  1. Well, the other games already desensitized gamers enough to where it's now acceptable to play a terrorist, which would be unthinkable a decade ago. No, I don't think it'll turn gamers into terrorists, but it does contribute to indifference to other people's suffering and to moral relativism when re-enacting the real murder of real people is acceptable to play for entertainment. I think the point there was if they're just criminals, they don't have any particular reason to kill you if you don't resist, whereas if they're terrorists, they probably are there to kill you. Feel free to use that in you next case.
  2. The next step for Bioware: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3176676 This may just be the most pathetic thing I've ever read.
  3. Postal wasn't a mainstream game by any stretch of the imagination, and the whole point of it was to be as offensive as possible. And I don't think anyone is saying players are like real terrorists, it's just the implications of playing a terrorist in a very realistic setting ripped from today's headlines, but I guess nothing is off limits anymore, I'm really not surprised.
  4. You still find it disturbing, since it's the first time it's done. So are you saying something being disturbing is a reason to put it into a video game?
  5. http://www.gamepolitics.com/2009/10/28/lea...-footage-shocks You get to play as a terrorist mowing down civilians in an airport, yay!
  6. I don't think it matters. May be he accidentaly locked himself in. May be you did it initially as a joke. The crime is not letting him out, not how he got there in the first place.
  7. I don't think there's anything sticky about it, unless you're putting yourself in danger, as Gorgon said. Edit: Let me change the scenario to make it more obvious. Let's say someone is locked in a small room where he'll suffocate unless you let him out. You choose to not let him out. You think that's not murder?
  8. I'd just rather relax and go at my own pace and take a year if I want to. I don't need a game to feel like a finals exam.
  9. @Purkake Exactly. No, I only got 2 or 3 pieces, I have no idea where the other ones were. I got to stay and guard the place forever, but it was presented as some kind of reward.
  10. Do you really think it's that different from doing it himself? Carrying out justice is not a waste of money, it's the most important function the government has. It is entirely different. It is actually the definition of different. One is an action, the other is inaction. I don't think it's morally different. If I have the opportunity to prevent someone from being killed, and I stand by and do nothing, then it's still murder. I'm not a lawyer, but I believe the law sees it the same way.

  12. Bleeding heart liberalism gone insane.
  13. Really? What is it? Mine was really boring.
  14. I don't mind episodic content, it's the model of first selling the bones then the meat separately I don't like. And let's face it, the DLC always costs a lot more per unit of content than a full game, which is why publishers like it so much. I understand the economics of the business give them a strong incentive to do that, but it doesn't mean I'm willing to play along. The only way I'll get paid DAO DLC is when it's all in one package and at a reduced price which I believe to be fair for the amount of content.
  15. Then why don't they sell me the whole game for $60? Obviously they're hoping to get a lot more. How do you make a compelling game out of all these separate pieces anyway? Regardless, it's coming: http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features...iz=1&page=3
  16. I play extremely slow, so any kind of a timer is a big problem for me. I actually had the Spirit Meter disabled most of the time.
  17. MotB is more mediocre than the OC. The story is written well, but promises a lot more than it delivers. The plot is basically just advancing through portals, The quests are uninteresting and mostly filler, there are tons of boring filler combat, there are a couple of good dialogs and that's about it. I realize I'm being a little unfair since I only played the good path, while it appears the evil one was a lot better.
  18. Pay $10 for a bare bones game that's only designed to be a vehicle for further marketing? No thanks.
  19. To misquote Hemingway, a writer needs to know a lot more about his subject than he puts on paper. Also my impression is DAO setting has a lot of detail which will not be in the game, but may be in the Codex if you care to read it. Edit: And there will be a lot of things which are ambiguous, such as where did Darkspawn come from, does the Maker exist, and is the legend of Andraste true?
  20. A couple of days ago they bombed an Islamic girls' school. Do they really need demonizing?

  22. I don't know about gold, that probably depends on how much of a mess US becomes, but I expect oil to stay up, as China and India have been ramping up consumption.
  23. C&C shouldn't be "I did what I thought my character would do, now I can't finish the game so I have to restart" The ones in the camp are lower level, so you do take a hit. Everything is a compromise, the question is what's more optimal?
  24. More expensive and don't have any games to play. Obviously a win.
  25. Just because something happened before is no guarantee it'll happen again. Depends how much you're counting on your money still being there in 10 years. Even at 7% it'll double, of course that's not counting inflation and taxes. If you want more risk, probably a diversified international mutual fund is a good bet, overweighted in China. Personally I wouldn't invest in US economy until the budgetary mess is under control, if it ever will be.
