  1. Because there's never been a draught before global warming. Texas had a real bad draught for 7 years in the 50's. California would've been better off working on water projects instead of worrying about fantasy crap.
  2. WOD if you could chose to kick-out any states from the USA who would they be? The blue states in the map above, but mostly California and New York, that's where all the evil comes from. http://www.newgeography.com/content/005110-jerry-brown-s-insufferable-green-piety "These fans miss a big part of the reality. Outsiders think of California as a prosperous place that mints billionaires, but overall the state’s economic recovery has done little for many, if not most, state residents. Even with the boom in Silicon Valley, roughly one in three Californians live check to check, the state has higher rate of poverty than Mississippi, as well as one-third of the nation’s welfare recipients. Among the emerging Latino majority, a prime Brown constituency, the state’s cost-adjusted poverty rate is more than 33 percent, compared to just 22.7 percent in Texas, a state often derided as unenlightened and cruel." "Of course, there’s a long history of such bifurcated society, where people tend to stay in their class and the poor depend largely on handouts from their spiritual “betters.” It’s called feudalism." So may be KP was right about feudalism.
  3. Nah, they'll never let us go, they'll have the whole thing and still have it their way.
  4. Hence my proposal to separate US into a blue part and a red part. The blue part could then go on to implement whatever version of Socialism they prefer, and leave us alone.
  5. I guess he figured out he couldn't just pull money out of his ass. Anyway I suspect he'll subvert any deal he's made.
  6. The relative value of currencies is only an indication of economic performance when it changes relatively rapidly. The pound is about where it always sits relative to the dollar, it's been as high as around 2:1 in the past. The poverty rate would have to be examined for its significance, certainly for historical reasons US has much larger underclass than European countries.
  7. Texas took care of that, but the real problem with any third party payer system is that consumer doesn't really care what anything costs. There are other problems with medicine too that don't allow a good free market approach.
  8. These idiots will destroy earth one of these days, I just know it: http://www.geekwire.com/2015/cern-lhc-large-hadron-collider-hits-1-pev-milestone-with-heavy-ions-doomsday-talk/
  9. Isn't KP supporting Bernie Sanders. Wasn't that guy against such measures? Also when did WoD say he was in favor of an all-seeing all-powerful government? I didn't. Strawman arguments are all the rage on this forum. I don't trust the government. That is why we have the Constitution which restricts the government to limited and enumerated powers. National security happens to be one of those legitimate powers. Sure the government will try to abuse whatever power you give it, that's why we have separation of powers to start with, and we have to be ever vigilant, but saying that does not mean we should just stop the government from perfoming its legitimate functions. The executive needs to be closely supervised by the Congress and the courts. Of course when you get a President as lawless as Obola it puts all our rights into danger, but elections have consequences, and we get the government we deserve. Quite a bit better in what way?
  10. Actually Ron Paul ran as the Libertarian party candidate for President. After he got the customary 1% of the vote, he went back to the Republican party so he could get his House seat back. Our healthcare is a clusterF because we were too dumb to not involve the government with healthcare, and too dumb to not just nationalize the whole thing once the government did get involved. What America should do is simply acknowledge that vast majority of us (not including myself) are not interested in a capitalist healthcare system, drop the pretense and just nationalize it. Socialism is better than the confused mess that is the capitalist/government hybrid. No thanks, I don't want to deal with the government any more than necessary. Although instead of Obolacare, which seems to now be collapsing just as I predicted, they could've let people buy into Medicare, and subsidize those who couldn't afford it.
  11. I guess it's relevant to post this again : http://nationalinterest.org/article/spenglers-ominous-prophecy-7878?page=show Edit: never mind, it's behind a paywall now. It's still available here : http://www.douban.com/note/480407943/ I hope he was wrong, but I'm afraid he might have been right.
  12. Sorry, no. It's part of my identity. Besides there's nothing else that matches my tag better. I've just changed my sig though, so I'm not completely against progress.
  13. Again, President can not declare war or be given authority by Congress to declare war, only Congress can declare war. Geneva conventions are not binding on illegal combatants, don't invent things which aren't there. The court decision you refer to (which I already mentioned) does give them access to appeal to the courts, but not Habeas Corpus or the right to a trial. What you're claiming is that illegal combatants have to be treated better than legal combatants, which is ridiculous.
  14. Illegal enemy combatants are not covered by the Geneva Conventions, at least by none that we've signed. Only legal soldiers of another state that also signed the Geneva Conventions would be covered. Look it up. And Geneva conventions actually do allow you to hold enemy prisoners for as long as the war continues, so you're actually arguing against your own point, although I'm not sure what your point is. In fact you're wrong, we're not legally in a state of war, only Congress can declare war and it hasn't done so.
