Sawyer took time off from balancing (or whatever else he would do post release) AND from the other Obsidian execs to discuss it. Literally anything else Sawyer and any executives (we already know Urquhart AT THE BARE MINIMUM had to write the PR line) he discussed this with spent doing would have been a better use of time.

I also mentioned before that the claim EVERY OTHER piece of backer content was vetted is also a bold faced lie 1: this ONE piece wasn't vetted but EVERY other one was 2:they allowed a LOT of poorly written stuff, lore breaking stuff and apparently even some fetish insertion stuff so that's one terrible vetting process.

The backer himself has clarified the situation, and while I'm not happy with them even having to do this in the first place - they allowed him to make a joke at the expense of the perma offended people which was even funnier than the other one. Read the comment to backers. Either it's a straight up lie or they would have changed it without backer consent if he didn't give it.

And you know what? The bull**** in the PR line Obsidian put out STILL loses me as a fan. They didn't say the backer wanted it changed, they said THEY wanted to change it. Either Firedorn didn't really have a choice, or Obsidian straight up lied to the people funding it.

Obsidian has marketed Pillars of Exile as a dark fantasy game with a rating and warnings that reflect such. If people find blood and death and sexual content and coarse language to be triggering, then clearly this is not a game for them -- as it is advertised as a game that has content with these themes. The early concept art for the two Original Sin main characters had him in sensible armour and her in cleavage-y boobplate. When people complained about this, the art was changed so that both characters wore sensible armour. Or as sensible as armour ever gets in Larian games. All those spikes, man. Which 1:was changed pre-release when everyone could still withdraw donations 2:they never appoligzed for it, instead they've talked very extensively about how they got physical threats forcing them.

They didn't. The backer gave consent for it to be changed. Obsidian did nothing wrong. Coerced consent is never consent. "Change it or we'll take out the 500 USD thing you payed for with no compensation" is a hell of an agreement.

I enjoy the kind of games Obsidian makes, but any game of sufficent quality works, especially because I've been learning a new language that gives me acess to 30+ years of games I've never experienced before and have developers who are known to laugh these people instead of enabling them. (not to mention Larian, Warhorse and any smaller kickstarter games exist anyways)
