  1. Oh. I guess I am used to beating on a single wolf for five minutes in Gothic then, because I thought that was fast..

On a pc with a different control sheme I wouldn't see it to be a problem. On a console controller where you hack'slay yourself faster reaction and gameplay is more active and preferable.

Thats why I said I would like an option. At the moment its pretty good already anyway.

  2. -Speed up the gameplay or have an option. I really like the battle system but its too slow for its own good in the current form. It would work with Mouse/Keyboard controls though.

Could you explain what you mean? I watched him slice through like ten spiders in two seconds, it looked pretty fast to me. Or do you mean the walking around?

Combat itself. It may seem fast but actually it could be a little faster especially for console gamers to get a better feeling.

  3. So after we had a look what improvements could they make and hopefully will have a look at.

    Personally two things

-Animation when enemies are hit look stale on some occasions at the moment. They look more "pushed" than actually hit. I hope these aren't finished.

  4.

He doesn't really say he didn't like it. He didn't even pay attention to it according to his statement. Because it wasn't what he wanted to see.

    Besiders, Gamefaqs.

I meant that he didn't like the fact that there was an entire panel dedicated to Dungeon Siege III.

    Ups sorry misunderstood.^^

  5. This "Alpha Protocol fiasco" was - for me personally - no fiasco at all. Well okay, one could say the fiasco was stupid people who write stupid reviews... Liked the game, still liking it. I can live with the flaws and I am happy that I've spend my money in this game than some other crappy ****. :>

Seconding that. I wouldn't lie to name it under my favourite games of all time. Has a great deal to do with personal bias towards spy fiction though.

Charachters like Marburg, Stephen Heck and SIE are incredible. I strongly hope there are charachters with this much personality in New Vegas :deadhorse:

  6. Well, it doesnt work for me.

I had run time error before, and now instead of runtime error it just crash, gg...

Can somebody change the thread title to US Patch release? It would avoid confusion and these situations. Well, not fully since the ones who would have to change it is SEGA but still.

  7. So, it looks like it is Obsidian's call, if there's a sequel or not, according to Mills.

Well, they would have to find a publisher first. That can be hard. And whats not to say that SEGA doesn't take some sort of bizzare legal action.

Agree with the whole rebalance thing though. Playing Alpha Protocol is kinda like playing Planescape Torment in gameplay again. Except here combat is mandatory over the entire game.

  8. Wow I'm quite suprised but clips from PC version really look much better. :) F.. Yeah!

    Can't wait!

    I don't honestly notice any difference.. :p

Higher resolution/textures. It's only for 3 seconds really noticable. Though I'm pretty sure we have seen PC footage already.

  9. Agreed, I suspect that Brian Menze & Co's original script was a lot more realgritty.

    You mean Brian Mitsoda.^^

Also I honestly have to say I prefer the current state over a realgritty one. I'm a big fan of spy fiction and its an incredible hommage to it.

Also we were talking about gameplay not the story itself.

(Not to mention, I doubt it would have been "real" either way. The portrayal of espionage we have in modern media is as far from reality as you can get)

  10. No it wasn't a mechanics issue. It wasn't that I thought the concept sucked either as I loved the concept. It wasn't really even that the martial arts controls lacked any defensive moves either. Hell it wasn't even the dated graphics, poor voice acting, save points, third person view allowing you to look around corners, cover system that made it overly easy, bosses that had moments of being impervious to damage or that it froze up a couple times.

The lack of any functional patch coming, the game freezing, poor hand to hand combat system and some graphics issues I figured it was best to return it while I could.

I could of played on in hopes that I could ignore the problems but I learned my lesson with Borderlands that if a patch isn't released immediately then the odds are poor that one will eventually come out that actually does anything.

Uhmm, the only thing I read in this rant (which most of I can't really agree. VA was great, Cover was useless and in many situations you were better off just shooting and punching dudes, and hand to hand combat was probably the best part about the gameplay IMO) that are actual technical problems instead of opinion is the freezing. Can you elaborate on that? Even if we can't help ypu it can be used for further information to other players.

  11. I bought a copy of this game on the PS3 and got my money back from Gamestop three days. The manager didn't even argue the fact that the game was broken without a patch. Just gave me my money back.

