  1. Yeah those are the ones. The plugs have two plastic sides that kind of widen when you punch them in? Well the plastic things are bent out of shape on the other side of the heatsink. I can't get the plugs in the holes anymore. I tried to bend them back so they would get in there but couldn't. There doesn't seem to be any damage on the CPU or the cradle it's in. It's only the plastic plugs that have any external damage. What sucks is that my case is kind of smallish so I can't really get my hands in there to put the heatsink back on. I'd have to disassemble the whole thing to get enough room to try and force the bent heatsink back in place, and I'd rather not have to force anything when it comes to delicate electronics.
  2. IIRC my mobo has four holes around the CPU, so it's the heatsinks fixtures that bent. I distinctly remember it being a pain in the ass to set up. It's two of the little plastic thingies that fit into the mobos holes that are bent out of shape (lol). I wish I had a camera so I could take pictures
  3. Well I booted once without the heatsink, it went to the OS, no error messages. Once in XP, after about 15 seconds the computer turned off, most likely due to the CPU overheating. There seems to be no external damage on the CPU, mobo or any other parts. Would booting up without a heatsink risk the processor cracking or breaking due to overheating? I really hope the hard drives aren't damaged, I've got a lot of stuff that I haven't backed up.
  4. That's pretty strange. How big was the speed bump? Either the heat sink wasn't properly installed or your PC took a really powerful hit. Were the mobo and CPU damaged in any way? Anyway, if the only problem is the heatsink, replacing it should be easy. Yeah it's a weird thing but seems like nothing else is broken. I actually only realised what had happened after I put the computer on and it shut itself off after 30 seconds (thanks sis for not telling me you lost your grip...). I hope the CPU and mobo are alright, they don't seem to be broken and the computer went on as normal. I'm gonna look into it more tonight when I get home, gonna have to check my CPU brand and mobo model so I can look for a replacement heatsink. Thankfully they don't cost a lot, 50
  5. So as I was moving to a new apartment yesterday, I hit a speed bump a bit too fast and my sis who was in charge of keeping my computer safe ****ed up and now my computer is broken. Apparently the heatsink busted out of it's place, and the little plastic hooks it uses to stay in there bent so that it's useless now. My question is, can I just buy a new heatsink, apply the paste thing again and go on as normal? Also are heatsinks designed for mobos or processors in mind? I can't remember if my old heatsink came with the processor, mobo or if I bought it separately. It's big as hell though so for ease of installing and so that I won't have to disassemble the whole god damn thing to get it in i'd really like a smaller one this time. What do you guys recommend? I can't remember if I've got Intel or AMD, I think Intel but I'm not sure. I'll check when I get home.
  6. and workers can't sue? in a communist society they cannot. the whole point is that companies do NOT intentionally "mistreat" their workers since that would ultimately lead to a lack of workers. you think they do, but cannot offer up any proof of widespread mistreatment. it fits your ideology, therefore it must be true? taks heh, i could link you to a ton of articles (nestle, finnish paper companies, shell, diamonds in africa, banana companies etc. etc.) about big business intentionally mistreating their workers, who by the way cannot sue because the countries they live in don't have a working justice system, because they can make more profits by treating their sweat shop workers like poo and because the price of a human life in the 3rd world is less than what you spend a week for groceries. also big business often mistreats its workers in countries that have a working justice system when they think they can get away with it (firing people for joining a union, paying less than the minimum wage, hiring illegals so they dont have to pay extra costs and less wages etc.). there has been many big scandals in finland lately, and i'm sure this is even more widespread in the us. often the workers do sue, but only if they get enough people to sue. a single person cannot sue a big company because the company can to spend millions on on the trial and often just get the case to get postponed so many times that the claimant just gives up due to lack of funds. this thread is honestly hilarious, not once have i said anything positive about communism on these boards yet you people spout all this nonsense about me being a commie. also your view of communism (or moderate socialism, or even centrism) is woefully inaccurate, based on the propaganda i'm sure your head gets filled with since childhood. you're life LoF, only the other side of the coin. i realise that you feel anger towards me taks, since i've pointed out the many inaccurasies and outright stupidities you've posted, but could you please refrain from childish namecalling? i'm sure it's against the board rules anyway.
  7. what, you don't believe in supply and demand? even socialists understand that one, they just think they can thwart it. never did figure you as a bright one, however. taks yeah, big business never mistreats its workers...supply and demand.
  8. yes and no. it was really only about money, and all the [sarc]poor, starving, damaged by CO2[/sarc] developing nations were simply asking for money. maybe because of the climategate scandal, or maybe just because it was so blatant, this was quite out in the open. developed countries were not going to be able to get their people to sign on to what was obvious as a transfer of wealth to countries that are by and large ruled by dictators. guess some of us are smart enough to realize that maybe the dictators are the problem, not the west's "pollution." lip service. ding, ding, ding! and a lightbulb went on. "let's hold them all hostage while we build up OUR economies {and generate even more pollution than they did} then take over the world economy!" forest, trees. taks all i see is blah blah blah hands of my filthy lucre! free market!
  9. I don't doubt for a second that China, India & the rest of the developing countries weren't behind the lackluster result of the conference. In the end only the EU was for cutting down CO2 emissions, the rest of the world wanted to keep their precious SUV's. Guess I can't blame China or India though, they're only catching up to the west and all of a sudden we say that we've used up all the pollution the world can handle.
  10. caught a kid watching porn on the library computer
  11. I have the 8 gb version. The only problem with it is that you have to install some drivers to be abled to add or remove music, so you can't just plug it in and drag and drop on any computer. Drag & drop works though, after you've installed the drivers. Depending on which model of Ipod you have, you can always install the custom firmware Rockbox. It adds drag & drop function, removes iTunes of the equation and gives you a buttload of different configuration options, from the GUI to the font used. I really wish they'd make a Zen version of it Oh and iPods are damn good players, their only issue is the high price and the diabolic firmware and copy protection.
  12. Lemme know how it is, might have to cave in and buy another gift for myself. I've already spent over 1k
  13. Would it be impossible to mod the whole main quest thing out of the game? Just take all the interesting parts and kind of strip them of the main quest stuff, like references to your daddy or Vault 13? That would make the game so much better.
  14. which is silly. in order to make money, you need those workers. in fact, you need better workers than your competition. it does not make economic sense to kill your workers, nor intentionally sacrifice their health. contrary to your opinion, labor is not unlimited. it follows the law of supply and demand just as products do. duh. taks hahahahahahahahaha....ahem.
  15. You haven't kept up on the health care bill progression, have you? Are you implying most of US citizens don't want the reform? Cos I think they do, they voted Obama in office and it was a known fact back then that he'd reform the health care system some way.
  16. hey hiro you crippled bastard get out of the thread man you're killing my avatar buzz with your sob stories

