  1. If you aren't interested in what random internet posters have to say, why the hell are you here in the first place? I wrote that one shouldn't rely on their descriptions. There's an enormous amount of Dead Space gameplay footage at gametrailers.com, covering everything from audio design to backstory to zero-gravity gameplay.
  2. it is a mystery It's not too hard. I haven't done any writing marathons on them, but for basic tasks it's fine. My hands are a little above average in overall size and my fingers are relatively thin. If you have beastly hands, you may have trouble. That said, the HP 2133 mini-note has a 92% size keyboard.
  3. I just got a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and it owns. Netbooks are cool.
  4. Just watch gameplay footage instead of relying on text descriptions from random internet posters. http://www.gametrailers.com/game/5563.html
  5. The audio is a big part of the "scare factor". Playing it with a bad sound set-up makes it a lot less atmospheric/scary. Surprise!
  6. Will only play if I can regularly disembowel tauntauns and rest in their cadavers.
  7. It's only buffed up in the sense that it's a lot easier to use.
  8. Wandering monsters are only impossible to evade if you are a Noobasaurus Rex.
  9. I know this might sound crazy, but a game about an American intelligence operative operating on foreign soil is probably going to involve a CIA agent and should arguably involve something important to the United States!
  10. FSW isn't crap. It's executed very well for its purpose, which was a training aid for army squad leaders to understand suppression and flanking. It becomes very repetitive over time because of that reason, but it was fundamentally designed to hammer home that basic concept.
  11. Today my gimmick party (earth, air, and fire genasi bard party called Earth, Wind, and Fire) got owned. Hard. ECL characters definitely have it rough at the beginning. Starting a character down doesn't help, either. My replacement party, THE KILLERS, is doing much better. Human barbarian (Lord Murder), human swashbuckler (La Aguja), aasimar cleric (Bane's Stepdaughter), and a halfling warlock (Mistress Destructa). Booyah.
  12. Mass Effect's human heads could have been higher quality had they not been morphable. Building and rigging a customizable head generally lowers its quality compared to a one-off head. Also, there's the investment in technology. That's not a sacrifice as far as the player is concerned, but it does have a cost for the developer. I think character customization is often important in games, period -- RPG or otherwise. But I don't think it's always necessary or even desirable. It depends on the game, the setting, the story and a lot of other factors. As I wrote early in the thread, in Aliens I think that female characters are so important to the franchise that females should be the default for a player character.
  13. As a company, I believe our biggest weaknesses have been the following: * Games that are not fundamentally fun. That is, their core mechanics are not quickly enjoyable or do not have lasting value at a variety of difficulty levels. * Characters that are not visually appealing. This doesn't mean characters that are attractive, but certainly that's part of it. * Poor overall production values, polish, and stability. Not much to say here. I think we are realistically raising the bar on all of these issues on our next two titles, though obviously the proof is in the eating of the proverbial pudding.
  14. This is what a female SPARTAN looks like (Surprise! It looks the same as the males!)
  15. Female characters are so important to the Aliens franchise I would argue that they should be the default.
  16. Console piracy is rampant in many areas (southeast Asia, for instance), but not in the United States.
  17. Does Rob McGinnis support the burning of the Reichstag? Find out in this critique of an unrelated forum post.
  18. It won't be updated until there's really something worth showing.
  19. It's actually almost entirely upper body strikes to the torso, neck, arms, and head. Various closed fist, open hand, ridge hand, spear hand, elbow strikes, etc. There are a few kicks in there, but they are not common.
  20. I have made some very small amounts of progress on it, and do have some folks helping out with content creation, but I am still waiting for SoZ retail to come out.
  21. That's a legitimate way to play the game, but a lot of people specifically avoid using their guns because they enjoy the challenge (and reward) of "accidents" and otherwise silent/untraceable deaths.
  22. Does anyone here still think that if adults choose to not discuss sexuality, adolescents will be unable to figure out one of humanity's most primal and instinctive drives? I've never seen any data that correlates sex ed programs with teen pregnancy rates. Does anyone have any handy links?
