As bad as VATS is, the real-time FPS combat is hardly better... I agree, but by getting rid of VATS, the FPS combat could be rebalanced into something more straight forward, like STALKER:SOC fps combat. Even that would be a huge improvement over the crappy combat of FO3. Or if they want to stick with skill-basec combat numbers, maybe gofor more of Deus Ex style. Anything, but VATS.

My first humble request to Obsidian is to throw VATS down the garbage chute. Where it belongs.

There's the next Deus Ex game. While it almost certainly wont live up to the original, I'm hoping it will learn from the abject failure of Invisible War and at least be a decent DX-style game.
-
I hope Obsidian gets the official forum. That would be nice. Rather than a redirect.

i hope not. i'm completely incapable of said act. I would struggle with it on any sort of consistent basis. But today is not the day for that! Thank you , Bethesda, for this act of selfless giving. It makes me happy.

Wow. Totally fab. Take a great gameworld and add great developers. Its a win-win! Maybe now FO will be a crpg again. edit: DO we have to say nice things about Bethesda now?
-
... I give you MYTHBUSTERS! of course where else can you see a steel plate slam into a car at 640 miles per hour? I liked the one where they sent the bus flying through the air with the exhaust from a jet engine. Mythbusters ftw.

That was the bottom line for whay I had no interest in the show. If SPike programs somethign they think will appeal to their target audience, I can be pretty sure it is not going to appeal to me. Different tastes and so forth.

What is the point of saying something like that? Alot of years of frustration at ramza's posts all coming out at once. I am in no way criticizing you for whatever frustration you may nor may not feel, but we are a community to at least some degree. Your words just seemed unneccessarily harsh.

One theory I've heard for the increase in US obesity is the increased use of artificial sweetners, which, according to some, cause the body to react to the presence of sweetness without any actual caloric content by actually demanding more food. In other words, you eat something that contains a non-caloric sweetner, the body tastes the sweetnesses and prepares itself for incoming calories, but when no calories are forthcoming, the body gets confused and starts demanding the calories it belives it should have just gotten. Or something like that. I've read a bit on it but that's about it. Its all just thories anyway. Anyway, I don't eat artificial sweetners. If I want sugar, I eat sugar. Personally, I believe its healthier. I just don't eat very much sugar, of course. That's only my personal opnion, of course. I also work out 2 hrs a day M-F. I also know a lot of Americans who aren't the least bit fat.

DFW was a great writer and a totally cool guy. It is very sad.

Have you ever played Deus Ex 1? Or System Shock 1 and 2? Or Terra Nova? Or Thief 1 and 2? Thinking Invisible War is a "best" game is totally cool, if you haven't played other similar games. It's like people who think Bioshock is awesome, but have never played System Shock 2. Now if you have plyaed Deus Ex and yet think Invisible war is a superior game then I go:

I've thought about it. Is there enough of a difference to the way things play out to bother?

After talking about The Wheel of TIme with Purkake in the Dragon Age thread, I decided to give it another shot. I went out and bought The Eye of The World (since I had thrown my previous copy out long ago). The Eye of the World is pretty good, so I wil enjoy reading it again. How long I can stick with the series, I don't know.

DOn't get wrong. I think Torment was a fine games as it was. I wish there were more games like it. But just as Oblivion and FO3 can be cited as examples of crpg-type games which suffer from too little emphasis on dialogue, I think PS:T can be cited as a crpg-type game that places too much emphasis on it. I think FO1 and 2 and BG1 and 2 are better examples of a reasonable amount of dialogue for a crpg. I hope AP falls into that category as well.

I watched the one on Samurai... and it seemed less about the samurai and more Musashi and Schappert. It focused too much on the one character rather than the warriors it was supposed to be about. That one episode did focus on those two. Each episode usually studies a particular warrior culture around a particular event. In most cases, a particularly significant battle. The most recent one focused pretty heavily on the actual tactics employed at the 1565 siege of Malta by the Ottoman Turks, rather than on either the Turks or the Knight s of St. John as a culture. So there is some variation in how each episode presents itself. The samurai episode was the only one that focused some heavily on individuals.

It had a ton of filler. Maybe not so much in content, but it was extremely wordy. Ignus was just a ton of annoying babble. And things like Reekwind's unending spew about hsi farting problem. PS:T seemed to me a prime example of an author falling in love with their own preciousness. Its too bad, too, becuase it diluted all the good stuff that was in there.

I'm noy being critical of anyone in particular. Rather just pointing out that were Obsidian's new project to be a D & D game, it might be nice to think of purchasing the game (if its good) to be about supporting Obsidian rather than supporting 4e.

I would enjoy either a BG3 or IWD3. My only concern on IWD3 is that Josh already did a take on IWD and I didn't enjoy it very much. But IWD wouldn't seem a strong enough IP for Obsidian devs to be getting THAT excited, so I am leaning toward a BG3.

I hope its not a superhero rpg. I hate superheros.

The most important question: was the gladiator in a chariot? Gladiators in chariots rule.

Were there different hosts in an earlier version? Doug ANderson is 5'6" tall, skinny, and ex-military. I wasn't aware he played football. Jimmy isn't the most famous MMA dude around but he has some cred. As usual with tv shows like this, charisma and physical appearance are just as important as actually having street cred. Ultimately it's about entertainign people, mostly non-fighters, and getting them to watch.
-
I thknk you are talking about Fight Quest on the Discovery Channel with Jimmy Smith and Doug Anderson. Its a pretty good show, but ti hasn't been on much recently. I think its had 2 short seasons to this point. Its sometimes a little cringeworthy watching how bad the guys are at some of the styles they try, but they only have a week to learn what other people spend all their lives practicing. I think its remarkable how well they do at their end of the training week fights against native fighters and a tribute to their own skills and toughness in their choosen disciplines. Jimmy, I think, is particularly a tough fighter with his long MMA background, but he often has difficulty with the complex and nuanced moves of the native styles. I keep hoping for a new season.
