...So what? Point being that GG does not have a common idealogical ground? Or have i lost track of this conversation? I don't remember claiming that it ever did, so probably yes.- 641 replies

Yupp, definitely. I mean, those who would tout it as Ultimate Proof would betray nothing more but their own ignorance of how statistics work. Censorship in this context is an extremely bad move, it just lends legitimacy to the idea that the poll is somehow relevant. You mean, one that is impossible to answer due to "prominent GG supporter" being impossible to define? I mean, I've provided multiple quotes dripping with racism and misogyny from the Aurini guy who has somehow managed to gather 15k dollars from (presumably) GG supporters, so I guess you could call him "prominent". Or Milo Whatshisname who made a career out of being a professional bigot? Hell, even TB did the casually dismissing death threats thingie (for which he later apologized, but still).- 641 replies

This is also why they generally tend not to offer any meaningful insight into what the wider populace thinks. I mean, you can certainly ascertain what the subgroup of "people who have access to Internet, have time to and like to fill out internet polls, and are aware of the poll in question" think, but these selection criteria are not guaranteed to grant you a representative sample. Gee, it's like you people have never heard of selection bias.- 641 replies

Gee, sorry for not thinking an openly racist and misogynyst scumbag has any valuable opinions about, y'know, social justice. I'm perfectly okay with a racist and misogynyst scumbag offering his opinions on stuff unrelated to racism and misogyny (f'rex, I don't think James Watson should be forbidden from talking about genetics, despite his absolutely vile opinions on black people), but you literally can't discuss Sarkeesian's work (or gamergate-as-an-anti-SJW-movement) in any meaningful way without touching on those issues.- 641 replies

Yeah, Ride the Lightning is both really obvious and really, really crap. Other contenders: KISS - God of Thunder: points for the title, also for this part: I am the lord of the wastelands A modern day Man of Steel I gather darkness to please me* And I command you to kneel Before the GOD OF THUNDER *Reminder: if I choose this, I should pick up Blackout. OTOH, the part about robbing virgin souls literally does not compute. Also, very retro, not in a good way. The Prodigy - Thunder: one could make a case for electronic music fitting well with the guy(/gal/both/neither) manipulating electricity. Lyrics has zero thematic resonance, though. AC/DC - Thunderstruck: 'Nuff said. Then again, if you don't speak Hungarian, it's probably significantly less entertaining. Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God: I like it, despite the lyrics being pretty much antithetical to the character's essence. On the other hand, I can't help but feel that the entire genre of "viking metal" has the same penchant for somewhat silly theatrics Chimron does, making it fitting on a meta level. Title's bad luck, but I guess I could frame it as "twilight-as-decrease-in-ambient-brightness brought on by the Thunder God" instead of its original meaning. As for Elric, his theme song is obvious. If only we could somehow convince him to pick up Medicine... -

That Aurini guy is the most disgusting ****heel I ever listened to on youtube ("we should be absolutely furious with the n***ers... not the blacks, but the f***ing n***ers"; "whites have been working for the past several hundred years to eliminate slavery throughout the globe - and even when we bought the black slaves, we treated them extremely well"; "women in our culture have become the most decadent sluts since the fall of Rome" etc. etc.). The other guy I'm also unfamiliar with.- 641 replies

What does the "white" in white saviorism refer to? How many people exhibiting the behavior in question do you know of from countries where the majority of power is held by people of color?- 641 replies

I like the alliteration, and Powell is good. The other bear is not a kymatologist though, but an expert in teddy bears, so I'm thinking of Paddie or Pooh. Maybe, in honour of one of the original teddy bears: PB or Plush? PB would make it even more alliterate. Oooh, how about PP (short for Philip Powell) and PB? Pooh is also good, regularly saying "poo" ingame pleases the immature parts of my mind. -

Yupp, I've heard from him yesterday. His net died, and his service provider isn't in a hurry to fix it for some reason (hint: they're ****). -
For those of us who'd avoid spoilers: is it any good? Full disclosure: I liked DA2, was extremely displeased with DA1, am generally willing to overlook gameplay issues, but am sick to the death of "save the world" narratives.

Yeah, it was a Toaru Kagaku no RÄ“rugan reference. Re: bear names, the one with the doctorate in entomology should obviously be called Powell, in memory of Philip Powell Calvert, father of studying dragonflies, while the kymatologist shall bear the name Hagen-Poiseuille, because I'm biased towards physiological applications of the field, and couldn't decide between the two gentlemen. Edit: On a second thought, I guess you could go Poiseuille for Powell & Poiseuille alliteration points. "WITNESS THE POWER OF MY POWELL & POISEUILLE BRAND BEAR BLASTER" has a nice ring to it. -

Going off to other countries and telling people there how to conduct their business is pretty much the definition of white saviorism, yes. Without a wider cultural context you'll most definitely lack as an outsider, it's generally considered to be quite rude to start attacking other people's culture. For example, I've heard most african feminists actually consider the issue of genital mutilation to be somewhat low on their priority list, even though most of us would think of that as something that has to be stopped immediately (admittedly, I am very much uneducated on the subject). If they had successful and rich people in abundance, who are also incredibly forthcoming with their opinions, they'd hardly count as "oppressed" groups, wouldn't they? I know this might sound strange, but the plight of Mr. Taylor holds essentially zero interest to the large majority of people in the world (me included, actually).- 641 replies

