  1. Except that Bioware never needed to release a day 0 patch. You must confuse those with the gentleman at Obsidian (day 0 patch for NWN2). How quickly the bio fanboys forget the mess that was nwn1... took bio months of patching to get the game client stable and half a year+ of patching before the server app was was worth anything due to all the memory leaks (and another 6 months of patching after that to get it fully stable). So while my memory does not recall if a 0 day patch was released for nwn1 certainly the first of many were released not too much later if you want to split hairs. And at least when I first ran nwn2 I could play from start to finish without the client crashing out on me every 30 to 40 mins unlike nwn1. *shrugs* (Not saying it was bug free but at least playable)
  2. Truth. And here's a new Dragon Age interview with some new footage! Click Includes weird bearded dwarfes and seductive fiends! Oh god this game is so gonna rock! Well the proof is in the pudding. And almost EVERY trailer, preview makes a game look great and thus create buzz. That's like.. its goal. *blink* Clearly you are easily persuaded by a marketing machine On a serious note, the trailer was interesting. But the anti-sandbox approach bothers me. I think many folks here are falling into the hype and when they actually play the game some will be posting things like 'WTF... it forces me down the main path and I can't do anything else like in BG!!!!!111'. Anyone want to take me up on that bet we won't see at least a few of those posts? *grin* I do however give them kudos... the mature themes (assuming it does not get cut, nerfed last min) is refreshing from them. I felt the PCs looked... plastic however. Like animated barbie dolls. But OTOH the GUI looked decent enough. Very NWN2-ish in fact. In the end however the video did pique the leo curiosity in me and while I won't say I now will buy it I will however put it on the 'possibility' list and wait a few weeks after release and see what kind of feedback posts it gets, Plus will give bio the time for the traditional 0 day patch.. and then the patch for that patch... heh
  3. Bioware the developer of the SR RPG?! I just threw up in my mouth a little bit... Only RPG dev that could pull it off properly IMO is Obsidian. They are not afraid to deal with dark, mature themes which the SR universe requires and leave the kiddie-fy writing to other devs, like bioware, who don't have the testicular fortitude to do.
  4. Seems the WoD Online project is going from pre-production to full production this march: http://www.wodonlinenews.net/Home/tabid/36...ew-meaning.aspx Which means, so it would seem, some more info coming our way soon.
  5. Could someone give a quick rundown of what new tileset(s) and monsters are in the new nwn2 expansion? Searched the web couldn't find anything specific. Thanks! Edit: Strike that... found a listing. Sounds interesting but clearly very region specific.
  6. Then I think I will pass. If they are going for a Jason Bourne-lite approach, play style, setting then I can play many other watered down games like that. I was hoping they were going to take the setting, atmosphere and subject seriously. Scratch one more game off my list. I'm trying to figure out how you jumped from "more lighthearted than Deus Ex", to "Jason Bourne-lite approach, play style, setting." Just because a game is more lighthearted in tone, it doesn't necessarily mean it's dumbed down. It could be a satire of the spy genre, for example. And that's fine if that's what they are aiming for, however campy, satire, in jokes style of gameplay (which is the impression posters here are leaving me with) I am sure will attract certain folks, I however am not one of them. Again if I am going to play a spy game I rather it be of the mood of DE. To each there own of course Sadly my list of games I am looking forward to is dwindling, I wanted to support obsid but aliens I have 0 interest in and AP seems its style won't either. :/

  8. They said that when they were still promoting Vista. However, Vista turned out to be unpopular, and DX10 didn't really have any important advantages, so they just dropped the ball on that. Not sure about Windows 7 though. Shadowrun could be released on that, but most likely a year later as an afterthought... as with all MS PC titles. They are still producing 'games for windows' titles FO3 and GTA4 being the most recent so I wouldn't worry about a non-pc version. Dual platform odds are, but I think they realize xbox only versions are shooting themselves in the foot. DX10 has some pretty nice features however they are evolutionary, not revolutionary hence why it didn't make a big splash. (I didn't think it was going to). If you look at dx9 and dx10 of the same scene side by side you will see some noticeable difference. But its not earth shattering which I think MS hyped it up to be when it really was closer to dx9.5 level of improvement IMO.
  9. Interesting.. nwn2 has worked fine on my XP 64 platform without issue.
  10. While I am not saying put it in the future, which if I recall AP is placed around modern times anyways, however I think it would be interesting to have the dark, brooding, gothic-like world on the verge of upheaval feel to it (if it is or not story line wise is not the point, the perception however is what I am referring too). DE1 did a lot right, one of them without a doubt was atmosphere. And I think being a new IP obsid really needs to nail the feel and vibe of the world. Make it their own and stand out. While I am not saying photo copy DE I am saying use the overall elements and philosophy those designers did. I think it would make AP stand out as DE did. Let be honest if DE wasn't always set at night in somewhat gothic locals it wouldn't stick out in many peoples minds as it still does today.
  11. Have my doubts about nwn1 considering how old it is but I have heard of folks running nwn2 on vista.
  12. Sorta like GTA4 PC ver then? heh
  13. That is my feeling as well. *IF* this game actually does come out... I might actually be interested. Nice site Rhomal, hopefully more *real* info will come out on this. Thank you, I did my best. Not 100% happy with the skin but its workable for now. Indeed I expect this upcoming year more info will come out. Perhaps not a ton but I have a feeling some. Call it a gut feeling. Hope you pop by often and feel free to jump in the forums!