  15. They captured them on the battlefield. I also trust the government to actually shoot the people that are shooting at them. The courts ordered that there has to be a review and appeals process in case someone is unjustly held btw.
  16. Beats them going back to kill some more Americans, doesn't it?
  17. Here's an interesting article about Cruz: https://www.yahoo.com/politics/ted-cruz-has-been-plotting-1305876417003574.html The part about his private practice is nonsense though, a lawyer has to be able to represent any client that wants to hire him.
  18. Europeans just need to stop being such bleeding-heart pussies.
  19. lol, do you think I'm talking about illegal aliens? They're illegal because they were not fighting for a recognized state, but instead for terrorist organizations. That's not how laws work, it doesn't matter what you want. They're not held for punishment, they're held because they're likely to take up arms against US if released, just like any prisoner of war.
  20. Habeas Corpus doesn't apply to enemy combatants, especially illegal ones. You may be aware that German prisoners of war were held for the duration of the war without any trial. The opposing party did not block trials for the Gitmo detainees. Obola started out by tearing down the legal structure which was set up by Bush and Congress for such trials, then his gang of incompetent loonies couldn't come up with anything that would be legal.
  21. American foreign policy explained : http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/2015/11/obama-wants-to-defeat-america-not-isis.html
  22. I looked at it and the graphics, which may be intentionally retro, made me not get it at first. Then Vince at Iron Tower said it's a work of genius, so I bought it, and once you get into it the graphics stop being an issue, you become absorbed in the usual RPG concerns, like making it through the next assignment without having your ass handed to you.
  23. He stopped telling the truth since he started running for office, which is to be expected as you've observed. He's never changed his own label or said he changed his philosophy in any way so far as I know. I tend to take him at his word, being a radical from young age, having studied Marx and idolized Eugene V Debs he would know what socialism actually is, so if he says he's a socialist, he is a socialist. As far as Social Democrat, from what I read there are two types, ones who believe in regulated and redistributive capitalism and ones who see that stage as a way point to true socialism. I can believe Sanders is the second type, but not the first.
  24. He also supports private businesses, which isn't very anti-capitalist. If you can find where he has come out in favor of worker control of production, I'll even give you co-ops for this, then you'll find a statement of him supporting socialism. It's a little hard to find his past statements, since the search results are dominated by his current lies, but I did find a few things: "From the 1988 dissertation of Steven Soifer, a professor of social work at the University of Memphis, who wrote about Sanders’ time as mayor of Burlington: “What being a socialist means is … that you hold out … a vision of society where poverty is absolutely unnecessary, where international relations are not based on greed … but on cooperation … where human beings can own the means of production and work together rather than having to work as semi-slaves to other people who can hire and fire.” Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2015/07/14-things-bernie-sanders-has-said-about-socialism-120265#ixzz3sC4V2mPG "He joined the Young People's Socialist League ("Yipsel"), an organization that advocated the "social ownership and democratic control of the means of production and distribution" but was explicitly anti-communist." ""I once asked him what he meant by calling himself a 'socialist,' and he referred to an article that was already a touchstone of mine, which was Albert Einstein's 'Why Socialism?'" says Sanders' friend Jim Rader. "I think that Bernie's basic idea of socialism was just about as simple as Einstein's formulation." (In short, according to Einstein, capitalism is a soul-sucking construct that corrodes society.)" http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2015/07/bernie-sanders-president-change-politics Hmm, I didn't know Einstein was a socialist, I guess you can be smart and insane. "To wit: Sanders described himself as “clearly anti-capitalistic” in a 1976 interview with the Cynic, UVM's weekly student newspaper. “Contrast what the young people in China and Cuba are doing for themselves and for their country as compared to the young people in America,” he said. “It’s quite obvious why kids are going to turn to drugs to get the hell out of a disgusting system or sit in front of a TV set for 60 hours a week.” https://newrepublic.com/article/122309/bernie-sanders-archive-bustling-mysterious-young-men He's also said many times his idol is Eugene V Debs, and that's as real socialist as you can get. North Korea says they're a democratic republic, do you take them at their word? Obama says he's pro-freedom, do you take him at his word? Based upon his proposals Bernie Sanders is a Social Democrat, he critiques capitalism from a socialist viewpoint, but does not put forward an alternative to capitalism instead advocating reforms. So at least we both agree he's a liar.
