  1. So Bows and Guns are what 2H? Or does the hunting bow count as 1H fast or Normal?
  2. It's useful for high DR enemies, the version above is a bit of an approximate seeing I was applying the speed penalty to shot time, recovery time and reload time, when I think it ay only be supposed to effect shot and recovery. Either way once DR is greater than 8-10 (depending on exact model used) Penetrating shot provides an advantage. If gunner just reduces the reload time by half it provides about a 30% boost the DPS for the Pistol.
  3. Yeah war bows need either a couple of points extra damage or a shorter recover period.
  4. Here is a version showing the Pistol as well: I'm a bit lost with this chart.. Why does hunting bow require less +dmg to be competitive than War Bow? I thought it is pretty established that big dmg + slower is more viable than fast and weak. And the speed difference between those bows is 1 tick. Except for pistols of course, because they suck compared to other firearms competition. Pistols are better than the Bows for moderately (DR 8+) enemies, though weaker against lightly armoured enemies.
  5. Halving the damage (graze) actually improves penetrating shot because PS increases the amount of time for which DR is ignored. I've no idea what your trying to do with that formula if you want to calculate the actual average damage over 100 attacks then it becomes (((15*0x)+(35*0.5x)+(50*1x))/100) or 67.5x where x is average damage. This just lowers the actual damage and thus makes penetrating shot even better (assuming ACC - DEF = 0). Conversely after increasing the damage by 300% penetrating shot becomes less and less useful as what is happening there is that the decrease rate of attack has a much bigger impact when each attack does more damage. The Biting whips 1.2x (stacking with might etc) has little overall effect on the conclusion it just increases the total damage and slightly shifts the enemy DR at which PS + the HB or WB becomes better than just the weapon by them selves.
  6. Good luck! Those Specters in Lle a Rhemen will be very happy to see you , clearing the maps on Solo is going to be very very hard.
  7. https://obsproject.com/ Would allow you to record and upload later if you wanted.
  8. Good luck, especially if you decide to try clearing the maps or braving Lle a Rhemen. Any chance of a stream?
  9. So are you talking Triple Crown or Triple Crown Solo they're different achievements in the full game and aren't quite as Anaeme described. Triple Crown is: Path of the Damned, Expert Mode and Trial of Iron enabled. Triple Crown Solo is: Path of the Damned, Expert Mode, Trial of Iron and only your Single player Char. Also are you going to also do the Spear quest in Lle a Rhemen ? Oh and you should stream it
  10. So there are two separate bits: Triple Crown which is: Path of the Damned, Expert mode, Trial of Iron, I could probably pull that one off with a couple of attempts. As in I'd need to build a near optimal party then get used to it with a few fights, before I'd be sure that with the same party I could play through all the dyrwood crossing quests (Egg, Medreth, Ogre & Nobel) in the beta with out a party wipe. Lle a Rhemen probably not at my current level of play. I could probably clear 2/3rds of Lle a Rhemen with out a party wipe but the last two rooms of Spirits always manage to wipe me a couple of times on PoD, maybe if I'd done every other quest in the beta and spammed level 6 spells I might be able to pull it off but it'd be ALOT of resting. As for Triple Crown Solo, which is the same as above but with a single character: Probably not or it would need several attempts I might be able to do it, but I wouldn't fight at all. I know the content well enough now I'd be able to pull off the talking options for all the bosses and using a Rogue with high sneak and with Shadowing beyond I'd be able to avoid most of the combat options. So if you consider talking/bribing/sneaking with no combat as an option then probably for the Dyrwood crossing quests, but again there is no way I could complete Lle a Rhemen with a single character. Outside of Lle a Rhemen sneaking through the cultist dungeon would be the hardest part. In general your under equipped in the Beta to pull this off especially for the Triple Crown Solo.
  11. Yeah that was my conclusion as well and what I didn't understand about Roguelikes previous post as long as the DR reduction increases the damage by greater than 20% it's always better. I was slightly surprised to see though that as the overall damage gets higher Penetrating shot becomes less useful (though it does make some sense).