  14. Said it before and say it again, the Shadowrun universe is screaming for a solid CRPG to be made of it.
  15. Got a source on that? Sounds interesting. Those blizzard peeps sure know how to make a game So let me understand the double standard, wow which is in the dictionary of grindfest is a great game, however anyone else is labeled as a grindfest and dismissed? Seems like the same bias V has of bioware, if it has there name on it HAS to be good. (I love V, no offense intended just my observation which he knows about already). Since we don't know what the system they are going to use is or the type of direction, WoD wise, its quite early to write it off and say they are following in the footsteps of wow or another griendfest. What we do know sounds promising as they do not feel the need to be held chained down by the PnP mechanics which certainly is a plus IMO. What is known can be seen here: http://www.wodonlinenews.net/Wiki/tabid/64...Darkness+MMORPG Which isn't a lot but they apparently are testing out several systems so again they shows me the dev team is very dynamic and open to more then the same formula. Call it dead already if you want but until more details pop up its simply (biased) opinion on your part as no one can make a informed decision until more info comes out.
  16. JE was very much an RPG, because it was, well, the same KOTOR formula but in Asia. The only significant difference was the combat system (which I suppose was 'actiony'). I'll take your word for it, since I never played it. None the less I failed to get hyped about it for whatever reason as that's the impression I was left with.
  17. I am going to regret this but here goes... Thats its biggest strength. its not in a tradition fantasy setting and thus gives freedom to do things with a more modern approach and very different from most other MMOs. No NPCs to kill? have you read the v:tm or v:tr books? there are plenty of choices, not only inter clan fighting but other monsters of the night in the setting such as mummies, wraiths and other undead. Not to mention the vamp vs werewolf vs mages backstory. And magic items exist but are quite rare. IMO makes them much more valuable. Whats so special if you got a item that 1/2 the other server popular has? If they keep with that tradition then it will make anything you get truly valuable rather then 'oh.. I got 4 of those too'. You do know we trade in paper money now a days right? As they do in the vampire setting? You you have bills rather then gold coins... *shrug* If you are really interested on learning about a very valid possibility of turning the setting into a interesting MMO rather then just post constant negative drivel (in which case we get it you don't like the idea, move along) read this: http://www.wodonlinenews.net/Forums/tabid/...ic/Default.aspx
  18. BioWare's last four games were Sonic: TDB, Mass Effect, Jade Empire, and Knights of the Old Republic. The last high fantasy game they released was NWN in 2002 (plus two expansions in 2003). And why would I be 'burned' out of the high fantasy setting? It
  19. This is a bit like saying that GRRM is a thinly veiled Tolkien clone. Yes, they have dwarves, elves, dragons, and magic. Other than that, the game system and setting don't strike me as being anything like DnD. I don't know about you but are you not burned of the high fantasy setting yet? Seems bioware just keeps going back to the same well. Yes in the BG era they were creative, now its beating a dead horse IMO. They even said its the spiritual successor to BG. At least obsidian is taking some risks with aliens and AP. Trying to mix it up rather then take the safe route like bioware. Granted I am not blaming bio they are sticking with what they know, high fantasy, and apparently not in the mood or have interests to take risks. Odds are I am going to pass on aliens (franchise never did much for me) but AP has piqued my interest so we'll see once more info comes out. But I rather stick with a company that has some creativity left in the tank and willing to go in new directions then repaint the same old same old and play it safe with ideas, that at least I, am tired of.
  20. Personally I think dragon age is going to be bland. A rehash with a fresh coat of paint of things we have already seen 20 times already. But I think many people are going to blinded by the fact its by bioware so by default HAS to be the bestest eva!!!!!11 *shrug* I personally stopped following it quite some time ago. Them trying to make a thinly veiled D&D clone IMO. Alpha Protocol OTOH, I get the vibe its going to be deus ex-ish and if so I am certainly going to check it out.

  22. I'm also a fan. It's surprisingly entertaining to get soundly defeated and end up fleeing for your life. I'm playing Re-install Windows And Hope It's Not So Crash-Happy This Time. My suggestion remove all startup apps except for virus protection (modern apps love to add start up applets which in the end are pointless and cause issues. If you see more then 6 icons near your time there's a issue) and do NOT use Symantic suites, and use the latest drivers. Hope that helps.
  23. From my talks with various devs (and their talks with other devs) it seems the view of the CRPG dev community in general is the 100+ hr CRPG like BG1 and Fallout is dead. With that said Fallout3 was a great CRPG big picture wise and somewhat debunked that comment. However that is a exception more then the rule IMO. I think less sandbox more linear stories are the future. For the next 4-5 yrs will be slim pickings then some upstart dev is going to go to hells with this I'll show them, and put up a epic BG-like CRPG (not a 100 hrs or very sandbox like but solid none the less) as they will see a void to fill. Just as Bioware did with BG. We'll have several yrs of other devs jumping on the bandwagon be a time of some good CRPGs, then ideas will run stale and, once again, the market will implode, rinse and repeat... Its a cycle, and we currently are in the downward spin, give it a few years like I said the market will jump start again.
  24. LOL I don't know what the distaste of MMORPGs is here. While I am quite picky of the ones I tried, those few that I did turned out to be a enjoyable experience as a whole and at the very least had some memorable RP excursions with fellow RP enthusiasts. That aside since this is being developed by white wolf themselves I expect all else aside it will be as true to the setting as possible when converting from one medium to another (though they have strongly implied expect changes from the PnP to online version rules wise which shouldn't be a huge shock). While possible I feel it improbable they will FUBAR this up.
  25. Indeed, news story here: http://www.wodonlinenews.net/Home/tabid/36...om-Iceland.aspx If all else fails they will prob move to Atlanta where WW is (or whatever the city is down south were WW is now based). Since they are now a merged company would make sense to me, but I don't know the inner workings of the company so I could be talking out of my arse Either way from my understanding WW is doing all the design docs/work for the MMORPG and CCP doing the actually coding since that is forte of each. I am sure some cross over will happen as ideas get tossed between them but generally that makes the most sense to me.
