Defender 2.0 beta nerf
Valorian replied to limaxophobiacq's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hello, shields calling. They're the highest source of deflection. Fine/exceptional/superb could, for example, reduce the accuracy penalty instead of further increasing deflection to ridiculous levels. Moreover it's too easy to amass DR early on, which also contributes to the impenetrability of dedicated tanks. If their goal is to bring (defense oriented) classes into line when it comes to tanking power, it's odd that they didn't strike paladins with the nerf-stick as well. -
Enhancements for the future
Valorian replied to archangel979's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Monsters being resistant to specific afflictions (like priest prayers against X), depending on creature type, would be an excellent incentive for the player to experiment with different spells and abilities. I support damage immunities when logic dictates so, but resistance to effects is more important because its impact on strategy and tactics would be greater than don't burn elemental fire. -
[BUG 1.0.6.0586] Min Dmg to higher level oozes
Valorian replied to kmbogd's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
Could it be that if you start a new game in 1.06 the slime/ooze bug is not present? It seems like celliott never encountered the bug himself throughout several patches. Perhaps the same is true for the 'speed' weapon property? Could it be!? -
There's nothing random about it. There are 3 prerequisites. It's as "random" as the D&D penalty to AB if you wield a medium weapon in your off-hand. Also, if you want to discuss realism instead; sure! It's easier to be accurate when your brain doesn't have to account for the differences between the weapon in your right hand and the weapon in your left hand; size, length, weight, optimal trajectory. It's easier when it's mirrored. Except it's not. The only time this'd be remotely true would be if you're literally ambidextrous, which is a pretty rare trait. Also, this would in no way account for the fact that there is no reason two swords or two clubs would be equal in how they handle in terms of size, weight, distribution of mass, and shape. This makes no sense. Not conceptually, not realistically, not mechanically. It's not brilliant, it's stupid. But hon, you surely noticed that in this game a dagger looks more like *gasp* another dagger than.. a club or rapier? It is established that in Eora both hands are equally accurate (source: dual wielding). People are ambidextrous by default... not that I particularly like it. I am fascinated that you still have energy for whining and having fits, even over something that's not actually in the game.

That's beyond the realm of possibility for PoE. No need to worry yourself about it. -

For those who still don't understand the issue that's being discussed here, I'll simplify it: Problem: Not a problem: Also, AI doesn't distinguish fleeing and luring. -

[1.05] St. Garam's Spark
Valorian replied to Insolentius's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Is this bug still not fixed in 1.06? No speed from the speed enchantment? -

I really dislike this because it goes against the essence of the class (you need to endure through x seconds of combat to build up something powerful). That's why running to a choke point with a chanter feels like cheating. Chanting should be active only when an enemy is in range of the chant and when the chanter is not moving.

No. For the exact same reasons as before. Not only will anyone that dual-wields have that Talent anyway (making it a false restriction), but all it'd really do is to restrict the effective dual-wield combinations further, and it'd still be a boost dual-wielding absolutely doesn't need. Is it a boost or a restriction? Make up your mind. It's still very likely that the player will have two different weapons (for a good portion of the game) that combined would be the most powerful dual wielding option despite losing the 5 accuracy bonus. And please let's not delve into where to find what and "THE MOST EFFECTIVE COMBO EVER!"; let people who'd like to avoid spoilers find that for themselves. And so what if it restricts you a bit? It restricts you no more than weapon focus does. I don't negotiate with psychopaths. Start begging for mercy NOW.

How many times have you had to choose between practicality and looks? Many times. Paired weapons look so much better! Because symmetry. Two daggers, two rapiers, two swords.. you name it. But it's often not mechanically practical without specific talents. And even then it's subpar when you find certain weapons. If you want to be a dual wielding adventurer who adventures with style, this small modification to the talent is absolutely necessary. +5 to accuracy if you wield the same weapon type in both hands and have the TWS talent. Thx, bye.

What's crucial for a masochistic optional mode is irrelevant. Yes, some people would cry that JES ruined their fun (again), but **** them. -

The problem, as explained before, is that at a certain point the script instructs the creature or everyone but one creature: "Now go back". So after you kill the only monster that chased you all the way, your per encounter abilities, talents and endurance points are restored. For this reason they should chase as a group to the end of the universe, and shouldn't desert the PC and his companions ever. -

This nonsense again. Nobody cares what you do in your single-player game, you can crash the game intentionally every 5 minutes as far as I'm concerned, but you need to understand that awful "AI" scripts don't affect ONLY you. If I decide to lure a group of enemies to a choke point, I don't want that group of enemies to act with less cunning than a group of amoebae. Meaning, I don't want them to split, leave monster buddies behind, retreat to a safe space and cower etc. And this can happen if the choke point is far enough. Sometimes the only choke point is far enough. I don't want to choose between not using the advantage of a choke point (especially if I'm soloing) and triggering an awful AI script. To each his own, but I find it amusing that someone sees fun in exploiting an awful and basic script that dictates how enemies will behave once they're far enough from their original location. It also goes without saying that enemy scripts shouldn't be balanced around marginal modes (so what if there aren't enough exploits to complete triple crown solo). -
Sure thing, the more symmetrical the ruleset, the better. But let's not overdo it here, innate abilities should clearly be an exception to the rule. Also, story trumphs mechanics. So whenever a story boss or event implies bypassing of game rules, that is fine to me. For example, Thaos summoning those giant statues. But of course, monsters' innate abilities are an exception, as is Thaos and his amazing minions.