  12. Ok so maybe I'm making a mistake somewhere with my logic but I'm getting a different conclusion for the use of Penetrating Shot with the Hunting and War bow. Assumptions: I'm using average damage per shot (half way point between min & max) No Might/DMG/Dex modifiers Frames per attack + recovery from roguelikes previous graph (HB 90, WB 135), and assuming 30fps for animations 20% Penalty for Penetrating Shot (so frames HB = 90*1.2=108, WB=162) The minimum damage that can be dealt is 20% of the attack. If I do that I get the following graph of average DPS: Which shows with out penetrating shot: That when enemy DR is less than 8 the Hunting bow is better than the Warbow. The Warbow is slightly better when enemy Damage resistance is between 8-13. For Damage resistance >13 the Hunting bow is slightly better with a higher DPS of ~0.2. Once Penetrating shot is enabled: The Warbow is only better than the hunting bow at between DR 14-17. Penetrating shot is worse than the normal attacks when enemy DR is less than 3. Penetrating shot is better for both weapons for enemy DR's from 3-17 or so then it is worse. This seems to disagree with the previous conclusion that penetrating shot is always worse, in general it seems Hunting bows are slightly better than WB's except against higher DR enemies, and once enemy DR gets over 3 it is generally better to have Penetrating shot enabled. Secondly as the DMG modifiers increase Penetrating shot becomes less useful as less time is spent at minimum damage, while as damage modifiers decreases it's importance increases as more time is spent at min damage. So if this is wrong where am I making a mistake in my assumptions?
  13. I'm not sure none of my machines are that low. I suspect 4GB + dedicated graphics would be fine, but 4GB with Intel graphics may be fine. It'll probably depend on how well they manage to optimise the games memory usage (they have been working on that recently).
  14. The MacBook Airs have the Intel Graphics right? Which means they have to split there RAM between the Graphics system and the OS/Game, and seeing your model apparently only has 4GB of RAM that's likely to be an issue.
  15. It's great I only play on PoD so I've no idea about the difficulty at the easier levels, but at PoD at least the combat is challenging but not impossible. Most things seem to work at this stage the biggest issues I have are some of the mechanics aren't explained as clearly as I'd like so it can take a bit of experimentation to work out exactly how or why things work. From the writing standpoint there has never been any doubt based on what we've seen the in the Beta. With the latest Beta the music is excellent as well. Personally I'm happy with the UI, visuals, inventory and combat. As it stands I'd be happy to play the main game assuming it's no more buggy than the Beta. There are still plenty of bugs left but most of them are minor or edge cases which are less problematic, if you don't go searching for them you probably won't notice most of them.
  16. Aeon Fal'dragon Wood Elf Wizard Scientist Path of the Damned Will primarily play with the companions, but will create a full team of adventurers to hang around the stronghold, they'll all share similar colourings and belong to the Fal'dragon clan (mix of elves, Godlike, adopted Aumaua and Humans), because ya know if you've got a sweet Castle you might as well import a pile of relatives to help fix up the place.
  17. Have you told stream to revalidate the local game cache? It may have become corrupted as I'm not seeing this either on Yosemite.
  18. WTF, seriously... Of all the things that are different some one makes a petition over this, one of the potentially most useful changes and one that no one has actually tried out. And based on your second post you don't really seem to know what your talking about compared even to the very brief description posted by JS. Really the ability to pick up stuff off dead bodies within 3m of your selected party member (about a 5th of a screen width) ruins the game?
  19. Missing Strings More detailed descriptions of Talents, Abilities and Mechanics The Ranger And bugs bugs bugs bugs
  20. I've managed to solo the Medreth fight with a wizard using traps and spells on Hard about 2 builds ago, pretty hard though. My thoughts for solo play is your going to have to specialise in Sneaking (avoid enemies) and Mechanics (Trap damage) and try to avoid every fight possible (at least on Path of the Damned). It's going to be a case of talking and sneaking your way through the story line and side quests, the point with Solo I think is to finish the game not to kill every creature in the game world. Though an Aumaua Rogue with Sensuki's multiple blunderbuss build with some traps may be able to kill a decent proportion of the enemies if they run away after the first couple of shots.