    Books

I actually read a translated version found from our summercabin, the place is filed with old books, no one knows where most of them are from. It was even less interesting in half-translated finnish.

I read this in the summer but skipped most of the technical parts. Even read that way I really enjoyed it
  19. I disagree, I really wouldn't buy any cheapo **** brand. My old Ipod lasted for 4 years before it died due to a power surge from a faulty stereo. I expect my Zen to last at least that long, unless the battery dies. Cheapo brands will last up to a year and then die. You'll save money in the long run if you buy a higher q. player.
  20. I don't think we have any examples of true communism, except maybe on a really small scale in africa.
  21. i don't get it, finland is on the top 10 of all ways we use to measure wealth and success, be it education, wealth or corruption, and this guy tells me we've messed up and that our system doesn't work? dunno what he's been smoking.
  22. Creative Zen. Have had it for 4 months now and it's really good. Not as slick as an ipod, but well worth the price.
  23. the vast majority of finns want to keep our social security as it is. so i guess i'm not the only one who doesn't think of it as theft? yes, and they also benefit from it a lot. it's a fair trade-off and most people here seem to agree with me. i don't live in a socialist country. actually the conservatives and the liberals are in charge now, social democrats are the smallest of our three BIG parties. naturally we have lots of smaller parties like the communists, the greens and the racists but they're small enough not to matter much. greens have been getting more and more voters lately though. we have the highest living standards (at least at the moment, recession might change things) of the world. i dont think you're fit to criticize finland
  24. you have a strange understanding of what "freedom" means. what about those that are actually paying for your freedom? are they as "free" as you when the state is taking their income to pay for it? taks i don't see how they're any less free. money isn't everything. besides, they don't have to pay for education or health care either. we've got plenty of poor people don't worry
