  2. To clarify things, Constantine's essay about Darth Roxor's review cannot be considered a 'thread', despite the author names it such, if only for the staggering amount of poop it contains. A reader has to avoid/skip sentences or become actively dumber in regards to pillars and eternity, certain this and thats or whatevers. See how silly it looks? dictionary.reference.com/browse/review This is true - the Attributes in PoE does not offer considerable bonuses. I do not mind, but it's true. It is also very true that the Attribute Bonuses is a lopsided mess that heavily favours specialization according to type. This is not a contradiction, this is a well-known and well-established fact. There's countless threads that examine it in detail. Trying to brush it off does in no way help the game. This is also true, and it has nothing to do with "look[ing] to cheat the game". You have to be functionally retarded to not "cheat" in this manner. The game, due to several factors involving disparate but interconnected mechanics (such as the Armour Dichotomy, the Lopsided Attribute Bonuses, and the War on Movement) divides the game into a strong Tank/DPS dichotomy, and the combat becomes formulaic. This is not exploiting the game or looking to cheat. You have to deliberately make bad, counter-intuitive decisions in the game in order to not have it down to a science by the end of Act 1, and actively work against yourself, such as running headlong into battle, place your ranged combatants at the front, not use knockdown, take nothing but Utility Talents. If you have an IQ north of 80. To think that "the typical player" would not be able to figure this out by themselves is deeply patronizing and insulting, like an adult handing a child a controller that is not plugged in. And I say this as a man that is consistently and constantly patronizing and insulting, and genuinely believe that the vast majority of people aren't fit to tie their own shoes, let alone vote or breathe automatically. But either way, irrelevant; I'm also unsatisfied with the dialogue choices (enjoy the enforced modernist morality w/ Lord Haron), the unfulfilling reputation system (why have negative reputation and more importantly, how?), and world reactivity both in regards to character (it's random, inconsistent and.. rubbish, in many cases, really - play a Human Priest(ess) of Eothas to examplify; compare to Orlan Cipher) and to player action (with some very notable exceptions). Again, examined and extensively covered in threads on this very forum. This has nothing to do with "old games". Hurr durr durf durf hurr hurr hurrr durrr. Yes, the review is trash and overly hostile, and some of the arguments used are flawed, but it doesn't change the fact that many of the conclusions are correct. We don't have to like it to agree with it. Disagreeing with it on the basis that it's s**t and full of bile would essentially be argumentum ad hominem. I object, based on the fact that the thread basically is just another example of someone believe their post deserves a new thread unlike everyone else's. This thread should've been locked as a duplicate thread and then a general thread created that isn't driven by someone's enormous ego and mountainous butthurt. I'm willing to agree with this. It then rushes to level 11 in Act 2 and becomes worse than Throne of Bhaal, only to leave you hanging at level 12 for the remainder of the game. But the very-earliest gameplay is certainly the best.
  3. When finishing the main quest "Through Death's Gaze", you get a Major Reputation boost with Defiance Bay. This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. All you do when finishing that quest is discover that the adra machines have been causing the Hollowborn and that the Leaden Key is behind it.
  4. Alright, so, something is up with the Shod-in-Faith boots. I have no idea how they are supposed to work, but I'm quite sure they're not working as intended. First of all, they don't give you the spell, which I think is intended. But then, they seem to either trigger at completely random times, or not trigger at all for hours of playtime, and then they'll suddenly activate 10-15 times immediately after combat ends. I think there's something wonky with the trigger and you need to have someone take a look at it. Here you can see it activating, and then do something weird 11 times once combat has ended. It's odd. If I catched it on vid, you'd notice something isn't working. Images doesn't do it justice, so you'll have to take my word for it.
  5. Yup. Another map-markers problem. As much as I hate spoiler-ish mapmarkers, the standard in the game is that there are spoiler-mapmarkers, and either way, there should be at least be markers for "Hey, thing here or something".
  6. All of the unique items in the CRPG (Club for Refined & Prestigious Gentlemen) store, the "Codex Collection" store seem to lack proper descriptions, and only have the default descriptions for the item group they belong to, despite having unique names, bonuses and effects.
  7. Upon finishing the Winds of Steel quest, the Crucible Knights questline in Defiance Bay, Pallegina dropped the following: There has been no mention of us speaking to the Duc yet. The first part of the conversation makes sense - she just expresses a general concern about how her superiors and the fact that they're selfish ****heads that only think about Vailian Blackpublics, but the second reveals that apparently, this is supposed to fire after we know that we're going to tell the duck something relating to this, but before we meet him. Not huge, but it should still be addressed. The easiest fix is probably to simply change the dialogue, I don't think it was voiced. Otherwise, just move it until the correct time and put a trigger outside or nearby Crucible Keep that fires it off, but only if you chose to help the Crucible Knights. Or something.
  8. I'm not sure if this is an actual issue or not, which might be considered an issue in itself. Why would Rymrgand's Mantle have a bonus called Mechanic, and why would an Item Bonus that converts Freeze Damage into Endurance be called Mechanic to begin with?
  9. This happens to me a lot. I think it's just a standard "ruin" dungeon loading screen. I think the Skaenite Temple uses it, too. I think any dungeon that is a ruin or similar uses it. It *would* be nice for all major dungeons to have unique loading screens, though.
  10. Yeah, I've taken to reporting most issues I can find, and this one is minor, but nonetheless it's there. Scroll of Missile Barrage uses what I can only assume to be old icon art for scrolls, that does not match the style of other scrolls.
  11. The description of Wall of Force, the Wizard Spell, says specifically that it leaves allies unscathed, while Hobbling enemies. However, it hurts allies and enemies equally.

