The ending of KOTOR2: huh? (SPOILERS INSIDE)
refuse replied to Seeker1's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I think you misunderstood what happens when you confront the Jedi Masters on Dantooine. They don't condemn you for bringing people to the Force, but rather for the unique Force ability you have of influencing and manipulating people around you. Kreia makes that point in dialogue when she says that people follow you regardless of their alignment and goals. Obviously Jedis would see that ability as capable of corrupting not only yourself, as the Exile, but also cruely manipulating others. Furthermore I think it aludes somewhere in that trial, or later in the game end, that the reason the Sith Assassins have been as successful as they've been at taking out Jedis and driving them to near-extinction, is that their teachings are based around events and abilities related to the Exile's role and Force power. In that respect, the Jedis see the Exile as the root of the evils that plague everyone else. On Malachor V, the way the game plays out is that you either want to destroy or preserve the planet, to make sure neither Kreia nor her teachings will survive or not, depending on aligment. As to why none of your NPCs properly appear, the obvious answer would be that they are incapacitated or still in the Ebon Hawk when the Exile runs around trying to find Kreia. It seems more than likely that Bao Dur's 'sacrifice' refers to cut content about his death earlier in the game, or perhaps his arm, during the Mandalorian Wars. With regards to the fate of your companions, Kreia can't tell you about the droids because they are inanimate creatures and she also has trouble reading Bao Dur's mind (as she also says earlier in the game when she helps you reconnect to the Force) because of his alien language or whatever. I don't think that Kreia (or ANY jedi/sith for that matter) has the ability to accurately predict the future, hell, even Yoda and Palpatine (arguably amongst the strongest Force users from both sides) can't predict their own future. As to her motivation, it is to destroy the Force, plain and simple. What faction she decides to join at any given time, she only does in order to further her own goal. She uses Sith powers not because she is a 'conventional' Sith, but because that will allow her to manipulate the Sith to bring their own demise. Think of her as an arms dealer who's trying to see WMD's to two opposing armies if you will. She will side with each other to gain their trust and ultimately be the death of both. The Atris bit is pretty much as you describe it; she thought she could use the Sith Holocrons without being corrupted, but she failed. The exposure of her romantic feelings is a hint towards this; after all, Jedis are not supposed to fall in love with one another, right? Her having suppressed those feelings was one key to her falling, as far as I can tell, therefore it doesn't warrant going into a whole explanation or anything about it, beyond it being a reason for her fall, a weakness. She was also trying to rebuild the Jedi Order herself and I gather the intent of the game developers was for the Older Jedi order to die (either you or eventually Kreia killing the remaining masters and Atris falling), so that the Exile and his/her band of merry men and women become the basis of a newer Jedi Order. I think you may have misunderstood quite a lot because you refer to cut content. The problem is that after that cut content was removed, the game was probably given a bit of a polish to iron out some of the plot problems, making that cut content appear to contradict or overly-complicate the game plot as it is. I'd suggest you complete the game a few times, with different aligments/gender and changing NPCs often enough to go through as many dialogue options as you can, in order to get a better understanding of the story. -
Using KSE can sometimes corrupt game saves. Also, the corruption might be due to your HD needing a bit of a clean-up and defragment; perhaps installing the game in a different directory might make things better if you keep on getting corrupted saves.

Please refresh my memory...(possible spoilers)

Not everyone can become a jedi ( ), but your own alignment and influence will have an effect as to what Jedi/sith your NPCs can be trained... Some of them will follow your footsteps, whilst others will become the opposite (if you can train them) -
Yup, after you get to Telos you should be picking up the various parts you need on the first few planets, either through confrontations or some of the merchants

Game not work with Dell XPS laptop 8700 GT SLI! HELP!
refuse replied to ratboy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Honestly, I got a Dell latpop (Latitude D820) and I never managed to get the update the drivers on the Intel graphics card either! It wouldn't take the official Intel ones, nor the Dell update for some reason! I can't help anymore, maybe if you put your specs up, someone more familiar will be able to give you a hand at this. -
- Read through the sticky in the forum about this sort of stuff - Download the latest patch through the game autoplay menu. - Download the fixes available at Team-Gizka.org - Pray your computer isn't too new or too old.

After you complete Dxun you will be allowed to travel to the other planets, as normal in the game. You can complete the quests on each planet in any order you wish, although there are reports of bugs about leaving some planets last (nar shadaa and onderon I believe), but you needn't worry about that now. Look at the FAQ and stickies in this forum for more on this. I don't know about the swoop race, it doesn't sound like a bug. I haven't really played any of the tracks in this game, but in any case the swoop races are not required to be completed to beat the game. Hope that was helpful.

