  1. Definitely, the West meets East feel that the Eastern Romans had would work quite nicely. Case in point : Speaking of which, I've found an interesting painting; I think this design would fit a wizard perfectly : It does look rather stately, doesn't it?
  2. Indeed, you'll be free to wear anything you want as a wizard (whether it'll be optimal to use plate as a magic user is an entirely different matter though). And if Aloth's concept art is anything to go by, the dresses won't be the norm. Here's what we've seen so far :
  3. We were wondering just how detailed the designs could be in PE, here's our answer : In short : quite detailed indeed; that opens up a lot of possibilites. I'd say they could easily recreate even this armour. And I'm very happy to see that they're indeed aiming for a more down to earth look.
  4. This topic has undergone some changes since it first appeared on these forums; it evolved to become a place to dicuss various influences for armour & weapon designs. Feel free to share artwork, pictures etc. that you find appealing. If there's something that you'd want to see/not see in the PE, join the discussion! A clarification on my stance : I'm definitely not advocating complete realism. Historical designs are, I think, a good source of inspiration, but it doesn't mean they have to be copied slavishly - taking bits and pieces out of history and using them creatively can produce very interesting results. In short - verisimilitude, not necessarily realism. And to end this little introduction, here's a quote from one of the developers :

  6. This is what we've seen so far : It is my hope that the cultural designs will be in stark contrast to each other. What've seen so far seems to confirm that it'll be the case : In addition, here's some more inspirational artwork : Lovely detail on the armour.
  7. See for yourself : http://youtu.be/AUleDEFkUtE?t=2m17s I'd say that you can see a fair amount of detail. In any case, PE, from what we've seen so far, does seem to employ a more down-to-earth style, case in point : As for the armour from Sweet's portraits - I do like it, boob plate and questionable shoulderpads notwithstanding At least it actually protects.
  8. Peruse these topics and you'll find that there's more than enough unique designs, even within the plate armour category. In fact, you could probably make distinctive armour sets for a few MMOs from all the pictures we've all been posting here...
  9. Plain?! I challenge that notion. Discussion has spiked as of late, so time to plume it up a bit...
  10. Fair enough - in that case I'd want to see designs based on what that rider on the right looks like : Lamellar armour, intricately ornamented helmet with an aventail and a gold encrusted saber. Stylish, but not overdone.
  11. Look no further than the Eastern Roman Empire : Shame it's all a bit anachronistic though. Some of the designs could be, however, utilised for the more primitive cultures.
  12. And more lamellar (a little bit outside of PE's timeline though) : (Now that's stylish!)
  13. Indeed, here's a perfect example : As for the bucklers - I'd love to see them in the game too. And, as you've pointed out, I hope they have a place - I'd hate it if they were just inferior to bigger shields in every aspect (as is often the case).
  14. Great piece, Rostere. Do share more! In return, I present to you, the medieval bros :
  15. I like where they are going with the UI; I prefer a more solid look to it. There's a lot of work still to be done, though.
  16. Really enjoying the discussion in this topic. But I thought that it's high time to add some plumes to the pot :
  17. It is my hope as well; I'd personally prefer it if magical items were rare and that we'd instead see a wealth of cultural variants of arms & armour. I'll make a more detailed post, focused on this very matter, at a later date.
  18. And we have a new piece of concept art to discuss : I'm glad to see that the team has went the extra mile; as I've mentioned before (in this post), contrasting cultural visual identities are, to me, the best way to ensure that the world feels alive. I do hope that the arms & armour will also look unique for each culture. I really like the Turkish inspired Ixamitl designs, rather indifferent about the Aedyrans though.
  19. When it comes to combat music, I hope that there will lots of variety - we'll be hearing it quite often in PE, after all. I thought that MotB handled that aspect admirably - each region had a unique battle theme. While I'm aware that the scope here's much bigger, it's something worth investing time in, in my opinion. Some examples : P.S. Here's hoping for Spanish-tinged guitar for the Vaillan combat scenes.
  20. I'm guessing we'll know about all of them soon enough, with the pre-production now in full swing. But I think Sweet won't be among them, unfortunately.
  21. Nice work! This is exactly what I've been waiting for! 2D, it's nice to see you again, a pleasure. *tips top hat and adjusts the monocle* I assume we'll be playing in the zoomed in view from the 2:18 and onwards? I like the detail on the characters.
  22. And now we know what level of detail we can expect from arms & armour (starting from 2:18) : It's quite significant, actually. And it looks like rapiers and scimitars (or sabres) are in. And (though my eyes could've deceived me) I think that the main character's wearing a face-covering Mail Aventail?
  23. And here's some more plate armour designs (first two are a little bit outside the game's timeline though) :
