I would like to draw attention to another DRM-free game. It is called King's Bounty: The Legend Click Here
Not only is this game DRM-free, but it is also outright excellent! It is an old-school Strategy / RPG hybrid with turn-based combat. I am playing the demo and I am loving it so far!
I guess this is where some of my monies that would have been spent on EA Games' games with DDRM, such as Red Alert 3, will go instead.
King's Bounty: The Legend supposedly only uses a serial number as copy protection when downloaded from GamersGate: Click Here
The CD-version of the game does use SecuRom with CD-checks (but no online activation nor installation limits), but supposedly this too has been removed with patch 1.6 (Russian patch, but apparently works problem-free with the English language versions).
There is also a free demo of the game available for download here: Click Here

Interestingly enough, I have recently become much more reluctant to read Storm of Zehir previews/reviews due the the fear of story spoilers.
I have found myself in the same quandary. With the release date coming up I'm a bit impatient and want to know all I can, yet with some of the latest information there has been info I'd rather not know. I know if someone was to post a new interview link after this I would undoubtedly check it out.
Yeah, I don't want to read them, but I sometimes cannot resist either.
i found myself only looking on pictures in preview lately and the closing the page as fast as possible
Lol, I am trying to do the same - but sometimes I still catch bits and pieces of the text!
i have still not finnished MotB, stopped to play after SoZ was announced, so i am trying to do my best to avoid any spoilersMotB has an unrelated story to SoZ... and it is one of the best CRPG stories I have ever played. Don't feel constrained by the lack of SoZ from playing it - unless you want to play it with some new SoZ classes/races.

"Dated top-down contrivances"? I take issue with that.
I would too, but Fallout 3 looks great despite its FPS contrivance.

... TBH, I've never been bothered by DRM. Mostly because I play on consoles.
I guess this is one major advantage of console gaming over PC gaming. Your games never expire if the publisher pulls some server...
Don't worry, they'll fix this soon enough. Today's console disks provide copy-protection equivalent to the CD-key checks used in PC games thus far. Future console disks will only be playable on the first 3 unique consoles you first play the disk on. Once you "activate" a particular console, you can play the game on that console as many times as you wish, but if you want to play it on another console you will use up an activation. The idea is to limit second-hand sales (an ugly and downright criminal practice that is rampant in the console space), and to discourage you from lending your disk to your friend temporarily (another deplorable practice). These modifications will bring console DRM on par with today's PC DRM.
ROFL That's a good one!
They would also have to make sure, that if you by any chance change controllers or other hardware or otherwise upgrade the console, it can also use up an activation, but you can never know ahead of time - you have to try it first to see!
Hasn't happened yet, and haven't heard of any plans on that. So I have no idea where you got that idea.
And if it was sarcasm, whoopsies.
Yeah, that was sarcastic.

I don't like the limited reinstallation either. I've reinstalled Neverwinter 2 at least 5 times since I bought it. Would that put me over the limit with the Mass Effect DRM?
Yes, it would have. The limit on Mass Effect was 3 installs.

I think some online-only games might be affected by shut down servers, unless Xbox Live/PSN/Wii network takes care of that.
I am not a console gamer, so I was not aware that online-only games are also made for consoles. I thought it was a PC-only blight. Still, at least your single-player games are not infested with game-longevity killing DDRM.

Guys - where do you usually buy games? I have recently moved to the U.S. and cannot find any stores that sell games (well, I don't have a car at the moment...) + don't want to buy over the internet.
Best Buy (store locator link) is a major box store that sells games. You may also peruse your local mall for a Game Stop or the like.
Thanks!
No problem. You come here as a student or full time? Which state did you move to?
I came here from Slovakia to do my Ph.D. about one month ago. The state I moved to is Ohio.

I put the game on my Christmas list haha. So I'll be waiting for a while regardless.
Christmas is too far away! Succumb to the temptation!

There is a new developer's diary entry.
Not much new, but there's a fun picture:
Yep, good picture.
That's one unfortunately placed cattail.
! !
I didn't even notice until you pointed it out!

I just installed the demo and have tried playing the Knight + the Paladin. The game looks excellent so far!

You know what would be AWESOME? If the Fallout franchise was passed around like a french hooker.
Blizzard -> World of Fallout
Square Enix -> Final Fallout Fantasy
Even I didn't play Fallout 1 & 2. By the time I found out about these games (many years after they came out), they were not even on the shelves any more. I am looking forward to rectify that and enter the Fallout franchise with Fallout 3 though!

I am looking forward to this game, but have to wait for my new computer to arrive first.

Ah, after looking up the game on IGN, it seems as though it is Naga Sadow. Didn't get that impression from the main webpage
Revan could be posing as Naga Shadow.
-
Supposedly Stardock is working on a new DRM scheme that it hopes would satisfy both big publishers and customers, but it still plans to offer its games DRM free.
