  1. If people consider that an insult, they're being just as unreasonable IMO. More reasonable than being insulted by people wearing American flags on cinco de mayo. No, everyone is being stupid. I'd consider it just the same to be perfectly frank. It's just a flag. I'm reminded of an Eddie Izzard skit. "More reasonable" is comparative for a reason. If I meant to speak in absolutes, I would. I'd contend equally unreasonable. People put too much stock in flags. I doubt I'd blink an eye if I saw my country's flag below another on the same pole. The only way that that is insulting is if you ascribe an intent that someone did it to symbolize that one flag (i.e. what it represents) is superior. The same way that kids wearing an T-shirt is insulting because you ascribe an intent that they are doing it to disrespect your celebration. Assumptions are being made all around. Except one being placed below the other is arguably legitimate symbolism, whereas in the other case people are being offended by the flag of the country in which they are living. Neither is particularly reasonable, but arguing that they're equally unreasonable is just stupid.
  2. To be honest, when Gaider is at his best he write quite funny dialogues. It's when BioWare tries to be melodramatic that fails incredibly badly IMHO. Let's hope that kind of scene is executed better in Alpha Protocol. Agreed, though half of the problem with that line was the thoroughly awful delivery.
  3. Which is italian for 'Copyright buddy, and you're SO SCREWED'. They block youtube videos due to copyright in Italy? That's totally going to stop those pirates and make musicians so much money. I only listen to my music on youtube!

  6. Ok, that's definitely something you WON'T read on RPGWatch, but again, it's a quite widespread opinion. I remember a poster on Bethesda's forum complaining that yeah, Obsidian working on Fallout is good, but really, Bioware's dialogue are just higher-tier. Quite a few laughs there, but hey, you know the saying.. opinions are like... Truly high class dialogue:
  7. I think this looks totally sweet! And it's just a trailer on my crappy computer! Personally, if these graphics are considered crappy, then I guess I got to just admit that I have some low standards (edit for spelling flubz) These graphics are only considered crappy by people who post comments on GTTV videos. Hardly representative of the gaming population as a whole. Trust me I've read thing like 'Alpha Protocol graphics are terrible/crappy/****ty/ugly&dated' even on forums like RPGWatch (and of course, good ol' Codex). Trust me, graphic whorism is quite widespread (because, let's be honest, AP's graphics aren't top-notch.. but crappy??! really?!?). Perhaps, but GTTV commenters generally have nearly subhuman intelligence (or just really, really ****ty taste in video games). If I read one more "BioWare are the best RPG makers ever and their dialogue is brilliant" post I might gouge out my eyes with a spoon.
  8. Well, maybe some of the stuff by ARK comes close.

  10. Not a main weapon type. For the best, I think. No decent spy carries around a sniper to infiltrate a building in which he'll be shooting people at ~100yds.
  11. **** yeah, I'm going to see Fates Warning on June 4. Going to be awesome.
  12. DA's graphics were not at all better than what we have seen of AP. I played through the entire game on max settings, and it looked pretty similar (especially in terms of character faces).
  13. The dragon age screen is on low settings, though. Not that it matters, I played DA:O on max settings and I still think AP looks better than it did.
  14. If you want to have a fight over Katyn, go ahead and start one. This tiresome sniping impresses no one. We had a 'fight' over Katyn. You said it was an irrelevance. Of course, you also claim that the Ukrainian famine wasn't deliberate or a consequence of forced collectivisation. So I suppose Katyn must pale by comparison. You can't expect us to just gloss over your eagerness for bloodshed. Discuss this in the thread about it. It's irrelevant to the current discussion, and that was still a strawman (and a pretty bad one at that).
  15. "the Mexicans" what the **** is this? seriously tho what am i looking at. it looks like we have someone who doesn't like it when immigrants march for their rights and for the expansion of legal immigration, but just "loves" the "Mexican culture" that she (?) grew up "surrounded by." lmao @ the idea that the recent anti-SB1070 protests are about hispanic supremacism. wtf? Shush you, you do not believe in any nation-state or culture to begin with. It is time for you to have a discussion with the management about the state of things. With people like you in command, situations like these wouldn't been an issue. In your worker's paradise utopia they would've all burned their respective flags, hanged the school principal, all while singing the internationale. Then they would've gone off building some tractors or something. Blatant strawmanning doesn't make you look good.
  16. Holy Mother - Live to Die Great NWOBHM-inspired US power metal. Oh yeah, and Randy Coven on bass.

