  5. he was a B/C student... and it was not bought. i'd bet you'd have a hard time even passing hades, let alone getting accepted... taks
  6. this is one of my favorites... usually made by a liberal that doesn't know better... here goes: GWB, contrary to popular belief, did in fact score OVER 1200 on the SAT tests. this, btw, was back before they "adjusted" the scores (early 80's) so they no longer correspond to IQ. given his numbers, he's probably in the 130 or so IQ range. hardly an idiot. more like the 95-97th precentile. probably smarter than most of the idiots that post the above comments, actually. granted, he's no clinton (rhodes scholar), but not many are... this information isn't very hard to find out. five minutes searching on the web... that's all. therefore, when someone says bush is "not that bright" it must mean a.) the poster isn't bright enough to know or b.) the poster is simply regurgitating political RHETORIC without any basis in fact. c'mon people. failing to objectively analyze anything in life is like telling the sheepherder you don't mind going baaaaa as long as you're happy. lambchops is the only result. taks
  7. ??? from visceris??? taks
  8. better watch out FU, i've heard howling1 is quite proud of his wet noodle beatings and he dangles the thing around in public just to prove it! oh, hehe... taks
  9. objectivism in a literal sense tends to be associated too closely with greed for the average user to tolerate. it relies on the notion that we're all self absorbed and any act we perform is to benefit our own needs, i.e. random acts of kindness make people feel good about themselves, the very reason they do them in the first place. while this may have some truth in a base sense, it's a hard idea to swallow and certainly isn't designed to win over followers. taks
  10. *SOUND OF BRAKING CAR* Some -- I repeat, some -- Libertarians are objectivists. Objectivism is not libertarianism. I consider myself to be a Libertarian. I also consider Ayn Rand to have been a horrid, foolish gorgon of a human being. Proceed. *SOUND OF CAR SPEEDING AWAY* Coupla Ayn Rand quotes Another view... actually, you're both right. libertarianism was borne out of objectivism, but there's a disagreement within the movement (uh, if it's big enough to be called that) as to whether "libertarianism" is good or bad. dunno myself, as i started touting obejectivist ideas long before i had ever heard of ayn rand... i.e. in keeping with her spirit, i don't follow ANYBODY's movement... taks
  11. you've NEVER heard of ayn rand? wowsers. i thought everybody had. she's the founder of the "objectivism" philosophy. her books are interesting but hard to read. they delve deeply into human motivation, though it takes a bit of stomach to put up with some of it. i would certainly call myself an objectivist though not nearly to the extreme she espouses in her writings. lots of stuff on capitalism came from her, too. taks
  12. math is cool... you apparently don't understand math. at the current rate, if we stay 10 years, it would be about 6000-7000 dead, not 50,000 as in vietnam. also, in vietnam, we were at war nearly the whole time, not once did we ever completely occupy and control the country... in iraq, we control the entire country but idiots from OUTSIDE iraq, coincidentally, are causing trouble.... sure saddam hard-liners are part of the problem, but in the end, none of these people care about iraqi prisoner abuse, or freedom for their country, or anything else. all they care about is maintaining a state of unrest so they can garner the support of the sheep the get in line to support their twisted cause. they want power... oppressive regimes maintain their control by oppression, and our presence disrupts that possibility, since no truly free iraqi citizen is willing to back to what it was like before. this applies to ALL of the middle east, btw. taks
  13. uh, nearly 50,000 dead in vietnam... we were fighting in a jungle and were unprepared for it... it lasted nearly 10 years... NOBODY in the US liked it (at least, an overwhelming majority were against it)... we were trying to prevent the spread of communism (supposedly)... lemme see... 600 US dead (a little over 700 total, right?)... we're fighting in cities... it has been ONE year... over 70% STILL support our presence there (including Kerry, depending on which day you ask him)... we've already stopped saddam (really...)... yeah, good comparison there. um, morgoth, maybe, just maybe, you could come up with an original line that's not so ideologically straight outta the hard left liberal camp... maybe, just maybe, somebody will take you seriously. comparisons to vietnam make it sound like you read a cool news report from the LA Times and immediately hopped on the bandwagon. not very original, not really very popular, and not really very true these ideas... taks
  14. hehe... money ain't going to help that pit. taks
  15. perhaps if iraqi insurgents didn't have a habit of hiding among civilian areas (thereby using civilians as shields) there wouldn't be such an issue. also, the fact that the civilians allowed the rebels to set up camp in their town implies complicity. if these civiliancs really are "innconent," then maybe they should be handing over the rebels? taks
  16. does this mean the next state in the list is the next project and therefore, KotOR 3? taks
  17. potatoes are certainly high on my list of starchy foods to eat. prolly followed by sweet potatoes, rice, ... oh my. face it, i just LOVE starch. smashed mashed fried julienned au gratin'd scalloped boiled baked you name it... my wife, unfortunately, needs to stay away from starch as it does bad things to blood sugar... taks
  18. rummy hasn't performed nearly as well as he did a year ago. two different types of operations (peace keeping, conquering) require two different mindsets/methods of operation. a similar analogy would be starting your own company. the skillset required to get it off the ground is usually quite a bit different than what is required to keep in running once things have settled in. my boss lost his job a year ago because of this fact. taks
  19. hmm. while we're parsing the press release for every last bit of info, i might as well point out a typo: "galaxies" is plural. the possessive form of "galaxy" is "galaxy's" unless, of course, there's more than galaxy whose fate hangs in the balance. which somehow i doubt. that would then require the apostrophe AFTER the s... galaxies' taks
  20. and i'm accused of "foxeria" when i say only a small percentage of the country is actually rebelling against our presence. i agree they probably all want us to let them take over the reigns (a large majority at least), but they certainly appreciate the fact they no longer need fear saddam... taks