I took Fallout New Vegas off of pre-order after playing this game. I remembered how glitched the last version was upon release and I simply saw it as too big of a risk given the games history and Obsidians job with AP.

I seriously hope they come out with a patch for you guys soon. Good luck!

What glitches did you have? As far as I remember there was nothing gamebreaking in the PS3 release apart from problems with the checkpoint system which can be resolved

  12. What? That I don't understand. KOTOR2 and NWN2 were way way way way buggier than AP ever was. And honestly giving out different versions of patches and adjusting the DRM etc and looking that it works with every version. Isn't that kinda Segas job?

KOTOR2 and NWN2 were better games out the box and though both suffered from a number of bugs, Obsidian was quick to release fixes and patches. The release now and fix later approach is so prevalent that it's pretty much become an industry standard unfortunately. That doesn't excuse the practice however. But when a company releases a game which is not only bugged, but encumbered with any number of other issues, hardly communicate even with their own community, and then release a minimal patch that apparently breaks all non-US versions of the game...then that is bringing that standard to a new low. The responsibility may or may not lie with Sega, but it reflects poorly on both.

That's opinion. As for the rest well..... I don't really agree but I see the point and it certainly hurts the image.

Edit: Just to add. KOTOR1 better game aside from the bugs out of the box. Yes NWN2. No way in hell.

  13. I don't think it's the big official patch we're waiting for XD THat would be ridiculous.

It would be. But I fear that this is the official patch, since it is from Sega.

That sounds strange to me: on the official site there isn't any link about the patch and this is a big (and the unique) chance for the Obsidian to sell more units of the game and improve its "reputation" so would be really stupid making an useless patch o:) if THAT is the patch they were talking about, then I think obsidian is crap

To be fair here. The only thing that seems wrong with it are that there aren't seperate versions of the patch because it seems to work for the US version and addressed issues. So, we just have to wait for a european version of the patch. >_<

...which is indeed a crappy way to treat paying customers. It's one more thing that gives me the impression companies exploit European markets unfairly: US versions are almost always released sooner and are almost always, quite often significantly, cheaper (European customers might not be united nor bitchy enough - allowing various companies to get away with such policies). The US version being the only one to benefit from patching is adding insult to injury.

As for the reputation of Obsidian...this only enforce the impression that they're basically incapable of making games on their own, and have to be supported by IP/brand names to deliver. If Obsidian was a music band, it'd be a cover band pretty much.

  14. Gotta love people getting defensive when anyone on these forums isn't slinging praise at the game.

I never trashed the game, you all just jumped down my throat the moment I mentioned that the frustration with the shooting mechanics was certainly understandable, and that the game could have done some things better.

I have absolutely nothing against legitimate criticism. I don't think bashing an RPG for not conforming to "other shooters" is legitimate criticism. Nor do I think trashing pistols because they don't behave likes SMGs/Assault Rifles/completely fabricated weapons from another genre of game qualifies either.

AP was a real-world RPG, therefore shooting was largely skill-based and conformed to how weapons work in the real world. Someone who bothered to read the box before playing the game might be inclined to congratulate the developer for this achievement.

Nah, there were some parts that felt real but it was still largly fiction.

AP uses "Real World" mostly as a background. In its heart it is spy fiction. Absolutly great spy fiction at that.

  15. I was not trashing it for being a bad shooter, and that's still not a strawman. You're the one strawmanning here.

Then what are you trashing it for if I may ask?

Gotta love people getting defensive when anyone on these forums isn't slinging praise at the game.

I never trashed the game, you all just jumped down my throat the moment I mentioned that the frustration with the shooting mechanics was certainly understandable, and that the game could have done some things better.

Oh, I wasn't in the conversation from the beginning. Also, I believe people can get frustrated by the system but anyone who wants to learn it has to learn it. It's that simple. I did not blame Splinter Cell or Thief back in the day because the usual shoot at everything tactic didn't work. Obsidian added an tutorial. I don't see the problem in that regard. Now beeing frustrated by the bosses or that the combat feels like a chore. THAT can I understand. And seriously waiting for a reticicle to close and distributing skill point isn't one of the hardest things to learn ever in gaming.

As for your comment. I called you out on it because the phrase "I was not trashing it for beeing .... " kinda implies that you trashed the game for another reason.
