Fallout: New Vegas
True, but at least he gave me a slim hope.

Fallout: New Vegas
Wow. Obsidian manages to sneak a few Fallout references even in the pre-order bonuses? That's... both strange and cool at the same time. EDIT : I don't want to jump to conclusions, but judging by Jason Bergman's twitter it looks like they're recording voice overs in California. I hope I didn't misinterpret things. I really really really hope.

To be honest, seeing the reception Alpha Protocol is receiving compared to Fallout : New Vegas I'm wondering.. is it because New Vegas it's a sequel to Fallout 3 and Fallout 3 was awesome so Fallout New Vegas will be more awesome (for the mags, at least), is it because Bethesda is backing them up (they're drooling over Hunted too..) or is it simply because? I mean, I expected a mixed reaction, but I didn't expect this much negativity.. makes me wonder if Obsidian really made the right choices.

Unreliable or not these reviews WILL hurt the game and Obsidian pretty badly. And come on, with all the people that have played the game on the forum, isn't there anyone that can comment and say 'this is wrong' or 'I haven't encountered bugs so far'? You guys aren't doing a good job reassuring me.

Fallout: New Vegas
I hope Fallout New Vegas doesn't use Fallout 3's voice actors. Except Kevin Michael Richardson (Sarevok, the dark brotherhood guy in Morrowind, the guy who wants you to blow up megaton in FO 3) He was goodness. Aehm.. KMR didn't work on Fallout 3.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
I remember playing the first (or second?) Driven, and for some reason they billed it as a GTA-clone or something. Didn't look like that to me. Whatever, color me interested.

The Reviews
http://www.gladriel.com/reviewFull/content...rotocol-review/ Another review. To be honest, they complain about graphics, AI and hacking minigames, yet at the end they talk about glaring design flaws (wut? do they know what design means?). Also a lot of comparisons to Mass Effect, that I'd image has stealth going by that review. Score is 7.5.

How is the availability of tranquilizers compared to normal ammo?

Mod Support?
It is possible. Granted, what I've seen were generally texture replacements and not much more, and the installing method wasn't nearly as smooth as other games' that are designed to be modded from the ground-up.

Mod Support?
Considering it's the Unreal Engine we're talking about, I'd assume it'll be much harder to mod than other titles like Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights 2 or Fallout 3. Still, I've never watched the Mass Effect modding scene, so I don't know how extensive the modding can be, but it should be possible to at least do some texture replacement stuff. P.S. : Are you the same 4aces that did a couple of high-res textures for Fallout 3?

Early Impressions
Definitely interesting. Personally, if I were a mod I'd open a thread for all this first impressions.. not that they're not nice to read, mind you, but we've had a couple of threads which basically amount to 'what I think of Alpha Protocol after X hours' and having all those opinion in one thread would probably make for a far easier read.

The usual game versions' mayhem
I'm already seeing it on tomorrows' gamezines headlines : OBSIDIAN DEVELOPERS CONFIRMS XBOX360 VERSION OF ALPHA PROTOCOL IS BETTER.

The Reviews
Yatzee is usually fun but rarely insightful. When is the last time any video game review was insightful? I found the Codex's Dragon Age review surprisingly insightful and fair. Granted, you were probably referring to mainstream reviews.

The usual game versions' mayhem
Wow, it looks like the PC version is winning by an overwhelming margin right now. Granted, that's far from indicative considering that the users of this forum are usually already PC gamers, and that probably it's easier to download the game from a couple of downloading services that broke the released date rather than buy a console copy but.. wow. Also Alpha Protocol's PC version is apparently the top-seller for PC games on Play.com (linky : http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/5320389/Al...G/Product.html).

I never perceived it as a logic loop. More as a 'Plz, blow up' 'Lulz, nice, ok. BOOM' I think they felt they add to add that option since it's Fallout-y but couldn't write it properly and gave up on it.

John Henry Eden is a better villain than Shodan? WUT? Even I, a man who still hasn't played System Shock, after having seen the reveal on a YouTube video bow before Shodan. Come on, President Eden wasn't even threatening!

The poll pretty much says it all. Also, a graphical comparison between the 2 console versions here. They look pretty much the same imho.

The Marlowe ploy was indeed particularly good, especially since it took me 2 playthroughs to understand exactly WHEN he made the switch (and to be honest there are hints, both subtle and not subtle.. the subtle hints being the change of his tone in dialogue, the less subtle being your witcher pendant vibrating as with monsters and threats...). Even will all its flaw, The Witcher was a pretty memorable experience.

By the Doctor you mean the Professor? I liked his smugness but Javed felt unimportant and the end. Yes he was threatening but he was also shallow and basically a scary arabian man with piercings without much personality. while a bit rushed in his presentation felt quite cool though.

Meaning that you don't like the mag, or that you haven't read it?

The Reviews
True, but there's still quite a few people waiting to play the game... So who knows how it'll turn out? June 1st can't get here soon enough. Yeah, as I've already said, it's probably me being overtly negative, especially since some games with rather mixed reviews on Metacritic still manage to achieve a respectable success. It also appears like I generally enjoy less polished/well-received games compare to the mainstream (not because of their lack of polish, but because imho they're better in other departments ).

Strange to see that they find Bioshock 2's villain superior to the first one, I've always thought the consensus was that Bioshock had the better plot and characters while Bioshock 2 was the better shooter.

I was talking of the IGN user reviews you silly. @The moderator with the amusing cat avatar - I very much know, but I still think that some points deserve to be analyzed, even if they derive from horrible misinterpretations of the designers' intent. For example it's quite clear that Alpha Protocol didn't manage to get its design philosophy across with some even after putting the subtitle, and it's quite clear that otherwise, some people will feel that it's too light as an rpg.

Interesting. I'm probably going to get ME2 after I've finished Alpha Protocol a couple of times and I finally manage to finish my exams (at least 'til September).
