That and "generic". You don't really have to know anything or about books/art/and so on and you are always right since nearly everything has been done before in one way or another. Hell, you don't even have to fully experience it like Morgoth elegantly demonstrates here. Also Shooters get just as much critizied for their length/pacing than other games. Theres no "perfect balance" for everyone to enjoy. The reason Shooters sell more than Rpgs is easy. It's the same reason there are less D&D Nerds than there are Gun Lovers on this planet. Everyones favorite activity is to shoot things. Quoted for awesome.

But, but... that would require the princesses understand that the world doesn't revolve around them?!

Well, the camera sure was lingering on his V-shaped torso, as I recall, but as you yourself pointed out, a similar affront with a male character would require a full-on crotch shot to be considered similarily provoking. Ah, double standards.

Yet when they recycled it in DA2, I didn't hear anybody like it. Because it wasn't very well recycled? Raising money in Ch2 in BG2 -> Thieves Guild, Umar Hills, Windspear Hills, Planar Sphere, Unseeing Eye, Planar Prison, Trademeet Raising money in Ch2 in DA2 -> X identical fetch/kill quests in X identical looking dungeons It didn't feel that bad to me, but you might have gotten me there.

Reaction to Miranda's "frequent" butt shots wasn't positive? This is the whole part where we pretend that looking at a great ass is wrong, sexist, amoral and juvenile, since in a perfect world, all people should be created like Miranda was. In a lab.

It's like.... you know that by heart!

News Int. Inc. hack phone of missing (dead girl)
Nepenthe replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
I guess we should point out the difference between rich and wealthy? But point is that corporations and those within can drag cases for years. E.G: the ruling on sexual harassment suits against Walmarts employees and Halliburton (KBR) Grom already pointed out the difference between criminal and civil cases... Ninja'd... by an hour. ("Oh, there was one page more?!") Surely Gromnir you know by now how everybody is a legal expert (which IMO is in the heart of all the lawyer hate. I personally hate dentists. Coz they are sadists and bill roughly ten times more than I do). -
:D Missed that, indeed. Apparently "not epic enough" is the new "poor writing", the last-ditch complaint when you can't think of anything else. Yet when they recycled it in DA2, I didn't hear anybody like it. I doubt nostalgia is connected (at least directly) to how much imagination you need to fill in the blanks, I think those initial gaming experiences will be magical to each of us. For me, those games are Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades and Gargoyle's Quest. For some of us here, it's going to be BG2, maybe Torment. For some kids down the line, it's going to be something else. But for most, everything new will either be a rehash of the old, or just not as good.

Heavy Rain was long? Really? I mean, I had food poisoning when a played LA Noire, so I was up for two days straight and spent a lot of time throwing up, so I don't really have a time stamp for that, but... Heavy Rain? Well, whoever these guys are, their studio tagline should be "by idiots, for idiots".

My condolences, as well. In this end, spent another day writing, the 49th in a row by my calculations. Also bought a bunch of OOP Eldar off ebay, the paint-fest starts the second I'm finished with My Greatest Achievement.

We are vastly outnumbered, but of course we can always ban people if they get the better of us. In regards to the topic - I just discovered the now dead Beyond The Red Line (Battlestar Galatica) mod for Freespace and it was actually pretty frakking sweet. Even though you only get 2 missions. Then I found out that most of the team has moved on to a similar project called Diaspora. I'm looking forward to this! Also, saw the trailer for Prototype 2 - looks pretty sweet. *cough* moderates, not moderators.

What he said. Exactly. I buy games that interest me, who makes them is irrelevant. Yeah I don't get that. I mean I get it as an overall philosophy, but you both spend a lot of time on the OE forums. Obsidian provides these forums for their fans (and a few trolls). If you enjoy these forums and want them to stick around, there is really only one way to show that, and that is buying their products. They are trying to run a business after all, not a social network. Now I don't think that means you need to buy every one of their products, but I do think they all deserve your consideration. If their products really aren't worth your consideration, then I don't see why you would hang out here. Do you bring your own beer when you go to a bar? Exactly what Hurlie said(, too). There's no way I'd be thinking about the game if it didn't have the Obsidian logo on it. Now I'm at least going to give the demo a shot... Well, that's just final proof that you are an idiot. I certainly hope that there is a minimal amount of people like you around here, but the way some people around here live in a nostalgia dreamworld, I wonder...

Uh, can't you simply play the demo and judge by yourself? Unless you have already. If you still don't know whether you'd like the full game I'm not sure what to tell you. I remembered the demo a bit after my earlier post. I'll have to give it a try, been too busy to game.
-
Why should you? (I understand that it was a joke, but still.) Unless you pirated it. Since I spend an inordinate amount of time blabbering on their forums, I consider myself morally required to buy their games. Unfortunately, I didn't pick this one up since even after release and a couple of reviews, I simply have no idea what to really expect and whether I would like it.
-
Previous list has it at 19. But 8 positions would still be a hell of a climb after release. Can anybody from UK come up with a theory? If it was release week and the week after, UK released on Friday. If not, no idea. (Yes, I admit, I did not buy it. I feel bad about it, ok?)

It ain't confirmed until it's in the financials, and even then it might not be exactly clear. Until somebody from Squeenix says they were happy/disappointed with how the game performed, this is an exercise in futility. Well, it would be another interesting psychological study in cognitive bias for all involved, but...

Thanks GD, they were lucky and seemed to get mostly my wife's genes While it's kind of soothing from the "at least I know I'm funding my own kid" point of view, there really isn't anything more tragic than a girl who looks just like her father.

No. Failure in quality versus failure in fan expectations are two different things. Fans ususally change their minds and expectations more frequently than their socks. Bioware experimented a bit more with DA2 and I think they pulled it off. It sure as hell beats the drab DA:O. It also shows in the sale numbers. I think you are on the money. (for the record, I mean that I think that he's right, not that EA has paid him off) :D

More phone calls from the twilight zone. (I'm not seeing a lot of signs that say Obsidian has a lot of room in picking the projects they work on, unfortunately).

I can't tell, but is there actually a difference between Battlefield and the MW games? Battlefield games generally have longer SP levels and are less dependent on creating a "cinematic experience" by herding you along a single path from one scripted encounter to the other.* *(Based on my experience of Bad Company 1 and 2).

Dead Nation, definately the best thing to come out of Finland since... I'm going to say Porn - that's all I'm finding. Edit: Don't google "Hot finnish girls" with safe search off. I have to assume you've never seen Finnish pornography. In fact, it's an insult to pornography to refer to it as such, "smut" is the best those copulating quasimodos deserve. I always thought Rakel Liekki was hot. Then again that's the only finnish pr0n actress I know. My earlier post was a slight exaggeration, as the women are generally quite attactive, but the male "talent" and non-existent production values are generally enough to make the whole affair appear pretty seedy.

I wouldn't even want it if it was -60% off. You don't like anything. Apart of unnecessarily numerous genre classifications.

Blu-ray =/= Sony, and I wouldn't be surprised if the xbox already had Sony components. Even if it didn't, it does have Samsung components, and I sure as hell can't see it written anywhere. Blu-ray's currently up to 128gb. I doubt optical media will be replaced by anything else than direct downloads as a distribution method.

And I've thought that this is obvious. The best-looking PS3 games use a lot of fundamental approaches that wouldn't make sense on a different kind of hardware (I think the most common examples of this are SPU based deferred shading/lighting). OTOH, the gap between UE games on the two platforms has been closing fast over the past year, so I guess optimisations can be done to multiplatform engines as well...
