  1. Thank you The way I look at it, like CRPGS back in the 80s and early 90s, or RTS's today there were/are a ton of them but only a few were worth any time. Same with MMOs indeed there are many however how many good ones are there worth more then the first free month? Very few IMO. With the owners of the license directly involved of the development (White Wolf) I have a pretty good feeling the end product with be enjoyable. But time will tell of course. But at least its not some 3rd party who never played the PnP game trying to make a MMO out of it so that's a positive in my mind and a reassuring first step.

  3. If I reall, the 2nd DLC (or perhaps it is the 1st) is going to change that and make it so you can continue to play after the main quest like fo 1/2. Going to up the max lvl as well.
  4. QFT I bow in respect...
  5. Thanks you so much! However the creator of the skin I am using finally did reply, she not only fixed the .css file but also cleaned up my images to blend into the skin better. So alls good. I tested the site out in IE7 (I don't have 6 anymore) and its fixed as least on that version. Thanks again none the less!
  6. Well after reading much of the 'heated' debate on the steam and other gta forums I found a work around. Since its clearly a memory leak from the symptoms being detailed by myself and others I found and downloaded a little 60K app called cache cleaner. It displays the total system cache and the current amount being used with a button to clear said cache. After about 30-45 mins of playing when the textures stop rendering and the city becomes mostly invisable I alt-tab, hit the 'clear cache' button, then restore the game. After 6-8 secs of the rendering engine re-init all the textures and enviroment restores itself for another half hr or so. Rinse and repeat when the city starts to stop rendering. At least the game is playable without having to restart it every 30 mins. On a side note, according to cache cleaner, seems everytime the cache used exceeds the system avail is when the rendering issue pops up. Again clearly a very bad memory leak.
  7. Bottom line I am not alone in my opinion doom1 and the like are pseudo-3D. Google it. But its OT and really not worth getting into a huff over, lets agree to disagree and move forward.

