You're wrong. Extensive Modding for PoE requires Unity 4.6, which costs a lot of money. I think this is the main reason why we won't see many big mods like the Baldur's Gate series had. Unity 5 is free, but Obsidian already stated that it would be too much work to port the game to Unity 5. IIRC they even stated that potential sequels would use Unity 4.6. So yeah, not too optimistic about that really. Source? It was my understanding that, while certainly not on the table right now, they would consider porting it to Unity 5 later, possibly in the expansion(s). And I haven't even heard about the potential sequels still using Unity 4.6, that'd be daft.

So again, find me one that is doing that on a serious level, not just "Eh, I wish it was D&D, but whatever". you are being silly. the ie games used d&d mechanics. the insta-kill and hard-counter attributes o' the ie mechanics are directly the result o' the ie game's adoption of d&d. ... being obtuse just to entertain us is sweet and all, but unnecessary. HA! Good Fun! ps our gibberish is intentional. so what is your excuse? And there you go again. Deflect, Evade, and when possible, try to contribute as little as possible. When at all possible, when defenceless, ridicule. It's pathetic. There's a huge difference between the Infinity Engine games and D&D. The IE games used the D&D ruleset, but most arguments involving - very warranted - comparisons to the Infinite Engine games has absolutely nothing to do with D&D. And you know this, because despite your intellectual disinclination, you aren't completely devoid of thought. Which just makes it all the more pathetic that you choose to create these strawmen, as if you have something relevant to add. You're a waste of space and time. Now, again, find me one that has been arguing for more D&D on a serious level. What's that? You can't? Oh, what a surprise! Bring out the streamers and the bubbly, oh, no, wait, it's just another day at the Obsidian Fora with Gromnir, nevermind. -
No - PoE has some design flaws IMHO, but at the end of the day Obsidian has managed to create a game that many fans really like. For example: It is the most liked game on the RPGWatch Steam curation list. I made a CRPG element-checklist for PoE with the CRPG Analyzer as well. I personally hope PoE2 will be an enhancement to PoE1 like BG2 was to BG1. And I really hope that PoE2 will feature turn-based combat, more world interactivity, more major C&C and NPC-schedules. ... "Low-Fantasy"?

The one you are quoting is spot on. And it's obvious you know as much about true roleplaying as Isis knows about mercy and peace. Bioware games have crap roleplaying options. PERIOD. Volourn is literally worse than Hitler. It's funny, because while I agree, Calisca's portrait is the only one in-game that I actually hate. It looks like placeholder art, and doesn't fit the overall art style.

Its actually easier on hard, because there are fewer summons, and they don't automatically block the path to Maerwald. The big problem is is getting caught on the scenery and not realizing the bedroll and crap on the floor isn't valid to walk over. If you stay bunched up, it can be easy to be burned down. There is so much **** like this in PoE and it's incredibly frustrating. You never know where you can walk and where you can't, and I constantly find myself screaming internally "I CAN SEE THAT I FIT THERE! I CAN LITERALLY MEASURE THE SIZE OF YOUR FAT ASS AND I CAN *SEE* THAT YOU FIT THERE STOP RUNNING AROUND THE ****ING ROOM!". The amount of battles I've lost due to bad pathing and world environment collision probably accounts for over 90% of the fights I've lost, and I'm not even joking.

Lul. In all seriousness "Raider" is typically used to describe pirates, vikings, or other people who rush in, kill everything, and loot lots of time by way of a boat. There is a reason the NFL team the "Raiders" logo is a pirate wearing a football helmet. A highwayman on the other hand is just a bandit who ambushes people on the road, they don't tend to rape, pillage, work in large groups, or go out looking for people. They just hide on the road and wait for easy targets to walk by. They aren't similar at all . I know, which is why "Raider" in this case just seems to mean violent criminal thug, or something to that effect, I mean, I can see how you can raid caravans and so on, too. The White that Wends is the equivalent of Antartica, there is no ruling class. Hell there is probably no organized society at all other than some pale elves who likely migrate constantly. I dunno. I get a "mythic continent" kind of vibe from The White That Wends, along with the obvious "It's just bloody Antarctica"-thing. I do agree that "Aristocrat" feels all kinds of wrong, though. Like Dadalama said, I'm sure there's a ruling class, and I'd go a step further and say that it might even be well organized, and layers upon layers and all that jazz.. but it doesn't feel... aristocratic. Even the Deadfire Archepilago (...dammit, I want to call it Deadfyre) can say that it has pirate princes or something, but Aristocrat should probably be restricted from both The White That Wends as well as The Living Lands.

