  1. Laws are supposed to protect individuals from mobs too you know, it's not always majority rules.
  2. It's really a result of the control scheme. There's no way to give move orders to all 4 of your party members at the same time (since the Left Stick is used to move). The tactical abilities with the mouse are limited, though perhaps it still would have been useful from a visual standpoint, I don't know if it would have worked as well with the Radial Targeting menu of the console. But yes, PC reigns supreme!! The Left Stick should've been used to control the cursor in overhead view, so you could do click to move, which is what's needed to control the entire party. The official reason Bio gave was that the consoles don't have enough memory to support the zoomed out view (which is weird now that I think of it, doesn't the entire 3-D area have to be in memory anyway?)
  3. The patent system is so abused and broken now it would just be better to get rid of it entirely, all it does is let a few parasites blackmail and stifle innovators. The copyright law though works exactly like it should, I don't see any question of fairness or ethics, just because a large segment of the population is willing to violate the law doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the law itself.
  4. That, I just can't understand that decision. Plus if they had an action queue, they could let you autopause on action queue going empty, saving you all that random pausing every 2 sec. The official answer from Laidlaw was to use the AI scripts instead, if I understood him correctly.
  5. So because of this discussion, I was just watching a National Geographic show about pot. They said it's claimed that it can lead to depression, memory loss and reduced performance on the job and in school.
  6. Games might have more of an effect on someone who's already unstable/maladjusted than on a normal person.
  7. He's talking about lead gen type offers, which tend to be scams, not straight cash for game currency exchanges, which he said are fine at the very start. The examples given are of the lead gen type offers.
  8. 1up has a pretty good review. This is a funny line: Yes, and a thousand times in real history. Also says you need a rogue in your party, and compares console and PC versions. Surprise: console loses big!
  9. http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/10/31/scamv...system-of-hell/ from RockPaperShotgun. Very interesting to find out how this stuff works, I've seen a lot of those ads even without the social networks.
  10. I know you're joking, but I'm pretty sure I'm older than you are. *Coughing with laughter* I hope for your sake that you're not. It's a common affliction, not much I can do about it. Mushrooms are really good fried with potatoes, yummy. Why anyone would intentionally eat poisonous ones is beyond me.
  11. You can't just deconstruct a game and say it's just pixels, any more than you can say a movie is just make-believe or a book is just characters on paper. You have to consider what the message of the game is and how likely it is to be absorbed by someone. Edit: Is Saw a violent movie? In that case why can't a game be violent? And no, it's not an abstraction if you show everything in realistic true-to-life detail, it's a representation.
  12. So we're going to be maintaining dictators in power through the use of force? Kind of the opposite of what we always professed, isn't it?
  13. I know you're joking, but I'm pretty sure I'm older than you are. As far as being legalized for medical use in US, that's really just a back door way of legalizing it in a few states. It's still illegal under the Federal law, which takes precedence. It may be available in pill form legally by prescription, I've heard that but I'm not sure. Certainly FDA wouldn't approve a medication that's delivered by smoking and has no dosage, since it obviously damages the lungs.
  14. If there were really credible studies that cannabis is an effective treatment for medical conditions, it would be available for prescription in fixed dosages just like every other controlled substance that's illegal without a prescription.
  15. You can steal someone's work or ideas too.
  16. My point is alcohol might be good for the heart, not everything is about your precious weed. And how does supposed treatment of diseases justify the use of a drug by perfectly healthy people? Quite powerful and addictive narcotics are available for prescription when justified by the medical condition.
  17. Did you just step out of a time machine from the 50's? There are dozens of scientific studies on nicotine and they all say the same thing, it is insanely addicting. True story. Here is a link: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4753 Is insanely addicting a scientific term? All I know is people can quit smoking without any kind of rehab, and anecdottally people have just as much trouble not overeating as quitting smoking. @alanschu : tannins are good, but apparently small amounts of alcohol also are good for cardiovascular system as it expands blood vessels. It's not recommended to start drinking for that reason though.
  18. Right, but now we have to back the guy who stole the election while complaining that the same thing happened in Iran, not that Obama complained much.
  19. That's not true at all, I still have no idea whether I'll get ME2, though I'm leaning against.
  20. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091102/ap_on_...WZnaGFuZWxlY3Rp So now Karzai stealing the election is a good thing?
  21. Because cannabis has a lot of legitimate pros to it, cigarettes do not. I don't understand why you're even comparing the two, they have nothing in common besides that you can smoke both. What pros does cannabis have that tobacco doesn't? I'm comparing them because they're both mind altering drugs, and they're both normally smoked. @hurlshot : I don't think nicotine is insanely addicting. I don't think it's any more difficult to quit tobacco than it is to stop overeating.
  22. Why not, there's a campaign to stop the use of tobacco, eventually they'd probably like to make it illegal, yet we're trying to legalize pot at the same time.
  23. I think the real reason for no demo is demos dissuade as many people as they persuade, especially it's tough to demo an RPG effectively. That's why you see demos come out some time after the game, they want people who were already planning to buy to buy first, then get the ones who are wavering.
  24. I should probably find out myself, but I'm lazy, do you know if it works well under Vista/Windows 7? Also is there any point to wait for the mod to be released or is Beta good enough?
  25. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is alcohol isn't necessarily used to get drunk. It's actually considered a good thing to have a glass of wine with dinner, in fact it's beneficial. I personally don't believe in mood enhancing chemicals, whatever they might be. I don't see how you won't eventually come to rely on them as a crutch, even assuming no long term effect from moderate use. Even if that's not the case, I don't see how inhaling all that smoke can be good for the lungs.