A way to manually advance the story?
refuse replied to Subtle Demise's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
How about removing your override folder, loading a previous save and having another go at it? If your saves are corrupt, start again, install ONLY the skip telos mod and see how that works out for ya. -
True, similarly to how apart from a few NPCs from KotOR that appear in TSL, we don't know what happened to most of them, but rather speculate, I suppose the same will happen with a sequel to the series. I suppose a prequel might be anti-climatic, considering the end of TSL (both cannon and the upcoming restoration project's ending), but I would be keen on say looking at the early HK-47, running into Mandalore and being joined by some of the Jedi Council (perhaps Atris?)... The more I think about Revan kicking ass in the Unknown Regions, the more I envision KoTOR 3 being more of an MMORPG, which I don't think this series needs.

So how and when exactly is your party killed? Do guns/droid fire at you or what? Unless this is a bug (i haven't heard of it) in which case I have no idea (look at team-gizka.org for some crucial fixes btw), it's probably a quest-related task you haven't done. Has this happened to you before? Have you played through this section before?

Problems re-installing KotORII
refuse replied to WolfGangPaco's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Not necessarily, mine aren't in pristine condition, but some scratches can be deceptively deep. Perhaps your HD has some fragmentation issues; try running your defrag (will take a few hours...) and/or installing the game in a different location. -
I think there's a set of droid guns that you have to deactivate through a terminal, or else it's instant death.

Problems re-installing KotORII

Perhaps your CD is scratched up? -
I suppose the fear is that most people could lose interest in it if the beta was rushed (say it was release a year and a half ago) if it was bug-ridden, making it more likely to die. I suppose due to the volume of data and modding involved, they probably want people who are serious about testing it, rather than eager gamers who might be of much technical assistance.
-
I think everyone gets about the same amount of chatting going on, however some NPCs, due to story lines being reduced, might have less. Not sure. All NPCs however will react to over the top actions, such as butchering a load of defenseless people or saving someone else, gaining or losing you influence points.
-
KSE will let you edit your saved games (ie changing stats, inventory items, xp, etc...). To add mods, you generally have to drop a load of files in your 'Override' folder, but you should have instructions with the mods themselves if they require anything more.
-
Yeah, basically the game got a rushed release, so in an effort to remove incomplete elements of the game, the editing kinda suffered. I believe conceptually Kreia needed to have some 'pet' muscle, in case everyone turns on her and what better insurance tool than a deranged wookiee bounty hunter? She also probably sensed that, as a Dark Sider, the Exile could learn a lesson of strength from Hanharr. Considering that Mira, as a lightsider, ends up becoming a Jedi (and eventually an important founding member of the LS Exile's newly established Jedi Order), I suppose Kreia would want to have the means to corrupt or control potential Jedi. That is also by the way why she's distant from Bao Dur (whose future and thoughts she can't sense), manipulative and dismisive around Atton, Disciple, etc... Kreia probably sensed Mira's force potential and the tension with Hanharr. Playing Mira on Malachor V does seem a bit random, why not play any of the other NPCs, right? I suppose her bit was left in because Hanharr's storyline doesn't link that much to the rest of the stuff they had to remove (such as the HK-47/Goto/Remote showdown that goes back to the also cut Droid Planet/Factory sequences).

The Many Unused Models O.o
refuse replied to JediMasterAltena's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Chill I'm referring to stuff like the Jawas, the Sandpeople, the Rakatan etc models that don't appear in the game. The party member selection menu shows them as blank and when I add them in as party members, it hangs. Maybe it's my computer being crap? Hmm... When I reinstall it, I'll play around some more... -
The Many Unused Models O.o
refuse replied to JediMasterAltena's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yeah, I was wondering about some of those models showing up in TSL through KSE. Actually, there are also quite a few portrait pictures from KOTOR to be found, however when I choose them with KSE, it all goes a bit spazz and throws me an error. I played around with KSE a while back and unfortunately quite a few (KOTOR I models) would cause my game to hang or it did not display them (completely blank). Does this happen to everyone? Is there process required to get them to appear properly? Does anybody have a list of npc models (or know where I can get one) that are usable in the game? I've also being playing around with Kotor Tool and have some ideas about a mod. -
The game ending is pretty ambiguous, my only major problem with the game as it is. Storywise, it makes sense to end it there, but chopping away on so many elements of it, has left it rather incomplete. The Restoration Patch will hopefully address this!

Perhaps we are investing a wee bit too much into the semantics of the Force, light side, dark side, etc... In the end of the day, Lucas envisioned them as two opposing philosophies, as a binary division, so clearly there are 'good' and 'bad' qualities in both. However, if we want to discuss this from a canonical basis, the Dark Side is meant to be the boogie man and the Light Side is mean to be the knight on a white horse. You might be supposed to feel sad for Vader in Episode VI, but that's because he's 'redeemed' himself to the light side. If we want to discuss this otherwise, on a non-canonical basis, then any argument you put forward will essentially be correct, as you can assume, misunderstand or accept whatever you want. The concept of 'grey/gray' Jedis, as far as I can tell, is one that tries to change the discourse into dismantling this binary divide, consolidating both opposing sides with a humanist twist. Or perhaps it's a step towards that Nietzschean 'Overman'. Who knows?