  21. WTF? Uhm the worst might score gives you -21% damage while the highest easily achievable is +33%, so if you've a spell that does 30 average damage setting your Might to 3 (-7) is a 6.3 reduction... while if you maximised it you get an extra 9.9 damage... While it's a difference it's hardly massive, those extra 7 points had to go somewhere so it's likely your Wizard has maximised Intelligence so can hit more enemies at once and has a 50% longer spell duration, or they have high Resolve/Perception and thus better defences (get closer to use short range higher damage spells) or high dex for faster attacks and spell casting. Add in the fact there will be in game items to boost characters Might, (Inns, Potions, Spells, Enhancements and Items) it hardly seems like a big issue 16points dmg difference between a minimal might wizard and a max might is going to make them completely unusable... About the only character build I think might be completely gimped is if you dumped both Resolve and Perception giving you -14 to Deflection and a nasty reduction to both Will and Reflex defences and that is requiring a double dump and 14 free attribute points to be used somewhere else... I agree with many others that in general the Attributes and a reduced effect on gameplay compared to the older games...
  22. They kind of have levels but they only change when shifting to Path of the Damned difficulty. The types and numbers of monsters change with each difficulty level. For example easy may have two spiderlings, while normal has 3 spiderlings + 1 spider, hard has 4 spiders and Path of the Damned has 3 spiderlings and 4 spiders which are all a level or two higher. I think you need to reload when you change difficulty to adjust the monsters (not directly tried that) or change to a new map.
  23. A wizard with the blast line of talents will provide AoE ranged damage with every attack using an implement. A rogue with a blunderbuss and penetrating shot will have a good chance at killing there target with the first shot, and if you give them the talents or race with additional weapon quick slots they'll be able to pull it off two or three times before needing to reload which is slow, they're good with other ranged weapons as well. If they improve the Ranger before release they'd probably work as an OK option with firearms or crossbows if you focus on talents to increase there rate of fire and reload speed. Otherwise just build a normal party and equip every one with a firearm or crossbow which you use for an opening volley before switching to melee weapons doing so still probably allow you to kill a couple of enemies before they can close with you.
  24. I've asked JS about this before and the reply was that it should work at close range even with ranged weapons and while sneaking (when they fix the current sneaking bug which limits it to your char level). As a result a rogue at close range opening with a blunderbuss and day blinding strike will have something like a minimal damage multiplier of 2.5 from the combination of sneak attack, special attack and back stab before weapon and other damage modifiers are applied. That should give a pretty good chance of killing many creatures with the first hit.
  25. I suspect that a figure of 30-40% of the purchase price will likely end up with Obsidian, maybe 20-30% Paradox, 30% GoG/Steam & 10-20% Tax depending on the region. Out of which every one will have to pay tax, so maybe $8M in hand if they sell a Million copies (possible) but the copies are unlikely to all be sold in the first 6 or so months and after that a decent % would probably come when sales are occurring on Steam or GoG so it could be instead that they end up with something closer to $6M in hand over a 1-2 year time period... That's a decent amount of cash but it will be spread over time and thus they're likely to interested in getting some support for the next game... Of course there is always the slight chance that the game may do insanely well and sell 1million copies in the first 6-9months and then another million copies over the next few years in which case all bets are off as to what they'rd do (though they'rd be insanely happy, and you could expect major publishers to announce a string of similar games...). Hell if sales are in the area of 1m in 6-9months and another million or two over the following year you might even see bioware trying a PC focused game rather than another of there interactive movies... I suspect we'd also have a decent chance of seeing Obsidian produce a Pathfinders RPG using a similar style of game play to PoE if PoE did that well. I'd certainly be interested in seeing a JS ars magica RPG or Historical low magic RPG, and would happily throw $30 in it's general direction...
