What? In what ways does race determine how good of a parent someone will be? In what ways does religion determine how good of a parent someone will be? In what ways does sexual orientation determine how good of a parent someone will be? And since they apparently do, which race, religion, and orientation is best suited for parenting, and why? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's asking for preference, not restriction. Here's an example...if the child up for adoption is white, would he be raised better by a good pair of white parents or an equally good pair of black ones? If the child has a religious background, the particular religion should take preference in the choosing of the parents. If not, race should come first as a deciding factor, just under ability. And as for orientation...I can't really say anthing that hasn't been said. A maternal and paternal influence, I believe, is required for healthy growth of a child. Some sort of main female and some sort of main male...just easier to have parents of a different sex.

Well, I'd say it ceased to be a religious thing once marriage acquired legal benefits.

I know about the single parents out there who raise their children just fine...myself being one of those children for a significant portion of my childhood, which is why I included that "primary influence" bit, Alan and Oer.

Personally, I believe that marriage should be allowed, but adoption should be fiercely regulated. I mean for straight couples too...in fact, the entire system could use an overhaul, but I digress... The marriage itself means little to me, it's the kids I'm concerned about. I've got this notion that a child requires a parent, or at least a primary influence, from both genders in order to get the correct sort of upbringing intended by nature. In short, for me at least, marriage ok, adoption not so much. I know this topic is grounds for an instant flame war, but I'm genuinely curious to see what the responses will be, and hope we can remain civil about this. So? Thoughts?
