  1. so, you'd get skill points for completing objectives in DX? and you'd get none for killing enemies, right? one thing that bothers me in HR is that you get 50 xp for silently taking down an enemy (non-lethal) compared to 10 xp for gunning him down. so a stealth approach is a lot more rewarding, which kind of defeats the whole concept of "play through it the way you like". getting bonuses for not having been spotted during a mission in form of side quests or branching paths is one thing, but directly rewarding the player with more points to spend on augmentations feels out of place
  2. my friends thought System Shock 2 was a lot better. nobody liked DX, I'm quite surprised it's getting so much praise today
  3. he said it was a very simplistic game with no meaningful C&C whatsoever, but with an elaborate skill/aug system (that got dumped in the sequel). after seeing the levels and the enemies I am convinced, it's trash. I'm not pretending my opinion is the only right one, of course. Like I said, Operation Flashpoint was the paragon of FPS games for me. what I can't comment on is this "multiple paths approach", I don't know what's that all about. a lot of shooters at the time had levels designed with detours and shortcuts, if that's what you mean
  4. I just keep replaying Dark Omen from time to time :rolleyes"
  5. browsed through the whole thread, should've done it earlier... anyway, everything Slowtrain says about the first Deus Ex and C&C in video games is spot on. I'm so glad I never played DX, so I don't have this "oh my god, I hope Human Revolution plays like DX" fixation. judging by a very thorough let's play on YouTube, DX was a pile of crap with a cherry on top of it (being the skill system)
  6. these ruined the game completely for me
  7. only when the trolls themselves are of epic levels, watching those boring attempts at being sarcastic and smart break on impact with this forum's juggernauts isn't fun at all
  8. how about we make a Dungeon Siege 3 discussion thread here, in C&C, when the game comes out, for the cool kids? I want to read everyone's thoughts on the full game without having to read dumb trolls' attempts at insulting the game and its developers
  9. ooh, this is going to be interesting edit: he should've picked the archer lady
  10. ho... kay let's backtrack a bit New Vegas approaches quest design and overall concept in a vein similar to the original Fallout games, and not Fallout 3. Fallout 3 was a linear game at its core, it was a sandbox game, yeah, but the main quest was very weak, most sidequests completely generic, and the biggest area - the city of Washington - was a terrible disappointment. not to mention the whole eastern branch of the Brotherhood of Steel... again, the engine doesn't make a game what it is, it's just a tool. if you think Fallout 3 is just as good or better than New Vegas, then we have nothing more to talk about, since our views are obviously very different
  11. oooh, that's so sweet, there's an acronym for it
  12. what's a "BFF"? in other news, Wizardry Online among noticeable features global PvP and permadeath
  13. I liked the book
  14. I just hope they don't touch google
  15. don't get me wrong, Deus Ex was a very ambitious game, but I had hated shooters at the time, and for an RPG game it's too lite for my taste. Operation Flashpoint was the game that got me into shooters eventually
  16. actually I remember instances where the publishers would leak their games themselves to build up hype or w/e (was it HL2 or Crysis... can't remember exactly)
  17. you can skip the boring parts I've been watching a let's play of the original Deus Ex, because I never liked the game, but now it seems like a good idea to get the feel of it without actually having to torture myself.
  18. you mean Eidos forums? this could be interesting
  19. never intended to post links
  20. it's like saying that there aren't a lot of differences between games on the UE3
  21. meh, I watched it on youtube, I don't feel like a "pirate" because of that
  22. from a developer's/publisher's perspective, MMOs are perfect, because they make you, the gamer, spend all your time trying to get that rarest drop. everything in subscription based games is designed as a time sink. Diablo is no different, though it's not an MMO or a subscription based game at all. in essence Diablo is about farming dungeons and getting to the highest level. now what I personally don't understand is why free to play MMOs use the same design, when they should be mimicking TF2
