  1. The pathfinding in Firewine bridge rendered it almost unplayable, in fact a number of times I had to leave the party at the entrance and solo it with a thief sneaking about. I agree with the guy who loved the 'Escape from Candlekeep' dungeon in BG1, the one with the basilisks. It rocked.
  2. A game where you fight monsters in tunnels can only be a Good Thing. There's nothing like loot, dungeons and fighting. Monty Haul gaming is in the DNA of fantasy RPG'ing and I hope to see some proper old skool values in this game. This includes dungeons, tunnels, catacombs, lairs, caves... and fighting in them. Please discuss favourite fighting in tunnels moments from other games and why. Cheers MC
  3. Rejoice, for this announcement (whatever other problems it augurs) means one thing.... TUNNELS!
  4. You can't ranch mules, 'Tep, they're infertile. A spell to restore their potency, however, would make perfect sense in a fantasy game and could indeed in of itself be an engaging side-quest. Restore the Mule Mojo!
  5. I'm completely serious when I say the best thing about DS1 was the Pack Mule. I loved that little fella. Now is the time to allow you to: * Up-armour the pack mule * Train the pack mule to explode, like a fiery equine IED * Allow a spell that turns the pack mule into a gimlet-eyed engine of EEEE-AW! destruction * Pet your mule for extra karma and tamagotchi-style mini-game action --- Seriously, you could be missing a trick by not using the mule to it's fullest potential.
  6. Hawk The Slayer was good when I was fourteen, but I saw it again recently and realised that it was so-bad-it's-really-bad. Except the silly string spell effect by the wizard.
  7. Hmmm. I'm in two minds. On one hand, the Dungeon Siege franchise is a screen-saver of the most generic fantasy setting you could imagine. Then again, Obz making a Dungeon Siege game is a little bit like asking David Simon to write an episode of TJ Hooker. So it might be quite interesting. Please, though, don't clash with a Diablo 3 release window. No more David V Goliath.
  8. If there aren't crates then I'm not buying it.
  9. If the film's good enough, you sort of don't notice them, just read them by default. Nikita is a good example. All the same I thought it was best to mention it, for some subs are a dealbreaker and I didn't want to waste their time. My wife has a learning disability, and reading subtitles fast is just extremely difficult for her. So there are legitimate reasons why some people avoid them. I didn't suggest that there weren't.

  11. Reasonable scientists and others are challenging the hysteria and slowly de-bunking the whole thing, I suppose. What dream world do you live in? One based on open, peer-reviewed science, not astro-turfing leftist groupthink
  12. I read Watchmen when it first came out, and although I enjoyed it, it was a long time ago. So my recollection was hazy. Anyhow, the credits were awesome. But by the time we were learning about The Joker's past it seemed a bit po-faced and, yes, over-stylized. I fell asleep, having had a long day, and woke up long after it finished. I will get round to watching it and doing it justice another time, it looked very promising but perhaps too demanding for late on a Saturday night.

  14. What's the view on Watchmen? I might watch it later but would appreciate an opinion or two.
  15. Wow, looks like Cap'n America just joined the Village People.
  16. I don't want to rain on the parade with regards to Deus Ex 3, but looking at those screenies all I see is the Crysis body armour, pumped-up FPS supa-weapons and spider-bots. Just like every other quasi, near-future FPS game. I'm sure it'll be OK, but isn't it time for a bit of an aesthetic shift in games?
  17. Hell Kitty wins, close the thread now.
  18. Isn't it ironic, that in areas where UN peace keepers are deployed, the incidences of genocide, civil war and terrorism seem to go up? OTOH, a short war (although brutal and nasty) usually has a winner and a loser and a peace conference and reparations. The UN prolong the agony so that the bleeding hearts can sleep soundly at night.
  19. I don't suppose you care what a nasty little person this post makes you sound like?
  20. It would be more fun in an Aliens CRPG. Obviously, with you as the Alien. :: Cue face-sucker & stomach bursting mini-games ::
  21. Presumably this is all out there on the Google cache. IIRC the landsknecht, inspired by the Germanic C 16th mercenaries of the same name, was a two-handed specialist who moved really slowly. I can't remember the others, but basically he started suggesting munchkin wet dream kits, and as Grom says some folks were smitten by them. It might not have been our finest hour but it was one of our most amusing.
  22. Oh, and nostalgia corner... I like IWD2. A lot. I know many didn't but hey, remember I'm the guy who liked SoZ. But funnily, I enjoyed the banter on the BIS forum during the dev cycle a helluva lot more, q.v. Sawyer's crazy kit suggestions, some of which I'm sure were good natured borderline trolling. Landsknecht, anybody?
  23. Agreed. Turkey is a fine nation with plenty to be proud about - the AK party are threatening that and seem to me to fly in the face of everything Ataturk stood for. Erdogan has tried to neuter the generals but I daresay a few of them might have 'gone fishing' and has a bit of a chat about how to preserve the secular tradition.
  24. IWD is the quintessence of old skool D&D goodness and sits right up there in my top 5 CRPGs of all time. As Gromnir points out, it's so well done that you forget the linearity because you are having fun. Loot, monsters, a discernible plot, great dungeons, lots of different combat encounters, fine art direction and some of the best PC game music ever. Honestly, I played it with HoW and TotL added on last year with the widescreen mod and it was still a perfectly good PC gaming experience. Folks here who haven't played it might want to give it a go.
