Sith Academy Secret room
refuse replied to GaspardDeadlyAssailant's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
If your Jedi is not that powerful and you don't have any decent crystals/items, a load of force ghosts with lightsabers can be overwhelming. -
It could be a number of things, so you should list your pc specs, like what gfx card, OS, ram, processor etc... Look at the sticky in this forum on how to do that. There is also a guide there of solutions to frequently encountered bugs and crashes.
-
Exactly. If you a 'no CD patch', you won't be able to get it run. Try with original CD and without that patch.
-
I've got a Dell D820 laptop that uses the very same graphics card, 1.8 GHz core duo, 1 GB of RAM etc and I don't have any major problems running either game (...apart from sith armours looking white instead of shiny, all blades looking semi-transparent at time and having to lower game specs for certain areas). I did, however, experience the 'black-out' hang after the intro movie for TSL when I installed the game with a no-cd 'patch' and used a mounted .iso copy of my play disc with daemon tools (original was too scratched). It worked fine when I reinstalled and got a new play CD. Make sure you turn off all such apps, maybe it's something in the background that's causing the mess.

As far as I know there is no widescreen patch for TSL readily available, although I vaguely remember seeing something for KotOR. I do believe it was somewhat flawed though (like messing up the minimap or something), so it didn't seem like a good thing to download (I have same resolution laptop). Have a look at filefront, maybe something new has popped up recently, but other than that, it looks like it's black borders I'm afraid...

That remains to be seen, as far as I'm concerned. The fact that you can find it with MINIMUM effort through Google means that even if it is 'non-legal' to acquire, it only 'adds' to the infamous nature of it. The secret ingredient is crime, like Superhans once said about stolen chocolate. If you are not part of TG and 'simply a beta tester' then your opinion on why this is not a public beta is as valid as any other person's opinion on the subject, so you needen't explain or apologise for something that you have no control over. I don't recall stating that this should be an open beta, but merely that they should try to make the best of the leak, be it using the fuss that it has generated, or even get users to submit their opinions on aspects of the game that TG is working on. Example: I believe (though feel free to correct me) that the lines of the Jedi padawan/thief on Dantooine were 're-recorded' from scratch, based upon found dialogs, right? I'm going to assume that TG was only using them as a blueprint for the final version of their patch, since the recording quality and vo actress are horrible, but that seems like something the community (which you seem eager to belittle) could have some input in, whether it's someone with a nicer voice or professional experience at audio editing. You'd be surprised how many people could actually help out with their skills, beyond coding and modding. If people in the TG beta-testing team are reporting fake bugs, surely TG would want to straigthen out what constitutes a bug and how to report them correctly. It seems pretty darn obvious to me that you should use a clean installation of the game, use no mods or 3rd party fixes etc. If they can't do that, by all means get rid of them and get someone else in who can figure all that stuff out like a rational adult and not waste your precious time. I check the bugs page ever other day or so, so I'd like to think that I am up-to-date on the progress of the patch that TG feels that everyone should be privy to. They last put up a progress overview 8 months ago (October 2007) and have totally slacked in that respect (14 in the first 2 years of development, only 4 last year, none this year), so excuse me if it seems to me that this project seems to be grinding down to a halt. 'Firing' a great number of beta-testers doesn't seem like that encouraging a move. Of course, they very well could be 2 hours away from completion, but hiding that from everyone isn't doing them any favours. Anyway, good luck to TG and hopefully they will release it up to their standards soon.

It makes sense. Pre-emptive striking. You leak it out, blame someone else, throw a hissy fit and vow to never release anything and everyone is happy for they have a scape-goat to show up to with digital pitchforks and torches, plus they have a beta that they will gladly download. It's not like anyone outside of your team could confirm any of this (or other theories) anyway, right? I don't care about that though, but you guys should make some sort of assement or detailed report on what is done and what needs to be done and maybe you could something good come from the leak. The whole secretive thing is growing very tiring.

A question about Kotor II System Requirements
refuse replied to Christian22179's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
My laptop is a Centrino Duo at 1.9 or something, 1GB ram, a 128 MB (onboard) ultra-basic Intel graphics card, with WinXP Pro and the game is totally fluid. Every time I launch it, I am however informed that my graphics card is inadequate, but apart from the sith armours not being silver/reflective (they are white, like stormtroopers or clonetroopers) and no blur effect in force push and running (no real loss imho), I have no performance issues and run it at top graphics/audio quality and resolution. As I said however; the game is notoriously buggy, so maybe I'm extremely lucky. -
Where do I get my personal lightsaber crystal?
refuse replied to russr's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Or change allignment. I think there are like 5 degrees of allignment with the crystals, from very dark, to very light. -
HK can be effective if you use non-jedis because he will be immune to a host of force powers. There are some pretty sweet upgrades for the droids too, that can greatly enhance HK and along with some careful leveling up and a good blaster, can prove to be an effective killing machine. More than anything though, you can't beat his cynicism.
-
It is indeed Mandalore. The above link will fill you in on how he came to be leader of the Mandalorians after KotOR 1. I believe at some point in the game his real name in mentioned by someone in a cut-scene, possibly Kreia herself. If you use KSE (save editor), you can change Mandalore's appearance, so that you can remove his armour and reveal his rugged bearded face. Unfortunately even with his helmet off he still sounds like he's talking over a bad phone-line.