  9. Should have, could have, would have... water under the bridge at this point. Yes I SHOULD HAVE however with my previous success with rockstar ports I didn't really feel the need. Clearly that was an error on my part. None the less that does not excuse the poor condition of the port. Either way lesson learned.
  10. Need help with correcting slight issue with the skin on my site, only in IE does the left image display above the rest of the page. non-IE browsers render the page fine. See the site in my sig, if you need the .css file I'll post here. Any help appreciated, thanks!
  11. It does if you define a game as 'true 3D' as I did. No fully 3D world uses sprites rather then 3D models. While the world in of itself could pass for 3D nothing else did and thus does not make a 'true 3D' game. The illusion that everything is 3D <> make it so.
  12. This is not a hardware issue. The textures not rendering is apparently a memory leak issue many other folks are reporting. While there are some work around to prevent the leak from crippling your game every 30 mins (some have reported these 'fixes' can get your game to run ~2 hrs strait before you need to restart) its not ideal to have to run a memcleaner or play with the FX settings to flush the texture cache every half hr. For the record... AMD X2 5200+ 2gig dual channel RAM 8800GT 512meg video XP 64bit latest drivers
  13. What a simplistic view of the topic you have, your insight is amazing. All games have bugs, platform is moot. However let me educate you and let you know there are varying degrees. I was able to play nwn2, fallout3 and gta vice city, san andreas out of the box without issues. Were there bug? yes, but at least the games were playable, this however the game isn't even that, and this my fustration with the issue.
  14. I picked up GTA4 this weekend, figured been out long enought for at least 1 patch, should be atleast playable. Oh contraire.. the rendering engine after 30-45 mins stops rendering about 1/2 the city. While 'physically' the objects are still there (you can drive into invisiable walls for example) you can't see them. And this is after the 38meg patch. This makes the game more or less unplayable until you restart the game. To say I am disappinted at rockstar would be a understatement. Clearly this was a rushed hack job. From some searching I found out I am certainly not the only PC user having these issues. I will re-reconsider buying from them again.
  15. Never LARPGed in my life actually. However would like to try it just for kicks sometime.
  16. I don't understand what you're saying here? Arena was 3D, Daggerfall was 3D, the two spin-offs from the Elder Scrolls universe (Redguard and.. uh.. forgot the other one) were also 3D. Arena was so buggy I never even made it out of the first town (after the starting dungeon). Daggerfall was equally buggy and it took a LOT of tries before I finally got somewhere in its story (although I never remember actually finishing it). Morrowind was an absolute success compared to Daggerfall! Oblivion was as bug-free as I ever hope a game to be. Fallout 3 is a bit buggier than Oblivion (for me) but it's still a damn impressive game. If you really want to get technical they were 2.5D, not true 3D like fo3 or unreal. They have the illusion of 3D like doom1 did, but were simply just sprites.
  17. Missing out on a great CRPG!
  18. Recent interview I read they said they plan on AI upgrades.
  19. > Better to be abused than ignored, eh? heh heh heh..Not sure 'abused' is that path I prefer.. acknowledged I exist would be nice however. If I did something to offend him a least a chance to appologize, clarify whatever I did/said would be appreciated. I have always spoken high of him, obsid and the devs I befriended there so not sure what I ever did unless he takes my gripes with some of the bioware folks to heart.. Anyways.. moving on.. > Anyhow, Gromnir is being extremely confrontational, sure. ...But I understand his argument perfectly. It's important to establish the priorities of the game design. Namely, that CRPGs rely exclusively or almost exclusively on the character rather than the player skill. I agree with this idea in principle. For someone who adheres to this view, even one small word like "legit" can mean quite a lot when it seems to favor player rather than character ability. The idea behind the word is more important than the literal meaning of the word itself. While I understand what you and grom is saying, it does seem a small thing (in the big picture of crpg design) to make such a fuss/argument over, but that may just be me. I agree priorities in game deisgn is is critical. However the aspect of this specific point fo said deisgn does not seem as importent as being made out to be, but again perhaps thats just me. Last game I designed/wrote from start/finish was a multi-player D&D type text BBS door game. So I certainly don't have the expertise of JE of more modern game design so what do I know.. heh > However, I will say that every game, even tabletop RPGs, rely on player ability. Your character might have an intelligence of 5 but you will devise complex plans that require a much higher intelligence to form and implement. Your characater has a charisma of 3 but you give a long speech to the other party members regarding an upcoming battle and convince them to follow your advice. In CRPGs, your character might have a low dexterity, but you manage to contrive a way to shoot an enemy and quickly hop onto some rocks in order to shoot the mirelurk at will. All of these are part and parcel of games where there is an unavoidable overlap between player and character abilities. I agree. In PnP or CRPG gaming metagaming creeps in to some degree. Even the best RPers catch themselves from time to time at least, the medium is moot. > Where Gromnir is entirely right is that player abilities are never more legit than character abilities in a CRPG. I don't think J.E. meant it that way, but that's something only he can say. The way I took it is that rather than legitimate, he meant that the only way to use the scope is outside of vats. It's not that a scoped shot is more legitimate outside of vats. It's that, if I'm not mistaken, it's impossible to use your scope in vats. So, if you use a scoped shot, and wait for the target to stop and remain stationary long enough, you'll have a higher crit chance than if you use VATS. Of course, I'm always trying to reconcile disparate views, so who knows? I agree with your interputaion. But as you said only JE nows for sure. Well said BTW!
  20. No. After being more or less dissapointed with Age of Conan and WAR, I'm not looking forward to any MMO for quite a while now. Not even SWTOR, despite considering myself a Bio fanboy. What server did you play in AoC? I was on wiccana I can't remember the name anymore. I played till lvl 25 and then got bored. I was on the rp pve server for north america. My main pc made it till low 60s before I let me account expire. It was fun, and don't regret it and had some great rp encounters in the serpents inn, but the lack of content started to wear on me and lack of solo dungeons/quests as well. It has potential as a mmo but went public 3-4 months too early IMO.

  22. In fairness Grom while I only read last few pages I am not even sure what you are arguing about expect it seems to me just to start a argument. *shug* Certainly thats your choice but seems like splitting hairs then anything of real substance. I never understood what your chip on your shoulder has been to JE. You seem to go out of your way to attack a guy over the yrs whos one of, IMO, the best minds for RPGs in modern times. But at least JE speaks to you, hes never liked me from the start for some reason even when I was a proponet of obsid since nwn2 was announced and ran nwn2news and worked close with other obsid devs. Be thankful he argues with you rather then talk to a supporter of his company. hehe
  23. Ill informed and off base opinions aside, is anyone here looking forward to the WoD mmorpg?
  24. The game as in the big picture, macro level, you are probably correct. However in a micro level that is not accurate. I have seen within the rp communtiy of a MMORPG how your RPing effect the game on such a level. Such as rivalries, guild feuds, aliances and rp romances. So yes it does effect the game as the rp enviroment and storylines. When your PC is jumped because of some tavern brawl your were in or someone rushing to your aid to return a favor, that certainly can change the game on a micro level for you.
