AZ had not sought EMA's approval until recently. Which means that doses made there can't be sold in EU or send to COVAX program until it has EMA's approval. Where UK has demanded that vaccines produced in AZ's factory needs to be shipped there because of their contract with AZ
  8. Isn't he bit late? Or is his aim to add women in the militia too? "Be it enacted by the Senate and house of representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled That the militia shall consist of every able-bodied male citizen of the respective States, Territories, and the District of Columbia, and every able-bodied male of foreign birth who has declared his intention to become a citizen, who is more than eighteen and less than forty-five years of age, and shall be divided into two classes-the organized militia, to be known as the National Guard of the State, Territory, or District of Columbia, or by such other designations as may be given them by the laws of the respective States or Territories, and the remainder to be known as the Reserve Militia." - Militia Act of 1903 😋
  9. Persians, Arabs (including Syrians) are considered white in US
  10. Next time you make mistake, you can be at least happy that you probably didn't make this bad mistake. EDIT: Although those millions of hours delays in shipments which this has caused and will still cause, do so much economical damage that I am not sure if this should be in Funny sfuff thread
  11. Seems bit paradoxical, but what doesn't these days
  12. It seems that EMA isn't able to say that AZ vaccine doesn't cause dangerous blood clots in really rare (less than 20 cases among 20 million vaccinated people) cases, but thinks that countries should continue to use it because they estimate that it benefits far exceeds any risk (such 2009 statement) and inform patients and doctors and nurses about the possibility such rare blood clots and monitor recipients if they are deemed to be in a risk.
  13. Bruce I need to apologize that I used such hard wording about your British side (as South Africa rejected British Royal family in 1961) head of state family anointed by god to rule over world, I should used more politically correct term nincompoop 😇
  14. Because we don't have royal family, because our selected king refused to take the crown 😋 (In 1918 and we become republic that has president as head of state)
  15. They are royals? They special people selected by god to rule lowly peasants of world. I wonder how they would not be dirtbags
  16. It seems that less than 20% is these days 50% and following shows which countries agreed to follow 1951 Refugee Convention (light green) and 1967 Protocol (yellow) and both (dark green) Also clearly deporting without questions is antithetical to American values, which is why https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49079495 "US expands powers to deport migrants without going to court Under the new rules, migrants who cannot prove they have been in the US continuously for more than two years can be immediately deported." But at least it is consistent with communist governments in past
  17. I would think so, considering that they sold their nuclear reactor business in 2017. "In June 2016 Areva's restructuring plans were made public, including the sale of the majority of its reactor business to EDF in 2017, excluding the Olkiluoto 3 EPR under construction in Finland which will remain with Areva SA. In December 2017, Areva and EDF signed agreements on the transfer of Areva NP's nuclear reactor operations."
  18. That is why it is 12 years late, they have failed to starting from mixing cement and welds adhere Finnish standards. Also Areva seem to though that 2009 deadline was more guideline and actual deadline, but they have had quite harsh lesson both Finnish standards and that deadlines in contracts are actual deadlines, as because of that delay all the extra building cost over that original 3.2 billion comes Areva's pocket. Meaning that Areva is paying over 5.3 billion euros from their own pocket to build that plant.
  19. It is build by French company using Polish workers
  20. Building phase is biggest risk in nuclear power. Because nuclear power plants are complex to build and they are heavily regulated and fault tolerance is almost zero, which can cause massive delays in building them. Like for example here they build new nuclear power plant that starts to operate this year finally (in February 2022 it will be able to produce its full capacity 1600 MW), originally it was scheduled to start operating in 2009, but because of multiple issues it has been delayed for 12 years (project started in 2000, so 21 years to start to finish) and it estimated building cost has increased from 3.2 billion euros to 8.5 billion euros and it delay has caused additional billions of euros lose in forms of needing to buy electricity and heath from alternative sources During that 21 years that it has took to build that power plant they have also build wind power plants that produce 2548 MW with fraction of cost of that nuclear power plant (about 1.5 billion euros). Over 90% of those wind power plants have been build in past 5 years. And there are plans to build 18.5 GW more wind power plants to land and 3 GW to sea in next two decades. So even though nuclear power is much more reliable than wind power, it is easy to out produce nuclear power with wind power and still make more profit from it as long as you are willing to live with the noise and landscape discomfort caused that wind power plants cause.
  21. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/20/us/texas-storm-electric-bills.html?referringSource=articleShare This is reason why I don't like electric market tied price of electricity, as even in best scenarios it gives quite minor savings compared to fixed price and it is vulnerable to price spikes during disasters that will eat all the savings that you could make in decades in couple days. And it does disaster does not need even to be that big, like for example machine break down in one of the base power plants (nuclear power plant, or giant gas/coal power plant) can easily cause 1000% spike for hour or two, even when there is ability to buy electricity from other countries during the outage.
  22. Yeah, although Facebook estimate was "News makes up less than 4% of the content people see in their News Feed." , so they don't see news as something that brings them lots of revenue EDIT: I like that they call it 'News Feed' when 96% content in it is not news
  23. Australian News services don't pay for Facebook for publishing their content there, as Facebook makes its money from ad revenue and selling visibility for the posts. Facebook point for blocking Australian news companies from posting their content in Facebook is that it does not want to pay for them for publishing content in Facebook.
  24. The legislation that caused this was hardline legislation by Australia, which forces US tech companies to pay Australian news companies for their content that appears in their sites. Facebook point in blocking Australian news sites is that it does not want to pay them for content that they publish in its service for free