I've reread the article in question, and have failed to see any mention of him being blamed for tha harrassment of others. It mentions the fact that he was allowed to give an interview in said clothing as indicative of a larger problem in the industry, not him having any sort of malicious intent with it. So, erm, yeah. Oh yes, poor white christian males are the most oppressed members of our society. To arms, people! Thank you for opening my eyes, kind sir, thank you! But to address some of your points (?), while I certainly won't be up in arms to protect poor, oppressed Christians who have no representation in popular media and no voice in the public consciousness at all, I just as certainly won't mock and deride those Christians who decide to voice their complaints about the artist's work. Re: skimpy LGBT people running around half-naked, there's a difference between people doing something (say, running around half-naked in public spaces) in their own free time, and doing the same thing as representatives of a professional community. Also, were said LGBT people to whine about getting arrested and fined because there are laws forbidding running half-naked in public spaces, then yes, the fault would be with them for not looking up whether what they intend to do is illegal or not. Yupp, running off to play White Savior in other countries has always worked so well. If Atlas Shrugged any harder, he'd fall off his father's ****ing couch, amirite?- 641 replies

So you're essentially saying "it's okay for him to offend someone's sensibilities (however idiotic those sensibilities are), but when said someone wants to express that their sensibilities were offended, THAT's a big no-no"? This is a very prevalent and utterly ridiculous stance. If you're willing to cry "freedom of expression" for protecting people's rights to wear tacky T-shirts/draw giant boobs in their art projects/whatever, why don't their critics also get to exercise their freedom of expression by writing scathing articles about what they think of tacky T-shirts/art with giant boobs/whatever? No one is saying that the article shouldn't be published or people should be banned from the social media. What people are angry about is that bullies and authoritarians applying false rage and shame tactics, effectively abusing the kind and gentler side of people. It is simply morally repugnant. Sorry, I don't think "(m)ake your little presumptious judgement of him in silence or amongst your friends, then keep it to yourself" (actual quote) allows for that interpretation.- 641 replies

I propose naming Elric's newly-acquired Two-Headed Science Bear Blaster of Grizzly Death +2 A Certain Scientific Beargun. In other news, Tier increase rapidly approaches, so I think we should start thinking about what to pick up. Given how I'm the group's face/thief, I'm giving serious consideration to Experienced Adventurer, which lets me spend Effort after a noncombat roll to gain a minor effect; the other strong contender, given my propensity for mischief, would be Erase Memories. (I'll probably pick up both.) For Victor, I'm thinking - seeing how healing is problematic due to his mechanical body, and the fact that I spend most combats hiding, while Elric's hopping around with Far Step, usually leaving him alone in the midst of the enemy - Ward would be most beneficial (a permanent +1 increase to Armor); alternatives include Eye for Detail, a useful ability for information-gathering, should Zoli desire to emphasize that aspect of his character, and Blackout, which both synergizes well with his ability to see anywhere and can provide an asset in our sneakier endeavours. As for Elric, the second-tier Nano options are, almost without exception, all pretty nice. Cutting Light is not only a pretty strong ranged weapon, it also doubles as an all-purpose cutting tool. Fetch could help us steal Numenera from our opponents before it could be turned against us (it's also good for stealing mundane objects, but that would be unethical). Force Field increases the tankiness of friendlies (namely Victor) even further. Retrieve Memories lets you communicate with the dead, which is situational, but useful. Reveal lets you give darksight to the party, which synergizes well with Blackout, should Zoli decide to pick that. Shock to the System is a nice disabling ability, which would increase your combat effectiveness. From the corebook, Flash (in-setting equivalent of Fireball) and Mind Reading deserve special mention, but I can (and intend to) pick up the latter when it becomes available to me. Last, but not least is Stasis, which, if I'm interpreting it correctly, lets you yank out an opponent from the flow of time for a minute - a useful combat disable, an even more useful and versatile non-combat tool (letting us have a private discussion or search someone's place for clues while they're frozen in time), and an ability which fits eminently well with the thematics of your Focus. -

I like how you expertly avoid giving anything resembling an answer to my question. Because you answer a question with a question. "Why is it morally good to judge the clothing on some people and not on others?" Well, if you mean, say, rape victims by "others", my answer would be very different from the one I'd give when "others" means "guys dressing up as SS officers as a 'joke'" (a politician in my country pulled that off a few years ago, if I remember correctly). Therefore I asked you to clarify.- 641 replies

And I'm sorry, but it probably has pretty little to do with "SJW pressure". I'm pretty sure if he was wearing a tacky T-shirt with pink unicorns instead of one with half-naked women, his superiors also would have had a serious discussion with him about what is appropriate to wear on occasions like this. Have you ever worked with people from "creative" or "R&D" in large institutions that give them a lot of freedoms as long as they bring results? These institutions get kind of "geeky" or "weird" behaviors, including clothing (or in case of artists lack of thereof). I am sure that the pink unicorn really matters when making big steps in science... You know what, if a person will come up with cures for cancer in all stages, make sure to disregard his/her achievements and not let it go through because he/she loves unicorns... Don;t use social media or computers in geneal, because the people who were pioneers did not have the sense of fashion for the situations and importance of the breakthroughs they were making... They only get the talks if the overall "image and good name" of the istitution is put at risk. Usually it comes up, with addictons or some illegal actions, OR accusations related to political correctness (racism, gender equality, religous tolerance) If I can manage to refrain from wearing shirts with hot babes when I go to the cancer ward, you'd think he can also manage to do the same when presenting his findings to the media. "Looking professional when you interact with people in a function related to your profession" is a big part of being a professional. Others like who?- 641 replies
