Journalism and Bias in the Gaming Industry

Is that an actual Ben Garrison piece, or another drawing with his signature photoshopped in? -
Keep in mind that it's a lot like Event Horizon in that you have to be able to enjoy it despite its warts, and it has a few of those. It's sort of like The Descent mashed up with Event Horizon. The plot is a bit by-the-numbers, but I thought it was executed well.

Watched two horror movies yesterday: Pandorum: I heard this was a spiritual successor to Event Horizon, and so being a big fan of that I decided to watch it. In an entirely personal opinion I preferred Event Horizon's more supernatural approach opposed to Pandorum's scientific one. Had some clever visual elements and an enjoyable plot. Good use of practical effects for the monsters. While I preferred Event Horizon it was still great. Recommended if you like sci-fi horror. Sinister: Pleasantly surprised by this one. Instead of jump-scares every five seconds the movie is content to build a slower atmosphere of dread with only the occasional loud-noise-boo moment. The movie is really great and I heartily enjoyed it, although I feel the final jump-scare was so bad and out of place that it slightly soured my otherwise universal goodwill to the film. Recommended if you like spooky-house horror. Anyhow, two great movies. Ghoulstamp of approval.

I'm not a huge fan of the Joker design myself, but I've come up with a few reasons why I think his appearance might work: 1) Theory: he used to have a more traditional look until he killed Robin and was arrested for it. He got his tattoos and grill while in prison. He'll be breaking out of prison for the first time since he killed Robin during the events of Suicide Squad, and subsequently causing mayhem that the Squad has to clean up. This being the first time he's broken out also explains Batman's retirement. He retired after catching the Joker and putting him away after Robin's murder. 2) Theory: He's a narcissist. He loves his own mystique that he cultivates and deliberately makes into a "brand". Hence his tattoos that all are some variation on the "Joker" theme, except for the Robin one, which he got because of his crowning achievement of killing Batman's sidekick. Hence the Lamborghini with the HAHAHA license plate and tacky suits. He's got a sort of 80s cocaine dealer from Miami vibe around him in those shots. 3) Theory: The DCEU Joker is a gang-leader. We saw his squad busy firing guns in the trailer, but it is possible that this isn't a once off thing that he hired some thugs for. Perhaps he has a stable base of operations that he uses to expand his influence. Those look like gang tattoos, and the Joker having a gang that ink themselves to tie in with his image fits my earlier narcissist theory. Additionally Ayer said that the Joker's look was based off of the looks of Mexican drug cartels, so yeah.

If you really want to complain about Jenner then complain that she's getting acclaim for having done nothing and that the whole "manslaughter" thing is getting swept under the rug by her advocates, not that she's trans. -

Oh Bruce, I've missed your posts in this thread so much. I think deep down everyone in this thread knows that we need you. You're like our muse. -
The original trilogy may have been "childish" as you put it, but they were excellently crafted from beginning to end. They had tremendous heart and imagination, they distilled what we loved about heroes, villains, princesses and dashing rogues into a tight plot that may have been simplistic, but was breathtaking in it's execution. The prequels were dull. They had dull dialogue, they had dull cinematography, dull pacing and the plot was a muddled dull mess. They tried to mask this dullness with flashy cgi and giant overlong computer-generated set pieces, but those just exacerbated the dullness. They had no heart, no soul. The prequels may have been just as 'childish" as the original trilogy, but they were an entirely different beast. A mishmash of design-by-comittee tedium, George Lucas's inflated ego and a lesson in why you need people who can say "no".

Cumberbatch plays as Khan, who wants to resurrect the dragon Smaug and steal the gold from the dwarves. Or something. Spock was a rage filled elf that liked to beat people up with his fists and get down with Uhura. Also Khan's blood was a magical deus ex machina.

I dunno, I found his first Star Trek movie to be mildly entertaining and average. I found Into Darkness thoroughly mediocre-to-bad. But yeah, even to a non-Star Trek fan like me it was obvious that he was less than reverent to the source material. It always sucks when someone decides that an existing fanbase who have been passionate and supported and loved something should just be swept to the side.

It's being directed by JJ Abrams. You can probably expect something of comparable quality to the last two Star Trek films. Twitter kerfuffle. Three dedicated ****posters got about a dozen journos to write stories about a supposedly huge backlash against the Star Wars films for having a black lead.

Bleh. I thought this drama was over days ago.

Apparently the mere thought that someone he doesn't like is going to speak somewhere and possibly be heard (not even agreed with, just heard) is enough to drive Arthur Chu into a frothing rage. -

I feel like I'm really missing out on something with my inability to care about this new Star Wars movie. Everybody is so excited and I'm over here like "Okay."

So just FYI, for those interested in supporting alternate media, Nichegamer has just opened their forums. Go and make an account if you like their stuff. The forums seem to chiefly be talking about Japanese stuff though. Edit: -

I don't understand people like this. Do they think that a thin and easily cracked veneer of "niceness" and having the "correct views" makes up for their sociopathy and lack of empathy? The cherry on top: What is it called when you take some horrible part of your personality and project it onto others so you don't feel so ****ty about yourself? Oh yeah, it's called being a ****ing ***hole. -
Totalbiscuit has some bad news.

I know it sounds silly, but bits of encouragement can help to bolster one's spirits in difficult times. Yeah It's not much, in fact it's rather insubstantial, but it is something. -
He recently wrote a twitlonger: Very sad to hear a man as young as him is facing this. In following tweets he seems determined to beat it though. If you have a twitter account please consider sending the Bains some encouragement.

I have a feeling that single-player will be a stretch-goal. Probably not the first one. Likely one that's in the 1.5-2 mil range. I think a great way for SP to be done would be with procedurally generated maps and councilors to kill. Each individual game would be short, but you could play a new one any time you wanted to. If they wanted to make a campaign with a story the best way to do it would be to put the player in the shoes of one of the teens trying to survive being killed by Jason.