  14. Wait, just to be clear, killing the Fampyr that is going to take you to Raedric... breaks the questline? Because that's utter horse**** and should be reported as an issue. It makes perfect sense for a lot of characters to immediately kill fampyrs on sight unless it's made adamantly clear before that point that you absolutely need them to do something (such as finding Raedric).
  15. My only gripe with Durance, really. It makes no sense, either. Yes, he's a gruff survivor, but in battle-mode, you'd expect him to act more or less on instinct, being an old warrior, and actually display a lot of battlefield solidarity, even if he'd go back to his brooding I-hate-you-all and my-goddess-is-a-whore-that-abandoned-me afterwards.

  17. I don't know, the nose and jawline is very close. Pallegina is at least 50% more Subsaharan N.. African, though. The nostrils are wider and the lips are much bigger. The ears also look different. It is as if Pallegina was drawn with the picture of Rihanna and a fat tribal woman as references. And a parrot.
  18. I would assume that the Spider would be in Endless Paths Lvl 1 or in the Dungeon before it is restored. That's the only places I can think of that features a lot of spiders, but I may be wrong. The dungeon gets restored, but not the Endless Paths, and I ran through that place with a rather high-Mechanics character for it's level.

Because, in the world of PoE, that was all his right and a legitimate thing to do. What could possibly make you say that. Everybody who found out about it was disgusted, the man was going out of his way to hide it, and he bribes you to keep it quiet. The whole point of the speech about it is saying that he's using his power and nobility to *hide his crime*. I'd say odds are, it's not something the Dyrwood approves of. Something can be your right, legal, or legitimate, without it being considered permissible in the eyes of the public or your peers. For example, incest is legal in Portugal and China (I just grabbed two countries out of a list). But you bet that a politician wouldn't want you to know about his S&M dungeon where he practices his incestuous foot-fetish. Homosexuality is legal in Russia, but you'd still not want to advertise it. Noble rights obviously go a long way in the Dyrwoods. Saying "It's his right to do what he wills with his subjects, and it's their duty to serve" is an extremely fitting thing to the setting as presented. Also, it's about player agency. Taking away the choices of the player means that the choices do not matter. When everyone is forced to be good, no-one is. My main character is an Aristocratic Bleak Walker. He's mostly Benevolent, often Rational, and very Aggressive, but he's got some very firm principles that would not be considered very popular by modernist, 21st-century morality squads. Well obviously the peasants of Dyrford are going to hate it, but even before the reveal happens they already resent him for being a noble who parades in their town and bosses them around. The noble's colleagues are probably going to act shocked publically, but not care much. At least, that is the probable reaction in a close-to-real-life medieval setting; we don't really know how such things are viewed by the Dyrwood's authorities. But obviously his blue blood alone means the guy most likely gets away with it, even if it is not his right to rape his niece. I also agree with Luckmann that the narrative is not Obsidian's best. The player lacks motivation until Act 3, and that's when they slap a big ultimatum on you and make it so going around doing side-quests makes no sense story wise. They could have handled this better by adding some urgency in Act 2 and taking some off Act 3. I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate ultimatum-based urgency as the end of main quests. They're half the reason I can never enjoy Oblivion, Skyrim or FO3. You'd think that they'd learned by now, and it's also odd that it's Obsidian that did it this time, because I don't remember any of the other games having this.

Taking away player agency makes all other options moot. When everyone is forced to do the "right" thing, it doesn't matter that you did. I think that was even the argument used by Urquhart, Cain or Fargo when it came to killing children in Fallout. If you can kill the children, it's a choice to not kill them, and therefore meaningful. If the killing of children is functionally impossible, it's not a choice. If you are forced to do good things, doing those good things feel meaningless. The narrative is.. not all that solid. The plot is, and the setting is good, and at least some of the characters have depth and complexity - and for once it's not just the CNPC:s, there's other characters that feel real and special without becoming absolute snowflakes. But the narrative itself, the storytelling, could definitely have been much better. Just look at the "Why hate being a Watcher"-thread for examples. Dude. As the reviewer said, it's not so uncommon among nobles, and this is actually one of the points where I agree with him the most. Actually, this had not occurred to me, and it would actually be a fantastic, fantastic twist to the whole thing if you chose to side with him. Because it's an assumption that many make. I'm not saying that it's wrong to make that assumption, but it would be a fantastic twist at the end of a confrontation if it turned out not to be true.

Even more of the same: Nedmar in Raedric's Hold's Sanctuary has nothing to say, and there is nothing to do, because you sided with the "wrong" side.Essentially, doing things in a sequence of events not expected by design results in a lockout of major parts, dialogues or meetings throughout the entire Raedric's Hold locale. Also: More world geometry see-through. Finally, if you follow the "To Dungeon Crypts" map transition point in the eastern-most part of the Raedric's Hold Sanctuary, you are taken to a locked door in the Dungeon. This door cannot be opened through any means, and requires a key, or to be opened from the inside. Why? There appears to be no sequence of events that breaks the questline (more than I already did by just talking to Raedric and siding with him), so the door being un-lockpick-able appears completely arbitrary. Perma-locked doors should only appear as a last resort, when sequences of events absolutely needs to be preserved.
  23. Very minor issue, but I thought I'd report it anyway. Basically, do a comparison between the Berathian Priest Robes, the Skaen Cultist Robes, and the Leaden Key Robes. Oddly, it already looks distinct on female models. Berathian Priest Robes needs a unique model or look for male models, and should have a unique icon as well.
  24. There's a couple of places that feels similarly forced. Like enforced modernism and 21st-century morality.
