It could hardly be called the "Knights" of the Old Republic if you couldn't.

Good idea - I will wait until the release of Core i7 if I do decide to go for a desktop. If I settle on a notebook I will not wait for it, since Nehalem is not going to make it to notebooks till late 2009.

Hmm, I suppose it could be a single-player/MMO hybrid, where you have a single player campaign like in the previous KOTOR titles, but it becomes an MMO if you want to join an online persistent community... yeah, I know... I am trying to hold onto straws here to get the single-player KOTOR 3 experience... but hope dies last!

Agreed - the WoW phenomenon is a spectacular financial success, but it cannot go on forever. Eventually, it will peak and start declining. At some point Blizzard will come up with a new MMO to replace it, but it is by no means guaranteed that this will be as successful as WoW - I guess what I am trying to say, that the MMO field will be more open at some point in the future... and perhaps at the point when the KOTOR MMO is released.

That is very useful, thanks! To be honest, though, I have no clue whether I will need eSATA or Firewire (I guess that means I probably won't need it). The case and the PSU look great. As to the mother board, I read the Newegg reviews and it seems that it is potentially good, but has serious BIOS problems. It would probably be better to get a different one. Well, it's not so easy considering I have never built a computer before. I don't know many of the basics that I should know, such as for example, whether I need to buy a cooling fan for the CPU or if it's already included with the CPU (or perhaps with the case)... or even what kind of CPU would be suitable for a gaming computer.

I think explaining that stuff should be the least problem for the designers. I mean you're a super-duper-augumentated "mutant", so it's like you're a super-hero from a Comic. I just hope they don't go too far with that, because one thing that DX really made so great was that it still stood on both feed on the realism-rug, so to speak. I agree that it wouldn't be a problem for them to explain it, especially within the context of Deus Ex, but I would nonetheless like them to explain it, rather than just have it in the game, but leave it unexplained. As I said, I don't really know what gameplay approach I prefer in this regard.

I am undecided on the autohealing issue. I can see both pros and cons in the system. If they do have autohealing, however, I do hope that it is explained away by some kind of biomod the character has implanted from the start and not just left as a gameplay feature without in-game explanation.

Long rant on RPGs and comments on Obsidian
Magister Lajciak replied to RPGmasterBoo's topic in Obsidian General
BG3 rumors have persisted for years... At least it would be unrelated, I wouldnt like to see a real sequel, that story is done and it has played its part.... But I dont see the point of using the game's name anymore, a lot of time has passed and the older games who know what BG is about wont be fooled by the use of the name, while the newer gamers are just likely to be confused... Well, BG3 rumors have been here before, but they do seem credible this time, coming from CVG. -
Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Discussion

Will there be a swashbuckler joinable companion in the Storm of Zehir? I would like to have a swashbuckler cohort. -
Fallout 3 system requirements?

Good point on the mods... -
I forgot to mention that the computer absolutely must have LAN/Wireless LAN support. Note: It might also be possible to get an already functional gaming desktop computer, but I think by building it myself I could get a better price, no?

Fallout 3 system requirements?
Magister Lajciak replied to Magister Lajciak's topic in Computer and Console
unless you've got a state of the art PC with the latest graphic card, it's safe to say that FO3 will almost certainly work better on a console. I doubt F3 will be such a demanding beast on the PC. We're not talking about some Crysis here. The leading platform was the 360, and the PC version will just be the same with some higher res textures. Experience shows that games made mainly for the 360 tend to run very smoothly on "good" PCs. Uh huh, so it's a matter of 360 or PC... So the arguement comes down to controls ya know? I mean I'm a mouse and keyboard man, but Oblivion felt like the PC controls were hacked on. Haha, we posted on the same topic nearly simultaneously! -

I think this is an issue of controls for some people. Some prefer the PC controls, while others favor console controls. -
I think we are agreed on the KOTOR MMO potential than, we are just approaching the issue from different angles.

Fallout 3 system requirements?
Magister Lajciak replied to Magister Lajciak's topic in Computer and Console
Hmm, the release of the game is really close now, so they must know the specs by now. It is just likely they forgot to update their website. Well, I hope I can run it on my system, if not I will have to wait to buy the game until I get a new one. I'm sure they have a general sense of what is needed to run it at various degrees of detail, but until thay have finished optimizing and tweaking performance I can understand that they would be relucatant to say anything. The game is 23 days from being released, so I would imagine they are already producing their Gold Master disc and cannot really do much more tweaking. Even if they are still tweaking, though, they have to finish really soon, so they won't be able to change the requirements substantially by now. -
Fallout 3 system requirements?

I might. It could also be that I might get my new computer before Fallout 3 is even released... but it could also be that this only happens in 2009... -
Look, I don't know how large the KOTOR fanbase is, but it's certainly not WOW like size. Just let's be realistic. And being a Star Wars game alone doesn't mean nothing. Star Wars Galaxies, after all, was an utter failure. But as I said, Bioware knows how to make successful and enjoyable games, so that should be the main driving factor why people should get excited. Star Wars + Kotor just means people get easier attention to it, and don't need to be convinced about a new setting etc. Well, I am also assuming that BioWare makes the game compelling for those who like MMOs and will thus attract more of the Star Wars fanbase than the KOTOR titles did... Don't get me wrong - I am not saying it will reach WoW style levels of popularity, but it is the only current franchise that I can even imagine doing that.

In that case, I hope I get lucky. I cannot do that, as my computer is a notebook. That said, I am planning on getting a computer in a not too distant future, so I will be able to run Fallout 3 eventually for sure, but I would still hope to be able to run it immediately upon its release. -
Well, WoW is the 800 pound gorilla, but if any franchise has the chance of having a similar appeal it is Star Wars and especially KOTOR. Of course, it is far from certain that it will reach that level of profitability, but it has huge earnings potential. The fact that I will not be buying it or playing it or that I would far prefer KOTOR 3 was made is, of course, another matter.

New Laptop - Which One Is Better?
Magister Lajciak replied to Magister Lajciak's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
I have created a new thread on the desktop. Here is the link: http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showtopic=50843 -
I have a thread running on a laptop I should get (http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showtopic=50758), but thinking about it more, I have become open to the possibility of building my own desktop machine instead. The price would surely be much cheaper and the gaming capabilities would be much better. Well, the fact that I move relatively frequently is a damper, but perhaps I could manage it somehow. The loss of occassional mobility when not moving, but merely when I want to take my computer with me somewhere would be annoying, of course, but still... the prices are supposedly substantially better for desktop PCs. I am still undecided on whether to get a notebook or a desktop, but I have at least begun considering the latter as a possibility. I have never built a computer on my own from its component parts before, but from what I hear it is not that hard. There might even be some online guides to help me along if I decide to go that route. However, I do not know of any reputable websites where I could order the components cheaply and wouldn't know what components to get anyway. Does anybody have any suggestions in this regard? Note 1: I don't have any hardware components for a desktop at all, not even a monitor, a keybor or a mouse. Note 2: I can get either Windows XP or Windows Vista in either 32 bit or 64 bit version for a very good price, so that should not factor into the price of the computer.

Fallout 3 system requirements?

I have never played Oblivion, so I cannot really compare it to that, but I would imagine I would be able to run it, though at really low settings.
