  1. Absolutely. This is supposed to be an old-school computer role-playing game, not some next-gen cinematic interactive movie. Harumph!
  2. So you're not a fan of traditional heroic fantasy RPGs, got it. Will you still be pledging to help fund Project Eternity?
  3. I disagree. This is an adventure, and our party is on important business. We do not go wandering into a region without good reason. At the same time, this is a dangerous world, so we are not going to lay down our arms. If the local savages want to jump up and down and offer resistance, we will answer in kind. This is not to say the party goes in to commit atrocities the way you characterized. More often, the party is there to help. It is up the indigenous population to act civilized if they are not facing an overt threat from the party. Merely carrying weapons and wearing armor might be "aggressive", but it does not mean the locals are being threatened.
  4. Way back in Pool of Radiance, when the party of characters entered the lizardman village, they had the option to slaughter the tribe or learn more about the situation and resolve the quest differently. In the "countless" cRPGs I've played, the player is usually given a choice or else the monsters have attacked first and it is a matter of self-defense. I cannot recall ever approaching a situation such as described in the original post. Seems like there's a certain amount of projection going on. In these adventures, we play the good guys. Harumph!
  5. Just give us a GUI like the Storm of Zehir Party Editor menu. That's how I assemble a party. Harumph!
  6. I think there should be a dialogue upon clicking on a locked door, giving the player the option to Listen, or Bash, or let the thief try to Pick the lock. The party should also have dialogue options for how they choose to approach an encounter, whether to Parlay, Fight, or Flee. Harumph!
  7. Mega-dungeon populated with lots of levels, combat, traps and tricks and puzzles and such. With it's own internal storyline. Preferably built by an ancient race of dwarves. Yes and yes. Harumph!
  8. It's great to hear the attention given to enemy parties. These were some of the best battles in the Bladur's Gate saga, and the battle with the Lost Six in Icewind Dale 2 is legendary. Harumph!
  9. That is one female dwarf, from one cultural region in the proposed setting. Notice she is beardless, just how female dwarves are typically presented in fantasy cRPGs. Do we know what male dwarves look like, and the variations of the race, such has Hill and Mountain dwarves? Thread re-opened. Harumph! PS: No doubt she's an outcast, not a proper Dwarf.
  10. You realize that Tolkien's dwarves, in particular, were directly influenced by Norse mythology, yes? Where do you think the names from Thorin's company were derived from? Uhhhh, what are you talking about? Didn't I just write that? ^^ You said, "... dwarves from germanic/norse mythology are going to be included in the game." And then you say the developers are not going to copy Tolkien. You don't see the contradiction? Uh, no. Just because you have elves and dwarfs in a game does not automatically mean that you are using Tolkien's interpretation. You made the point to make a distinction, specifically referring to dwarves from germanic/norse mythology... which has a direct link to Tolkien's interpretation. Choose your words more carefully.

  13. Seems a lot of people are going to be disappointed when the Hobbit movie comes out in December. Even greater Tolkien influence will be felt in fantasy cRPG projects. Just as The Lord of the Rings had its impact on NWN2.
  14. I love how this poster feels so threatened. None of the joinable NPCs are ever forced upon the Player, which already diminishes their importance to the story. And this is what allows the possibility of fitting in a party of multiple custom characters. Heh.
  15. It'll get done. This is Obsidian the people who gave us Icewind Dale and Storm of Zehir. They know their roots. They are not bioware. It's only a question of do we do this the easy way or the hard way. Harumph!
  16. How soon before we can create our own party? Harumph!
  17. Birthday coming up in a couple weeks... can't wait to sink me teeth into this one! Harumph!
