For what it's worth: He wiped the floor with me the last time on PotD (i was on level 7 or 8 i think). I can imagine the encounter on level 10 on hard being too easy. Especially if he hasn't his undead buddies with him then. I plan to fight him on level 10, too. I think below that level would be too annyoing for me on PotD. Also i would suggest a way to reduce the experience gain (is part of Deadly Deadfire for example, can also be downloaded separately).

After my first playthrough of PoE I on hard i swore to never play a Pillars game on any difficulty other than POTD. I was fairly certain they would not change there design philosphy in the next game and so far it seems i'm right. POTD seems right so far. The combat system of PoE II has its problems, i won't go into the details (waiting till Pathfinder: Kingmaker is patched up to get another kind of experience in that regard), but i somehow made my peace with the game. It wasn't easy for me at first after all the, in my mind, stupid changes to the combat system. (Btw, i could confirm that changing scaling midgame has indeed an effect and works as intended.)

Recently i started my first PoE2 game (POTD), after a while i was unsatisfied with my character etc. and started again, this time with Berath's Blessing (Attribute boost) and encountered something curious: Most of the lootable locations on the world map (ship wrecks etc.) suddenly yielded far better items then in my first game (i found 2 spyglasses, a cloak of protection, some relatively powerful rings in the first 5 locations alone). Therefore my question: Is the probability of finding loot somehow tied to the attributes? I couldn't find anything about that on the net. Or maybe the new beta patch changed something in that regard?

My last (and best) playthrough in PoE I was with a (most of the time) ranged Cipher (bows) who occasionally went into melee. The consensus at launch was that Cipher plays very underwhelming in comparison to PoE I. Has that changed? What is the state of the class now? Does it work well when playing Path of the damned (especially single-class)? Also, my stat allocation in PoE I looked roughly like this (i don't have the game installed at the moment, so i'm not completely sure): M 16 C 7 D 15 P 11 I 17 R 9 Does this work well? I read that perception is especially important in PoE II.

Is a new patch on the way?

The point about Torment wasn't about its lack of DLC (I have no idea how you came to that conclusion) - it was about the glaring problems that still remain after the post-release development was officially canceled. They did that to focus on the new Bard's Tale and Wasteland (instead of wasting time/money on a game that sold like crap), hence the parallel with Obsidian and their new multi-platform RPG. Tides of Numenaria was horrible. I think I put 4 hours into it. On the other hand, I have over 100 into Deadfire so far. I myself was a little bit disappointed by that game, too. But to claim that it's the worst thing ever as some people do is simply wrong. It's a mixed bag, with good and bad parts overall. My response to the OP was mainly because i'm simply sick of the hyperbole on the net, probably coming from all the different echo chambers people come from (my main guess). You rarely find a middle ground nowadays. If something has flaws, it suddenly is "the worst thing ever"". The developers are silent for one or two weeks after release, it's a sign that the game "has failed" and is doomed to be "a broken mess" etc... It gets annoying very fast. -

I would never claim that Torment was a completely polished game and i was hoping they will do a little bit more as well. But so far as i can see it was complete and bug-free at the end. That is what i meant... -

... we've had 2 major patches fixing bugs since release a little over a week ago. We've had ONE hotfix that primarily dealt with the issues related to importing save files (which is a pointless feature anyway considering that PoE 1 choices don't affect the plot of Deadfire in any meaningful way). Pillars 1 received significant updates (2.0 and 3.0) with tons of QoL features and bug fixes, while the planned DLC for Deadfire and another pointless sidekick don't inspire confidence. After all is said and done, this game is gonna end up abandoned like Tides of Numenera - a broken mess. I'm beginning to get a little bit annoyed by all the hyperbole on the net. If you follow what Sawyer is saying about the upcoming patch you get exactly the OPPOSITE picture. And even if what you claim about Torment is true (it isn't, not every game needs to have DLC after DlC, you know), that is inXile and not Obsidian and you can't make a conclusion based on what another company does. -
A very nuanced and well articulated write-up! I hope Obsidian recognizes balanced comments like this and disregards other comments of a certain, let's say: "questionable", quality...

I must say i find what i've read about how the relationships and romances in this game work really disturbing. You get a new NPC in your party and after a short time after barely learning to know this NPC he starts to hit on you. You can choose if you accept or you decline. Is this impression an exaggeration? Is there no slow building up of a relationship with the NPCs over time? Do they have content other than content connected with being a love interest for the PC?

What is with the blessing of berath-options that make the game harder? They talked about it in the fig-campaign...

Thanks for sharing your impressions! You describe exactly the build i was thinking about. I would be very interested to hear how it goes later in the game. I imagine as soon as you get Reaping Knives it will be smooth sailing. At least it felt almost OP in PoE 1 on path of the damned.

In which world is that a bad thing? Don't give the developers bad habits, please! Also i find it sad that a lot of people focus on stuff like the graphics and the VA and trivial **** like - in your post - the walking toggle, instead of diving into the mechanics and what works and what doesn't work. My first impression is definitely: Obsidian tried to "biowareise" PoE and the people seem to bite. If they make a PoE 3 in the future, will i be part of the target audience then? I have to ask myself that. Anyway, like the game so far still.
