A few things that bugged me about KOTOR
Judge Hades replied to Neowulf's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Jedis don't exist in the Fallout universe, that is why. Scoundrels do exist in the Star Wars universe. Gee, why is that such a hard concept for you to understand? -
How about some various Blaster stances?

That is why Bioware was short sided in their development of KotOR. There should have been 3 endings. LS Jedi DS Sith Neutral for a Revan who doesn't give a smeg one way or the other. -

I think you are underestimating non-Force users, Ghosty. Malak would be easily defeated by a non-force character, may it scoundrel, soldier, or scout even with Malak's cheese combat. Han SOlo was hardly the best scoundrel in the universe and Vader did caught him by surprise. -

How would the fact Revan can't be a force-less smuggler. After all the Council erased all momery he or she had of being Revan. He or she could simply turn his back on the force. It would have changed nothing in the story whatsoever. THe developer has the right to do set up the history of the character prior to the start of the game but once the game starts the character is mine. Setting governs the options available. Fallout is not in the Star Wars universe so it makes no sense to have a Jedi in Fallout such as it would make no sense to have a FEV super mutant in Star Wars. However it does make sense to the setting to have a Rodian Smuggler in the Star Wars universe. -
It could say Fall or Summer as much as I care. Until the game goes gold all this speculation is worthless.
-
Until the game goes gold and its the store can confirm shipment release dates are useless information.

Your basis is wrong however. Fallout is not part of the Star Wars universe therefore that option is not available due to the universe and setting rules that guides the game. Using Fallout as the basis, you would have made a better argument for them not letting you play a supermutant or a ghoul. In the Star Wars RPG you have various races, classes, feats, and skills related and native to the setting. Stay within the setting and you would have a better argument. -
Have the game release on 12/21/04 and shipped to stores on the 23rd. :D

It will be released when it is released, so till it is released why not relax and let us badger each other about Jedis vs non-Jedis. :D

*Visceris sings to the tune of a bad 80's cartoon show them* No one can stop the Hades because the Hades doesn't stop. -
Of course I am not. I like Shadows of Undretide so that proves that point quite readily. What is your point? It is still would be nice to see a CRPG better than Fallout. For seven years there hasn't been one.

A non-force user can fight a force user and still kick his butt. Done it many a times in both versions of the Star Wars RPG. If the story wasn't so narrow in the first place, which is a bad design in a CRPG, it wouldn't need a re-wrtie. It is still sad that a game released in 1997 has yet been surpassed. -
I have to agree with Sarkile. I am really disappointed with George Lucas and his kroneys.

A few things that bugged me about KOTOR
Judge Hades replied to Neowulf's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The character's past, such as being from a Vault or being part of the Madalorian Wars is up to the developer to decide. I have no problem with that, once I start playing the character he needs to be my character. Meaning I decide what skills he focuses on, what feats/perks he picks, what powers or lack of power he has, what class or classes he will be. KotOR removes that choice by forcing you to play a Jedi. It forces you to choose a Jedi class which all played in the same way. In KotOR 2 you are forced to play a Jedi again. It removes all the previous character types you can play and introduces lame prestige classes. My favorite Star Wars class is the Scoundrel. I like playing the scoundrel class above all others and it pissed me off to no end that I couldn't finished KotOR with a maxed out scoundrel. It pisses me even more off that scoundrel isn't even a choice in its sequel. -
You should probably rephrase that to "It's too bad I have to play as a Jedi" since the rest of us understand that the game is designed around the PC being a Jedi. Since we're here following the game, I think it is clear that we don't think it is too bad to have to play as a Jedi. You're in the minority Hades......not everyone thinks that a game has to give complete freedom of character development in order to be good (in fact I'd wager that very few feel that it is quite the necessity you make it out to be). Not everyone knows what makes a good crpg either.

Ranged weapons more powerful - why?
Judge Hades replied to Mr. Teatime's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well, I rather have an original science fiction CRPG, but a lack of that Fallout 3 would have been a close second. -

Instead of putting forth a prequel trilogy or continuing the Indiana Jones line I would have created a whole new franchise with a whole new storyline. That is just me. -

Damn, I forgotten about those. Gee, thanks for dredging up those bad memories. -

After GL ruins SW he is going to ruin Indiana Jones by continuing the series. -

He is killing his original vision of his greatest creative work which is far worse if someone else was doing it. -

As much as I b*tch and annoy people I expect a lil' annoyance back. My favorite book? My favorite story of all time is John Milton's Paradise Lost. -

The primary difference in character development in Fallout and KotOR is that you have full control over your character's development (as you want the character to be in the full range of the rules system used) when in KotOR you were forced into the role of a Jedi. A Metagamer is just as bad if not worse than a Powergamer. Even in real life one cannot talk there way out of violence. Take a look at the Iraqi Information Minister during the war. He talked and talked and talked and still people got killed. All that talking did squat. There are somethings in life you can't talk yourself out of and that bullet will taste your gray matter. -

Like I said, the ship was scrap once I got done with it. In that campaign Halberd went through about 12 different starfighters, some of which were stolen from the Empire others were borrowed from the Republic Fleet. If I could play Commander Halberd again I would have such a blast. -

alanschu, have you even read the PnP material that KotOR is based on? Jedi is not a title. Also artificially limiting yourself in the character's abilities is metagaming and sorry, I just don't metagame. Also I never said I don't like sidequests. I don't like pointless sidequests like stupid fed ex quests and the such. I also disagree with your assessment of Fallout. I went through the game more than a hundred times each with a different variance of character types. I am able to play the character as I wished and what makes sense. I dictate how my character is played and how he is developed. In KotOR1 you can only choose three classes and by the time you get off the first planet that choice becomes irrelevant because now you are forced to play a Jedi. It doesn't matter which Jedi class we pick because each one basically plays the same. Now in KotOR2 we have to be a Jedi at the beginning and since it doesn't matter which Jedi class we choose, since they all play the same, every character we play in the game will be the same. Talking about killing replay value, sheesh, Obsidian did a number on that one. Quick question here: How can you not feel like you are watching a movie when you are watching a movie. I always feel like I am watching a movie when I am watching a movie. As the scenes play out I do a quick analysis of each one and store that in my memory so I could play it back in my mind later. You are just strange in that regard.
