Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas
i mean this without a trace of facetiousness, but you should go and do a bit of reading at The Vault (Fallout Wiki). it's not the same as ruining something by reading the documents, but it gives you a pretty good idea of what was to be, and some extras we might see in the future (since i think we are quite likely to).

i only kept up with NMA during the development stages, i never read the documents. not because i don't care...but because the entire situation was far too depressing to me. should we hold a bet? because i bet you're wrong. just on a hunch. even the FO3 DLC's have bits of VB.

i hypothesized early on that if Avellone and Sawyer do indeed work together on this that they'd try to pack as much VB stuff in as possible, if for no other reason than the epic disappointment they must have felt after it was canceled.

and furthermore, since the Nameless One cannot remember himself at the beginning of the game...you have carte blanche to decide what type of person he is "this" time.

Fallout, B. I. the hate, the love
in before lock? also, about this: i've been having this argument since the beginning of time. i even saved a screen of a post so i didn't have to keep writing it up. [blues voice]wanna see it here it goes[/blues voice]

dunno. i'm kinda puzzled why you'd quote it at all since it was neither the point of the post as a stand-alone sentence or very important at all.

i've been going back and forth about this in my head. and what i've decided is similar to this: yeah. i agree, except i am really hoping that SPECIAL is given an overhaul and implemented with a more discerning eye. not to mention Sawyer's dislike of VATS, i'd assume he'd at least tweak SPECIAL or skills to interact with VATS to make it less of a cheat/easy-out. but yes, the game will look the same. same crappy character animations, same low-res textures, etc. let's just hope other than a new "expansion" with a better story/dialogue we also get some better (or old-skool) role-playing. choices, consequences, rewards, punishments, creative character-building...you know, gee wally...kinda like FALLOUT. yep, yep and yep. also...you have the greatest avatar i've seen on a Fallout-related forum. Jim Woodring is a personal deity to me.

Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas
here's a question: will Bethesda allow Obsidian to change something as integral to their version of the game as V.A.T.S. (or really any other style of gameplay/mechanics) or are we basically just getting an Obsidian-made story as DLC?

i prefer bite-sized chunks. it's like, don't post like it's going to be your one and only post, y'know? christ. we only have one thread...take it easy. we have time.

Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas
hey! way to take the least significant part of that post, single it out, and ignore the actual point of the post! anyway, let's not get into a debate about what "role-playing" is. i couldn't think of a more common and less boring subject.

"sillyness"?? what's silly about it? even Leonard Cohen can make poetry of the groin-shot: "It's their ways to detain, their ways to disgrace, their knee in your balls and their fist in your face." it's human nature. the ultimate insult to the male physique.

and what the heck's wrong with that, exactly?

Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas
how can we be sure? we can't, of course. i for one am hoping that Avellone gets involved. but aside from that, look at my signature and ask yourself how hard it would be to improve upon that.

Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas
well, because it's role-playing and getting specific adds to the scenario. not only that, but the text-box descriptions of what happens to the enemy if you've targeted a certain area was a big part of what gave Fallout that "Fallout feel", knowhutimean?

a better bet in what way, exactly?

Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas
heh. i was thinking the same thing. i liked the way Arcanum and FO1&2 handled travel. it gave the impression of a vast wasteland (or land in general) without having to see it in front of your face. i agree that D.C. was a bit too covered in "terrain" and there should be more flatlands, but fast-travel with random/special encounters FTMFW i say.

of course there is. Billy West (one of the greatest voice actors of all time) often talks about this problem . that said, i still say that voice-acting is over-used in video games. Baldur's Gate II, imo, approached it well. use them for certain important bits, but not all the damn time.

VATS will most likely get a tweak. i just can't imagine Sawyer being completely ok with keeping it "as is" unless Bethie forces him into leaving it alone. though i do agree that the graphics engine and most other aspects of gameplay will remain unchanged. let me add two things which are much more important to that list. picture them, if you will, appearing before your #1. 1) A properly implemented SPECIAL 2) well written and conceived Dialogue

screw voice actors. that money is better spent elsewhere. if Bethie didn't spend all that cash on a lame duck like Liam Neeson they could have afforded one more "monkey with a typewriter" (Mr. Hines' words) and come up with dialogue which actually did the series justice. i mean...man, maybe it's because i'm old-school, but i don't even have the patience for voice acting. i read quicker than they speak and i just click past it all anyway. it's one of the worst and most overused areas of modern RPG's.