To be honest, I don't think that's what she (?) was referring to.
  18. How do you "inconvenience" the unreasonable group unless you wait for them to act on their unreasonable position? Answer this question understanding that allowing the students to act (ie fighting) when there could have been a way to prevent the situation escalating is pretty much asking for the school board to fire you (or at least reassign you to a lower position). There were a lot better ways to deal with this situation than the administration did but allowing the groups to fight so you could suspend the fighters isn't really one of them, IMO. That's the thing - the action the school took was not in the interest of preventing a fight, it was in the interest of "respecting Mexican culture." Let me find the quote... To further my previous analogy, this would be akin to telling the person wearing gang attire to take it off because it's insensitive to those who are actually in the gang. If they had been pulled aside and asked to take off the clothes because they were risking an attack by unreasonable people, that would be somewhat reasonable (albeit indicative of a much larger problem).
  19. You shouldn't be able to use a flag to incite violence in that situation. Any violence is purely the fault of the people who are unreasonably offended by the American flag. This is akin to wearing gang attire when you're not a member of a gang and getting beaten up for it. Is it a stupid thing to do? Yes. Should it be punishable? No. The people who attack are the ones at fault.
  20. That is ridiculous. No, that is reasonable. What they were doing should not have been offensive to any reasonable person. Thus, the fault lies with the people who are offended by it. Whether or not they were intentionally trying to bait unreasonable people is irrelevant in that regard - what they were doing may have been irresponsible and detestable, but it was not worthy of punishment. At a certain point people need to learn that some people are jerks. Being a jerk is not a crime. Attacking someone for being a jerk is. Actually, in any school the provoker and the provoked would both technically be suspended. I mean hell, in my school I nearly strangled somebody because they were calling me an idiot (well, them and their six friends) for pulling down a politically charged poster. I told them several time to back off until finally I just snapped. Got popped in the face for my troubles but the guy who socked me got suspended, and the provokers got detention. Admittedly I was a bit of an exception given that I'd spent half a day in county mental health that year, but even in the law there is a defense for provocation. And intent does matter, otherwise we wouldn't have different degrees of murder down to manslaughter. We'd just have murder. Also what you're claiming is contrary to everything I've ever seen in government and business. Or is it just the fault of the Offended when the situation deals with something "patriotic" rather than, say, A womans breasts or Dr. Manhattans Cheney? It's much easier to kick out five students for trying to be offensive, then suspend 60 for fighting them. When the only response they are inciting is an unreasonable one, they should not be punished. Being offended by an American flag in an American school is unreasonable.
  21. AP calc exam is a joke. AP chem exam is even more of a joke.

  23. Their intentions were irrelevant.
  24. If the Mexican students started a fight, the Mexican students should have been punished. People need to learn that you need to rise above such petty nonsense. If the school has reason to believe that a fight is going to start over object "A" and the school doesn't attempt to diffuse the tension over object "A" and a fight starts, then the school, arguably, has not done its part to provide a safe place for its students. Agreed it is petty nonsense, but dealing with kids and parents makes you realize that the modern kid and parent seem to THRIVE on petty nonsense. The cause of the fight is the overreaction, not the shirts. The group that is unreasonable is the group that should be inconvenienced to diffuse the situation. The simple fact is, if what they were doing was offensive, it's the fault of those who were offended. No reasonable person would give a **** about an American flag on someone's shirt in America.