Also, if I remember right, the whole "miss-graze-hit-crit + DR" system was advertised as a solution for preventing the "miss fests" that allegedly plagued the IE games. Yet in those games I have never experienced such hopeless stalemates as in situations in PoE when tank-Eder and random-enemy-boss were the only ones left standing. Miss after miss after miss, with an occasional graze for single-digit damage. Could sometimes have probably gone on for fifteen minutes if I hadn't been impatient and reloaded. This. God. Damn. This. The discrepancy between survivability and an ability to hit the broad side of a barn is crazy. I've had huge fights where the only survivor is Edér, and they can stand and swing at eachother for upwards 5 minutes without meaningfully hurt eachother (but then Edér eventually loses out, because he, well, he's a lover, not a fighter; and also, he sucks at damage-dealing). Anyone that's talking about miss-fests in the IE games have no goddamn idea what they're talking about. -

You are under-stating the absurdity and hilarious irony of this. There are 2 major gameplay philosophies that Josh Sawyer voiced and made crystal clear to everyone before developing PoE's combat systems: 1) Save or else - will not be in the game because it is a dreadfully Non-fun, non-tactical, binary gameplay hangover from the IE games and should die by fire. 2) Hard counters and pre-buffs - will not be in the game because they are apocalyptic designs that promote metagaming, instead of reaction based tactical gameplay Now Fast forward to the finished product of PoE. What did we end up getting? Yeah, Rule #1.... violated right off the bat. We have Whole races of monsters spamming the exact same Save-or else effects from BG1 against your party. But unlike BG1, we're not given any tools to tactically counter such attacks because they decided to hold fast to rule #2....for no reason. Because they ended up giving us spells that still require metagaming in order to be even marginally useful against these Save Or else attacks. (the entire line of "Prayer against ____" spells that priests get. They all have two effects: 1. to increase your saves against the Save or else" effects, and, 2. to reduce the duration of those afflictions if you fail your saves. But how are you going to benefit from the save bonus of those effects without metagaming and casting that spell before you get hit by the effect? Answer: You don't. Because you can't. (no pre-buffing). So basically the only legit function of those spells is to reduce the duration of the "Save-or-Else" effects after they've already afflicted your party. This, of course, assumes you got lucky and it wasn't your priest who got nailed with those effects, because if he has, then you can't cast that spell. Not until the effect wears off, at least... But by then, casting it will be pointless since the fight will either be over, or the enemy will have already exhausted its per encounter instances of those Save or Else attacks. Absurd. The joke's on you!; opponents in PoE have infinite uses of their spells and abilities! It only seems to be limited by the AI. -

Really? Wow, alright, blown away here. My question was actually a bit tongue-in-cheek, and I knew that I learned to read Engwithan runes at Heritage Hill, I just did not at all expect it to manifest in completely unrelated contexts, and certainly not without lamplighting it. That is actually incredibly, incredibly awesome. -
The best part was that in the battle just before I took this picture, Durance actually faceplanted *after* all the opponents were dead, like he had a seizure and a heart attack, and then just got up again like the smelly drunk he is. I'd be fine if it got you up with 50% Endurance, and got you down to 10% when the duration runs out. Would give you room to heal yourself once you got up. But either way, yes, it should obviously be based on percentages of target total health. Right after the whole "Neutral NPC:s show up as allies", this thing here has to be the dumbest thing I've seen on the mechanical side of things in PoE so far.
