  1. You mean non-existent in the RP sense, but very useful in combat? edit: (Bad day for edits) but in fact, if you play with zaeed, he has at least as many on-mission chats as all the other characters. It's only the lack of the beloved conversation wheel that really sets him apart. Unless you're taking a swipe at all the ME2 NPCs, which might or might not be valid.
  2. *Smug face* I'm not looking forward to dungeon siege III and I'm looking forward to dragon age 2 so much I managed to forget it existed between posting in that thread and this thread. So, yeah, the journalist might not be too far from the truth.
  3. That's the way it looks like to me, as well. Or there's some other nebulous reason for pushing for the maximum amount of preorders possible, not that I can think of one. Hope this works out better in Europe than the DAO CE fiasco. Edit: Just reminded me of something. Are they saying all the DLC list is EXCLUSIVE to the Signature Edition? In case you guys don't remember, 'Cerberus network' was listed for a long time on the ME2 CE content list (and the contents of the regular edition had not been announced), so a lot of people assumed it was a part of JUST the CE... Edit2: Only the 'in-game armory' is advertised as exclusive. So it might just be another case of misleading advertising (or people jumping to conclusions) Edit3: Looking at the front page, if any of those things listed in the signature edition contents actually were available free with the 'regular' new game, it REALLY would be false advertising. I'd still expect to see something substantial to hamper used resales. :/
  4. ****! That was like one of the two games announced for next year I was actually looking forward to (the other one is dx3)
  5. The cost of living is so high it might just as well be imaginary. OnT: I was borking around with TuneUp and it managed to crack a 10-year mystery for me. The song I've been trying to id for so long is Mr. President - 4 On The Floor (Komakino remix). I never imagined those people'd get a remix done by some 'serious' people, so never investigated that possibility. Well, I know it now. Too bad tuneup failed me with the two other tracks pulled from different dj mixes, but those might be +/- pitched to the point of being unrecognisable, I guess. Still, I've been pretty impressed with this software so far, it also IDd the 'lower afterlife song' from ME2 for me - no mean feat, considering the track's never been published on a 'regular' cd... (just some strange industry package to radio stations etc.)
  6. ****ing hell, Cal. Will you get compensated at all? 50 bucks... because my dad sent it at book rate and without insurance. I ain't gonna be replacing half that stuff any time soon. Oh man, that sucks. I'd offer to send you something by way of a gift, but I just heard this afternoon that ALL my PhD funding has been cut. Feth knows what I'm going to do now. With nothing big coming down the pike I may have to resort to temping! Should be quite awkward. Still, never afraid of some hard work. Come to Helsinki, we are so ****ing provincial that anyone south of Sweden is received like the second coming of Jesus.
  7. And this one: http://ealouse.wordpress.com/2010/10/14/the-truth/ Interesting read. While it doesn't look like he has any actual inside knowledge to the Kotor project, he's perfectly right in pointing out that riding the 'fully voiced' horse, and no other, isn't exactly promising. Yearly Blur trailers... And if they decide to rip of clone wars for the art direction... Sigh. Not making any decisions regarding the game just yet, but am not going to pick it up unless/until there is a mac client at any rate. Also an interesting re: the way EA handles its purchased studios...
  8. I think what qualifies you as a 'hater' is seeing excuses in what I wrote earlier. Or, if you're saying that I like eurogamer and am thinking of excuses for them, you might be right. Bioware, not so much. In fact, the only reason I tend to support Bio is because I don't want to jump on the antiBiotic bandwagon with y'all.
  9. Has this thread been anything else than the 'boohoo, bio sold out and now only makes crap, I'll go play some Mongolian rpg only 10 people have ever heard of' mobbing everybody else?
  10. In a shocking and unprecedented twist - there are clones! many many MANY clones And then in some of the teasers that have been released with designers talking about it.. there's the hint that the really surprise and unprecedented twist..is that he might not have actually died, and just thinks he's a clone among many... But that could have just been them trying to play with the fans minds.. I think the theory was that your FU1 char would actually have been a clone from the Empirical onwards... and now you'd be back to controlling DA ORIGINAL SAM WITWER...
