New IGN walkthrough video
Promethean replied to funcroc's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I think it would add a new dimension to some of the missions and to buying clothes. Like if you want an extra challenge. And it did look ridiculous that he was wearing a light shirt in weather that demands insulation. -
how can we be sure? we can't, of course. i for one am hoping that Avellone gets involved. but aside from that, look at my signature and ask yourself how hard it would be to improve upon that. Well yeah. But poorly translated PSX JRPGs have better dialogue then Beth games have managed so far.

We keep talking about how the game is gonna have great writing but the only thing of note the leader creative designer has done is Endwar. And its not like NWN 2 and SoZ had amazing dialogue and deep characters like MotB. How can we be sure F:NV will be up to snuff?

New IGN walkthrough video

Good points. At least if he has, say, a coat he could conceal a pistol but I think walking up to a guard with an assault rifle is asking for immediate attack. And I agree with your clothing statement. If you walk around in below freezing weather in summer clothes, it should have a detrimental effect -
I'd rather they do it Fallout 1 style and steer clear of real world firearms

Or, scientific reality does not necessarily suit "realism" or our feel of reality. Agreed. But then, huge swathes of reality are, to be quite honest, rather dull. I don't know about you, but Deluxe Ironing Challenge doesn't sound that great a game to me. As another (more relevant) example, the size of, say, Neverwinter in NWN2 is cartoonishly disproportionate to the size of a real city like that; but do we really need to see five-million wharfs and eighty-thousand tons of cargo while retaining the same level of content? Cuz that just sounds like a waste of... well, everything to me. Crates, for starters, but also less important things like time, money, assets and energy. Maybe but that makes me want to see a to scale gameworld actually made Maybe some day someone will do it as a gimmick

What I'm more concerned with is have some variety in the interior areas. Every building either had lots of catwalk or lots of greenish grey hallways, regardless of what type of factory it was or if the building was a school. Even places that could have looking different like the Capitol Building or the National Archives didnt.

After reading the sample for the DAO book, I dont know know if Gaider is really that great a writer or if DAO will really have great dialogue. He hasnt done anything of BG II's caliber since and only has a few bright spot like HK-47 (which Avellone did better), Jolee Bindo, Wild Flower (who was half ruined by that stupid made up language the two spirits talked in) and a handful of quests otherwise.

And like 5 years earlier

The Gothics are pretty damn good at establishing mood and atmosphere. Its definitely the one thing nobody has to worry about the game lacking.
-
There's a difference between hiring celebrities for their name and good, but not necessarily famous voice actors. Its why you take Grey DeLise and Crispin Freeman over Liam Neeson
-
Well I'm sure they want something to use that Onyx engine they got brewing. And a Song of Ice and Fire game would be boss. Especially if GRRM was actively involved, though I'd also like DwD to just come out already.
-
sadface How much of the dialogue was actually completed for the project?
-
They dont need to be well known. They just need to fit the character, actually project some semblance of emotion and not do weird pauses like whoever did Carth Onasi
-
I suppose they could get a Name if Bethsoft is willing to shell for one, but I'd expect seasoned character / voice / nerd legacy actors, if anything. Oblivion and Fallout 2 both had TNG actors in them, President Richardson (was that his name?) was voiced by Jeffrey Jones, the principal in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Malcolm McDowell was well used in F3. I don't remember any of Obsidz' other games having any real Names in them, just pro VAs. This is the case with AP. I'd expect that into the future. Pro VAs is money better spent IMO

We just finished going over why VATS is definitely not wonderful.
-
Harold was one of the worse parts of the game. I wanted to kill someone for writing that part and character assassination. Moira was just plain annoying. I like Eden, but he ending up being a poor man's Master
-
I cant wait. First Mafia had a great story
-
Kreia lied and told half truths all throughout KotOR II Lying is something that isnt done enough in story driven games. It can add a lot to the depth and dialogue
-
The RT shooting mechanics and the enemy behavior left much to be desired. Plus you took like 10% damage or something in VATS. Its was like a god mode. Also the fact that melee and unarmed character couldnt target certain body parts was disappointing. It would be nice if Luck was integrated more into VATS instead of just for crits. Things like jamming, bad bounces on grenades, duds, etc.
-
Not really. FO3 had a big world, filled with a vast nothingness of similar tunnels, corridors and caves. I rather it big smaller and more unique, and that they concentrate on gameplay fixes and writng. Also making better quests
-
I hope not. The larger the setting, the less time they have to work on things that really matter.
-
Right. Look at Anachronox on how to do serious and humorous at the same time. Also being able to play for all the families in New Reno was a disappointment. More decisions that mean something. Players dont need to be coddled. Something Beth doesnt seem to understand.
-
Yeah but I dont need it in my face, being playing like another leveling system. If a morality system must be implemented, I'm for it being invisible.

Nobody cares about AP...

Leave Torment as is. Its nice to play a game that more the like an interactive book than an interactive movie. I'd hate to see Torment with dynamic conversation camera shots like in ME. I would how ever like a new Planescape game. Other than WoD, I dont think there is another setting better made for deep, thought provoking dialogue and ideas.
