Atari announces Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate
Starwars replied to Kelverin's topic in Computer and Console
The recent batch of previews mention that the release date will be sometime in June. From the previes it looks very good I think, I'll be buying it. -
Matthew Rorie and Rob McGinnis was interviewed at the Neverwinter Nights podcast released today: http://neverwinternightspodcast.com/ Check it out. Matthew sounds like a cool guy, and Rob is his quiet, subdued and mysterious self.

So, I think it's about time to bug Josh a bit again. Any progress, however little it may be?

To be honest, I was secretly hoping that he would thrash the hell out of the game, just so I could enjoy the sh*tstorm that would surely ensue afterwards. Still, surprisingly enough I think my views (I haven't actually played the game yet though) based on what people have reported so far will actually mirror Yahtzees in this case. I suspect I will also think the game is hella fun (like the other GTA games) when push comes to shove, but not particularly down the the path of where I want the GTA series to go.

Mark Morgan - Metallic Monks, The Brotherhood of Steel Possibly my favourite from the Fallout soundtracks. Just perfect, and chilling. The air-raid sirens and marching drums top it off beautifully. Hearing this always makes me want to replay Fallout.

The thing is random n00b, they have been convinced before by posts that contain actual arguments and have changed things in-game. Of course they want discussions on those elements as changing something takes time. So you can say that that they biased against such suggestions, but that doesn't ring true with their changes in the past. I seem to remember them changing the whole engine, and from what I can recall that was pretty much from community feedback. Pop, as far as I know you will never encounter 16 or 20 enemies in the game. Could be wrong, but I think they're shooting for smaller and deadlier battles (or no battles at all depending on your character). And no, I'm actually very much looking forward to the combat in this game, and the options it has to offer. Don't get me wrong, it will depend on the execution. But as someone who still enjoys turnbased combat, and Fallouts combat (though I do wish there were even more speed settings for the big fighs) I definetely think I will enjoy playing this game. I'm not sure if "It can't be any funner to play than to watch" was sarcasm or not, but I definetely hope that it was.

Well, they have a soundtrack made for the game. I'm not to fond of the battle track in the video, but the one in the previous vid was really good and the short snippets playing before entering combat was excellent as well. And yeah, I don't think sound effects were planned from the start but they are now. A good move as I also consider them to be quite important. EDIT: I can't say that I think combat has to look like what you describe Morgoth, though it can certainly enhance the dangerous aspect of the combat. Still, I admit it is of little consequence to me, especially in a turnbased game where I simply abstract myself from a lot of the "what real combat should look like" stuff. I do however somewhat agree with you on the combat vs music, and I personally am much more fond of the "standard area track playing even in combat" approach like in Fallout instead of having battle music, at least in turnbased games.

Exactly what part of the combat looks amateurish? I could also wish for better animations (though I admittedly don't care that much), but what is wrong about the actual system (what we see of it)? The Iron Tower guys don't mind harshness, they've subjected themselves to it by presenting their stuff to a critical audience in the first place (I dare anyone to read through the Let's Play! thread at their forums as it is now). But saying that something is amateurish doesn't say really anything. What exactly looks bad about it? Is it purely visually or the system itself? They've changed stuff based on community reactions before. Personally, I've grown to fear the big production value game, because they very rarely (if ever) deliver what I want from a game behind the fancy looks. Not to say that every such game is bad, but it's very rare that they stay with me or that I even finish them.
-
Xard, I'm pretty sure they're not planning to add voices. Morgoth, while I'm eager to see those RPGs unveiled as well, I suspect Age of Decadence will deliver something quite different. Something that some of us have been missing for years now. I for one am anticipating AoD way more than those 3. From what we've seen so far, I'm already sure AoD will be much more to my personal tastes than Alpha Protocol for example.

Tommy Emmanuel & Richard Smith - Serenade to Summertime One of the best summersongs there is, and beautifully played. Check it out.

I really liked the tone of the endings in STALKER. I actually really enjoyed the "bad endings", and thought they were fitting to the rather depressing gameworld of STALKER. What I think could be done better is provide more actual choices, instead of basing a lot of the endings on "stats". I seriously had no idea what was going on when I got the "I want to be rich" ending.

I'd also love for more roleplaying games set in different settings. Alien sounds like it has the potential to be quite intriguing. Alpha Protocl, well... I'm not that big on spy thrillers myself, but it could be fun to explore in a RPG. I'm mostly excited about it being a realworld adventure. I'd love for Obsidian to develop a super-serious (without the James Bond spythriller edge which I guess we'll see in Alpha Protocol) modern day RPG. I would also love a steampunk one, and why not a cyberpunk one? And again, about developing lower-budget games... I'd love for Obsidian to develop a "heavy" turnbased game. Think the combat of ToEE, but with a better campaign. I admit I'm slightly worried about the direction of the company. While I'm not gonna nag on Obsidian yet, I think Alpha Protocol seems like a try to reach a broader market. This makes sense from the companys standpoint, and I definetely think that the game has potential to be good but when one makes such a move I think it's inevitable to lose certain aspects and appeals that the hardcore RPG people (which I consider myself) appreciate. That's why I'd really love it if Obsidian started to develop more "hardcore RPGs" as well, with a lower budget if need be. In fact, Mask of the Betrayer felt in many ways like that, and indeed, I think expansion packs to NWN2 is a good vehicle for those types of games. But I hope they carry it on in the future as well.

What ending did you get? There are 7 different ones if I remember correctly. I'm still playing some NWN2 mods that I've missed previously. Currently playing A Secret in Stone, pretty good!

Something must have gone seriously wrong there with either installation or patching. I played through NWN2 and MotB recently with the 1.12 patch, and everything worked fine.

Cool NWN2 mods that are, uh... cool and stuff.

I haven't tried the Asylum mods yet (there are two I think so far), but they certainly seem unusual. I should play them. For anyone looking to try some different gameplay, Dark Waters 2 has a ton of custom stuff. While it's not my cup of tea, I'm pretty amazed at what the author managed to accomplish in the toolset. -
Silent Hill was pretty crappy in terms of story and acting, but they absolutely nailed the visual aspects of the game in the movie. That's probably my most favourite gamefilm thus far, even though I wouldn't call it good.

Doubleposting but meh. Finished Tomoachan and had a lot of fun with it! I'm not normally a fan P&P mods remade for singleplayer cRPGing, but with the authors changes this worked really well. And I must I still got that feel of old school P&P module playing despite his updates, and it made me miss my P&P group. The writing and stuff could've been tighter, but I definetely enjoyed this mod. Lots of fun. -
I am bitter, but that's not my problem with this music. The main theme is not a bad piece of music, but like CrashGirl said, not particularly evocative of anything Fallout. It makes me think of dark fantasy stuff. Megaton is generally in a direction I would like for Fallout, but it just sucks. The middle part is just cacophony, and painful to listen to. If Zur had kept it more toned down like the beginning of it, with less guitar/banjo/string slides all over the place it would've worked a lot better for me. Now it's flat out annoying to listen to. Into the Wasteland is not exactly the direction I would go for a "wasteland exploring" (if the track is that) piece, but I think it will work nice enough. I would've liked it to be a bit more electronic and threatening though, but I think it will work fine.

Culpa Innata was a really mixed bag for me. Some great ideas, but the execution was a bit off I think. I'm currently playing some NWN2 mods that I missed. Just started up Tomoachan.
