i think the only case in which buying higher-end stuff pays of is with monitors since they seem to go down in price rather slowly, i.e., you won't buy a $700 monitor and find it selling for $500 3 months later. at least, that has been my experience. of course, i hold on to monitors longer than any other piece, too. taks

well, it is sort of a light-hearted rant thread... eddy murphy did it best: ghost: "get out!" eddie: "too bad we can't stay" taks

except in horror flicks. they're always too stupid to live except jamie lee curtis, and i think she lived in spite of being stupid running around screaming like a moron. the men in horror flicks are stupid, too, for that matter, so i guess horror flicks are a wash and not material to this discussion. taks

i did that earlier this year as well. at least, i pointed out inconsistencies between what my boss said when i was hired, what he said last year at "raise time," and what he said this year at "raise time" (which was in january). it worked out OK. that was the first time i ever practiced the tough guy routine with an employer. taks

all the law and order series draw from the pool of NY actors. if you've been watching all three shows as long as i have, from the beginning essentially, you'll notice several characters that appear in different roles regularly, across all three shows. they also have some recurring character roles played by specific actors, and at least one of the former prosecutor chicks comes back as a defense attorney on occasion. taks

keep in mind, alanschu, there is a very large biological difference between women and men in regards to one specific area: hormones. women and men have completely different body chemistry, which does effect both their brain and body functions. taks

somehow my health points went down to 54 from 65... not sure i understand why that is. taks

in professions such as engineering, there simply aren't that many women in the field (i'd estimate under 10%, but i haven't worked for a large company in a while). since they are only recently beginning to gain ground, that means most women in the engineering fields haven't been in long enough to obtain senior level positions, and their contribution is dominated by younger, or entry level positions. this will without a doubt lower the average pay for women, and i'd suspect the case is similar in many historically male-dominated fields. without accounting for the demographics for each country on that list, it is impossible to even begin assessing where/why the true discrepancies exist. also, in general, women did not begin to enter the workforce at large until well into the 70s, and arguably the mid to late 80s, so there aren't that many 30-year professionals bringing up the average anyway (i don't know any 30-year engineers that are female - most are my time frame or later). interestingly, where i went to school for my undergrad years (1986-1990), the incoming freshmen were nearly split between men and women. by graduation, it was almost 4:1 men. taks

Conservapedia is literally the worst thing on the internet.

maybe because not many intelligent people, conservative or otherwise, actually go there? or maybe because nobody cares what one idiot thinks? open your mind, not everything is as black and white as you would like it to be. taks edit: reading those "choice selections," some of them look rather sarcastic in the first place. they needed an "ism," right... -
my wife does all the man stuff, or we pay to have it done. i decided loooong ago that if i could ever afford to pay for things, i would. i am a snob in that respect. taks

yeah. and they better make sure to keep 'em available and keep up with that kitchen work if they want any respect from me. wait, dammit... i'm the one that does the dishes in my house. argh. of course, that's because my wife won't trust me with anything else but cooking and cleaning the kitchen. that doesn't sound good, either. i'm suffering man point losses. she gets the laundry and everything else for that matter. phew, i won, and have retained a few man points. taks PS: how on earth did this turn into another woman bashing thread? didn't we already have one of those recently?

no, it is a democratically elected leadership, not a democracy. every state in the US has a republic leadership. some allow the tyranny of democratic decision making, however. none of this matters to the point: nothing any of us has said is "undemocratic." you simply don't understand what a tyranny is, and thus are incapable of offering an intelligent discourse on the whole complaint offered up by JE. taks

i gave myself a pupil from home. i whipped her butt. it didn't give my hammer-wielding brute of death any more victories, however. taks

sad victory, i think. wouldn't you say? i tend to vote no on just about everything, btw. fortunately, in CO, there are no either/or propositions allowed. if an amendment is proposed, it either passes and gets implemented, or nothing changes. it's never "do you want us to buy the green car, or the red car." i don't know, however, how many people need to turn out for a measure to pass. i would have thought in CA enough people would have turned out to vote something down, but i guess even progressives are lazy voters sometimes. taks

do you even understand why the US is a republic with democratically elected leaders, not a democracy? this statement is an absolute crock. i honestly thought you were smarter than this. ^alanschu: it doesn't even take that many, just a majority of those that actually turn out to vote. taks
-
yes, it is. i don't agree that most state constitutions are easy to change. obviously CA's is, CO's, OTOH, is not nearly as easy. i don't know about others, but i've never heard the complaint as much as i do regarding CA's. taks
-
wow, you really don't understand this. just look up the first definition of tyranny dictionary.com: arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority. it doesn't require a single person for a tyranny to exist, just an unrestrained exercise of power, i.e., the majority exerting their power over the minority. mob rule is tyranny, by definition. given you don't even understand the basic premise of your statements, nothing else you said is worth commenting on. taks

it does in the sense that the CA constitution is the reason, oddly enough, that gay marriage is banned there, but not in iowa. they made it easy for the majority to run roughshod over everyone. the whole concept of state sanctioned marriage has nothing to do with "rights," anyway. marriage is a privilege that the state has chosen to regulate in some fashion. if it were a true right, being married would confer no special treatment over any other people, married or otherwise, because everyone has the same rights. we know, of course, that this is not how "rights" are treated by the government, nor the world at large. taks