  11. I'm a lawyer. I've been a prosecutor, but never a cop. Was it the french kissing gromnir part that gave me away?
  12. Wow, in that case, my local FLGS must be the most dangerous place on earth! /poor attempt at levity
  13. So, bought an HDMI splitter (ATEN vs-182) hoping I could get an elegant solution for my mirroring my main monitor to the TV as well. Now, this is not as stupid as it sounds, since both are 1080p displays, so they'd use the same video settings as well. Unfortunately, I never even got this far. The switch initially reported itself as a 2-channel audio device (so it refused to accept even an AC3 stream), when I tried to tweak things a bit, it stopped reporting itself as an audio device at all... back in the box, taking it for a refund tomorrow. Now my alternatives are, A) going low tech style and hotswapping the hdmi out between the monitor and receiver->tv lines when I need. Downside: no hdmi audio when using monitor. B) actually taking advantage of my 1899e dual output Pioneer amp and running the signal first to the amp, and then to the tv and the screen. Downside: at the very least, I need to keep the 7x140w (actual measured, not advertised watts) thing going when I'm using the computer. I might also be unable to watch tv and have the hdmi signal routed to the tv at the same time (pretty sure it's this way, looking at the manual would suggest otherwise, but I'm sure there's a catch somewhere). Le sigh.
  14. Interesting. It's illegal to block a UK user from using a game purchased elsewhere in Europe. Jus' sayin'...
  15. My regular go-to supplier didn't show ANY version of the game. They do sometimes get preorders a bit late (OTOH, they had mass effect 3, so YMMV)...
  16. If needed, just drop the gfx settings until the name of the game turns into Conan the Pixel Murders Gaiderland and looks like this: ... All witticism aside, DAO and everything else I've tried has worked just fine.
  17. Also looks like the health bar will actually be visible in the console versions this time around. And that's from the PS3 version, so it might not be the borderline-playable frame skipping afterthought it was the last time. That said, the 'press x to swing sword' looks just as unpleasant as I was afraid it would. Hopefully my Mini won't choke on the game...
  18. It's not just 'planning', Finland, Sweden etc. already have access to the free 'super saver' delivery as of this monday. I know, I ordered a bunch of movies post-haste.
  19. I played with both, and I can safely say that the console versions' combat controls were inferior. I think the Eurogamer reviews are pretty spot-on. I won't say they were 'bad', though, in fact it was a fairly solid implementation and I doubt it could have been done much better without cutting down on the amount of abilities and other options, but still clearly inferior to the PC one.
  20. To be fair on the families side, they did ask the Americans not to go gung-ho and charge in, because they knew some people that were negotiating for their daughters release.. So I can understand why they're so pissed that the Americans went in anyway.. But yes, I'm amazed at the one-sided reporting again. According to the Telegraph the decision to go in was prompted by intelligence suggesting she was about to be moved across the 'border' to Pakistan, and into the hands of a different and more violent group. To the best of my knowledge every manual on special operations warfare is scathing on the topic of political leaders second guessing tactical behaviour. If that is so, how much less helpful is it for civilians to do it? If anyone is interested the best book I've ever read on the topic is by William H. McRaven Special Operations Warfare, Theory and Practice. For what my opinoni is worth, of course! I think it's better that the military has external oversight of some kind - it's kind of a part of democracy. Trial by newspaper is, of course, another thing, but 'oh well, **** happens' is not enough when a civilian is killed in an op (of this kind).
  21. Those missions give me nightmares. I blame Dark Corners of the Earth.
  22. If your trying to reduce budget, you don't add an expensive and entirely superfluous feature liked Voiced PC. Sure you do. Obviously having one guy (and a girl) read lines is a lot less expensive than having a team work on the game for 3 years instead of 18 months (or whatever the cycle is now - I'd say 18 looks pretty close to the mark). Then you can say "we had to shorten the game due to the amount of data the fully-voiced PC consumed).