A question about Kotor II System Requirements
refuse replied to Christian22179's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Chances are that if you bought your computer in the last couple years it should run no problem. I'm running on a year-old Dell Laptop with a horrible Intel Graphics Card and apart from say not having shinny armours, it runs fine. Mind you, the game is notoriously buggy. -
I quiet like HK, he's got some funny dialog, as well as stories to tell you, plus he's a pretty good droid to have around, when equiped properly. It might sound a bit silly, but occasionally I'll give myself all the required droid parts from the get-go and use him from Telos-onwards. Definitely a better NPC than Atton early on, I find. I don't think it messes up the game in any real way.

You most likely forgot to pick it up after a battle or from a merchant. You could use the KotOR Save Editor (KSE) or the simple cheats to get it in your inventory.

What planet(s) do you hate the most?
refuse replied to For The Republic's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yeah, those two quests are totally messed up and most of the time players won't complete them. They aren't entirely broken, I've completed both on occasion (TG had fixes for them), but more often than not it had to do with sheer luck in talking to right people in the right order to get them sorted; a lot more complicated than they should be! -
Considering how there is no Neutral Prestige Class, by staying neutral you are missing out on the specific feats (like Force Jump and immunities) and Force powers available exclusively to either side and class. You are also loosing out on all the +/- bonuses for using native LS or DS Force Powers that naturally come with aligment (like a LS Jedi using heal). I suppose it means that you can use Heal and Lightning at their base cost, but in any case, even with a Weaponsmaster/Marauder, who have the least FPs (after say lvl 25 or so) end up having no real problem using all Force powers regardless of alignment. So basically, apart from early on in the game where you have limited FPs and use both sides of the Force, you aren't gaining any real advantage. PS: Swxpert was trying to pull your leg with an 'easter egg'.
-
The game wasn't really designed with a real 'neutral' side in mind; to progress through the game you have to do either 'light' or 'dark' side stuff (and balance them out accordingly). I haven't tried it, but I guess if you don't have enough 'alignment' points you can't gain a prestige class, so I don't know how that affects the rest of the game from then on, or whether you're stuck in rut until you make the choice, Jedi or Sith.

Dxun seems to be more 'explorable' in my opinion because it's nicely designed and looks decent enough as a jungle/forest. I felt a little bit let down however with the Sith Tomb on Dxun, more specifically 'getting there'. It would have been nicer to find a path there, rather than just teleport near-by. -
There were a few fixes they had uploaded (and have since taken down, but you could possibly still find them), but I doubt that it's feasible or worth 'separating' the fixes from the restoration work to make separate releases. A lot of the bugs found and fixed relate to the way the restored material is intergrated into the game, so it seems like a waste of time, considering how close to completion this appears to be, to 'isolate' the fixes and remove all 'extra' content.

I don't know if that's appropriate to do Windu, or at least the rational behind it. Team Gizka hasn't caved in to the pressure to rush this project so far, for reasons made perfectly clear, so why give in now? It comes off a bit as favouritism. I'm sure there are loads of people interested and concerned about TSL who aren't perstering you for updates, demos or betas on a regular basis. Why cut them off and 'reward' the others? Everyone (excluding people who've actually assisted in its development) should have to wait the same time and I'd rather wait until it's actually completed, playable and as bug-free as possible. If people are that impatient, that should be their problem and not affect you as a team. It's not like they are financial backers or anything to have an invested interest in the outcome of your hard work. They should chill out, go out-side or at the very least stop playing and obsessing about TSL so much for a while.

KOTOR II on Xbox 360 - Still any bug fixes?
refuse replied to Albion72's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That sounds just like Metallica's St. Anger record! Anyway, joking aside, I don't think there are a lot of options for you, aside from looking for any available updates on Xbox Live or whatever. Did you purchase your copy of the game for an original Xbox, and if so, did it perform better on that machine? I have heard that there are compatability issues with the Xbox 360, but as I haven't got one I can't be of any further assistance. One thing is for sure though: you won't be finding any fixes beyond the official ones and I can't see MS or Lucas supporting a game this old. It could be that your game disc has deteriorated from use. In any case, if nothing works on your 360, have a look on a couple different machines. That will should tell you if it's your actual game disc that's being problematic (if you find the same errors repeated), or possibly your machine. -
Which Dev was Atton Rand patterned after?
refuse replied to Karzak's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Did you consider he might NOT want to be contacted by people through this forum anymore? -
I think you have to send off some cash for any CDs, unless it's replacing a defective one within warranty, I believe. That's assuming that Lucas will get back to you, or have discs laying around and still support the game to do so though. Otherwise, I'd recommend you have a look on ebay or a game-store. You should be able to pick it up pretty cheap since it's pretty old. I got my new copy of the game for
