  1. No. I don't actually think that was the argument... close, but it had more to do with the fact that although there is a rating system in place, the stores that sell the games apparently aren't responsible for implementing the system. - When I worked in a game store, we always carded, and if it looked like a parent was picking up the game, we let them know what they were actually picking up instead of leaving it to the kids to tell their parents how great the game is, and how much they needed it. The bottom line was if the game industry should be regulated from within or from outside. It was interesting to see how far Leisure Suit Larry has gone from his initial game to the latest.
  2. I find it interesting that the kids see the body laying on the side, but the adults don't seem to. I'm not sure that the tone of the sepia is the right one for the image though.
  3. One thing that they talked about in the show is that there is sex in movies and that is acceptable, but it isn't in computer games. They also went on to talk about if the rating system was acceptable. - and it was pointed out that "not for children" is listed on GTA -- also that the people who are up in arms about GTA:SA should have started making noise when it was realized in GTA that you could hire a prostitute, then beat her up and get your money back.
  4. I can kind of see it now, but your old avatar screams: "I am old enough to be your father." Am I the only minor here? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No. There are a good amount of minors on these boards. I think that you are just the only one who has posted in this thread so far.
  5. The problem of course, is that you are asking for physical age, and not mental age.... Those are often two VERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY different ages.
  6. Did anyone else see this on G4? I hadn't realized what the history was of sex in games... or for that matter how much sex really has been in games.
  7. My old laptop had HD probs. It would have been nice if all the guys at on the helpdesk would have realized that... but it was about the fourth I talked to and all he started by saying "is that your computer I hear in the background" - and ya know, the other guys I had talked to I told them that the computer didn't sound right. Good luck on getting everything backed up, Kaftan. I would suggest if you have that much to back up anyway, you might want to archive the older stuff on DVD's anyway. It's always hard to give up some of your files quickly at hand. That reminds me, I need to do backups of this computer before I get into next semester.
  8. I remember on the old BIS website, the guys - like Josh - would put up some of the stuff up for us as concept art. Then of course, the funny part was trying to figure out the significance of each image.
  9. You want it on a different server. Some of the servers get very upset and will kline or otherwise ban if they see two connections from the same computer. I have no idea why the world is stopping.
  10. I'm not sure that there really is enough to talk about to have a monthly newsletter. I like it when there is more to a newsletter than nice graphics to keep the excitement up about a game - but little content about the game itself. (Most of the gaming newsletters I get I feel are more junkmail than anything else, but I get them incase there is something I want to see). Maybe when they get a large enough staff going where there are multiple games announced in production at any given time. Right now, I'm happy just reading the stuff on the front page, and being on these boards to see what is going on and what is being speculated on.
  11. LOL. Why do so many posters on this forum have a beef with crates? LOL. They are just crates! I feel compelled to hug one for receiving so much bad rep. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well in this case, I added it because I know Krez has a thing for crates... and buckets. I think he keeps hoping of for a family reunion. (I was thinking of this the other day, well, I was thinking of Krez, and can't remember who the other bucket boy was/is. Anyone have any idea what happened to him?)
  12. Make sure that you have two windows open. - 1 for the bot, and another for you. And yes, you should see a list of everyone in the channel, including you and the bot in both windows. other than that I'm not sure what the problem might be.
  13. you are talking about webrpg? I read the info and it says that to use the program they are charging monthly rates. It seems that it had been free (with advertizing), then they asked that people contribute what they want - that didn't work, so now they are charging by the month for use of the program and thier servers. I don't know if you can use the program without using their servers.
  14. well, yeah, the points were skimpy I guess. I did like the fact that you could climb in and out of some of the windows instead of just going though the front door. - unfortunatley, the police could also do this. But it was fun to see the graphics of people actually moving to get through a window as opposed to just the typical click on the door, it's open, walk through. I don't remember how they treated crates though.
  15. I enjoyed Arcanum. It was fun to have magic and tech intertwined. And even the opening shows that magic and "the old ways" doesn't cut it against a good gun.
  16. ok. Does that mean you'll play with me?
  17. I had a boyfriend who was into MUDS. Actually, so was hubby back in the day. I wonder what they have evolved into.
  18. I haven't tried empire earth yet. I've thought of picking it up, but get distracted. I'll look at it again.
  19. Yeah, I'm playing hearts right now. I want something with more interaction though. :D
  20. I hadn't thought of playing civilization online. I tend to like RPG's and city builder type stuff... oh and backgammon.
  21. I don't care for starcraft. Diablo is ok, but aren't there some newer ones?
  22. What I meant was that instead of the players rolling for their own characters in most situations and the GM mostly rolling for the NPCS.. In an IRC game, the GM has to do all the rolling for both PCs and NPCs regardless of whether he uses real dice, bots, or MATLAB code (like I have) :D. no. Each player can do it. The dice bot is in the channel, so that when a roll needs to be done, the player can type 2d6! or some such, and the bot will come back with a number between 2 and 12. The time when this doesn't work well is when the DM is trying to do "private" rolls, but I think opening a private window will allow that. yes, that is a problem. As I said, I don't know if there are any. For the most part the DM has to really know what is going on. And what they say is the final word when it comes to where N/PCs are. IF the player can't explain it well enough, then they need to learn better. I don't have much experience with IRC but wouldn't the /mod screenname +i, +p. +s and similar commands help here? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yep. but different people tend to do things differently, and sometimes that part is forgotten until someone pops in when you aren't expecting them.
  23. I'm trying to figure out some good multiplayer games (with online capabilities). I have the BG series, and the IWD series, and NWN's... what others are out there?
  24. I haven't seen one, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I actually would think that by now someone has done something similar. I was just so use to seeing most things in my head anyway with gaming that I hadn't thought about that ability, nor missed it.
  25. I enjoy it, though admittedly I haven't played online for a couple of years now. Not really. The way that the games I've been in have worked is that we have a "channel" for the game and one for nonsense dribble. :D and of course you can talk in private from one person to another, which is more obvious to others while you are sitting around a table and passing notes, than it is online. Nope, that is the lovely thing about dice bots. Everyone puts in the code, and it works just like real dice... only it can't be loaded for specific people Well. I'm not sure what you are talking about. In most pnp games that I've been in, we use the table top only to show relative relations to a map, and with IRC you can't do that as easily - but creating maps in ascii seems to help. What you end up doing is typing a lot more and explaining your actions. Depending on the DM, you are either typing quite a bit to actually describe what is going on, or you can type less, and just give a general of what you are doing. The best games that I've been in have had people with lots of descriptions. The only problems that I have had with playing on IRC is that lags can cause problems, but that depends more on what net you are on than anything else, the smaller the net the less that gets factored into it. The other problem is people popping in to see what the channel is about, which either means locking the channel, making it private, or allowing only so many people into it at any given time. - the other option there of course is to find a nice quiet net and play there if you are expecting people who aren't always on time. I actually think the biggest problem I had with the games is that people are more likely to drop in and out online than in person... though not necessarily. I really haven't found the game going slower... the DM's that I have played with always expected the players to keep things going, and they set the pace.
