  1. Woah, woah, woah... what's with bringing sense to the argument? I agree that it didn't work, and I think Harvey Smith would probably agree too. Sure, you could say that, if you wanted to twist both his words and desires for the game into something they aren't so that they suit your own anti-console beliefs.
  2. Again, you are arguing that DX:IW was limited because it was developed multiplatform for two systems then contradicting yourself by praising Psychonauts which was developed multiplatform for three systems. You're cancelling out your own argument! And just who was Ion Storms audience, hmmm? That's right, console and PC user. As much as PC elitists seem to want to believe in tha fantasy of ISA devs sitting around saying "OMG these skills are so totally awesome and PC gamers will love them but we have to dumb down the game for console gamers" it simply isn't true. You are aware that the PS2 version of the original DX featured skills, just like the PC original, right? And it wasn't even developed multiplatform, it was ported later, giving them plenty of time to remove those oh so troublesome skills. But they didn't, there was no need. THERE ARE ALREADY BAZILLIONS OF CONSOLE RPGS AND RPG HYBRIDS THAT MAKE USE OF SKILLS, MORE SO THAN THE ORIGINAL DX. HELLO? *knock knock* IS ANYONE HOOOOME??? Peter Molyneux created Populous, but doesn't mean Black & White is any good. Making one great game doesn't guarantee every game you make is great. Just ask John Romero. Ultimately, the craptitude of DX:IW is entirely down to the bad decisions made by the ISA team, and no amount of scapegoating from PC elitists is going to chance that. Of course, I know full well that this isn't going to stop people from putting there fingers in their ears and chanting "lalalalala, consoles bad, lalalalala..."
  3. I don't know if 26 makes me too young or not, but I've been playing Nintendo consoles since the NES (though I skipped the N64) and their games in the earlier days never struck me as any more "kiddy" than other systems. By gamers, not by Nintendo, which was my point. It is not Nintendo's view that they make consoles for kids, or that they won't accept ratings above teen, it's their view that most games should be enjoyed by both kids, teens and adults. Hell, Nintendo purchased the rights to the Resident Evil series in an attempt to move away from this "kiddy" label.
  4. I've seen someone claim that Halo limits the player to two weapons because there aren't enough buttons on an Xbox controller. And that the reason DX:IW doesn't feature skills is because console users don't "get" skills, or that console can't handle skills, which completely ignores all the rpgs ever made, including the original version of DX on PS2! Actually, the engine limited the map size. The only thing a PC exclusive version would have guaranteed, if they insisted on using that crap engine, is a smaller hud.
  5. I think unusual sexual fetishes are just as accepted in Japan as they are in the west. And by "accepted" I pretty much mean only that they are legal. People might know of them but unless they are into them they aren't going to be discussed over the dinner table. I imagine Japanese respond to underwear vending machines the same way Australians respond to sex shops - there are people who use them, people who don't care, and the religious right who attempt to destroy them. It's not like a Japanese woman is going to bring home her son a copy of "Tentacle Rape Monster Super Happy Fun Edition #7" any more than an American mum is going to bring home her son a copy of "**** In Her Eye #9". As for child pageants, haven't you ever heard of the Jon Benet Ramsey Murder Case? That was my introduction into the childhood beauty pageant world. Check this: http://www.universalroyalty.com/ out and tell me it doesn't seem exceptionally creepy...
  6. How, odd... You offer a multiplatform (PC & Xbox) game as proof that console games are "dumbed down", and then you offer another multiplatform (PC, Xbox and PS2) games as proof of innovation? Sorry, but all you've done is prove that how innovative or "dumbed down" a game is is not down to the system it's developed on.
  7. That settles it, I'm signing up as cameraman.
  8. "Cloud Starchaser"? Does it get any geekier than that? I guess if he gave himself a rank...
  9. As I've said before, the best developers can make great games despite the limitations placed on them. Developers are just as limited by Sony or MS when making console games as developers are limited by the publishers when making PC games. Before their demise Troika spoke of making their future post-apoc RPG as real-time or real-time/turn-based hybrid, because that was an easier sell to the publishers. Endless possibilities indeed. Your anti-console bias reminds me of the guy on the old Ion Storm forums who claimed that MS forced all Xbox developers to make heavy use of "Xbox Green" in their games. What a great argument! "Dude, independant cinema is where it's at! All Hollywood films are crap, you can't be stifled by the major studios! Fight the power!" You sound like a million other students. If you're going to claim that PC gaming is world of endless possiblities, then you're going to have to compare released PC games as a whole with released console games as a whole. A bunch of student games that the majority of PC gamers will never play or ever care about are of no consequence.
  10. Since when? It's most definitely accepted in western culture. Not openly discussed as much as everything else, but the Adult Industry is hardly underground, it's big business. Just to clarify, I'm not referring to anything illegal, I'm talking about typical hardcore porn, with an emphasis on the unusual. There are companies in the US, for instance, that specialise in stuff like rape porn, and it's all perfectly legal, providing they stick to specific guidelines. And of course the net is full of "cute teen girl" hardcore porn, though the fine print will always indicate "all models over 18". Is it? Are you actually aware of Japanese pornography (hardcore or softcore) that features actual 13 year old girls, or are you just making assumptions?
  11. I hope not, I'd make for one ugly and ill-equipped woman. Nor am I from Bolivia. And so have Americans and Europeans, which is my point. The Japanese don't have a monopoly on unusual sexual fetishes.
  12. I think this is a more accurate depiction:
  13. That, right there, is a great big load of crap. PC hardware is updated much more often than console hardware, but that doesn't translate to "endless possibilities" by any stretch of the imagination.
  14. Work as a censor and tell me the west doesn't produce it's share of weird, sick and just plain wrong pornography. Japanese cartoon tentacle rape really doesn't compare to American or European live-action rape porn. Like Aurora mentions, "it's still creepy and gross but it's not real." Of course, I'm weird anyway, because I don't find ejaculating on a womans face as totally HAWT as so many others seem to.
  15. That photoshopped picture is hardly proof of the PSU's enormity. I did like the caption that went with the pic from IGN, though.
  16. More powerful tech doesn't equal better or more complex games.
  17. As I said in some other thread, it's was never Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo (or Sega back in the day) claiming that consoles will kill off PC gaming, it was always the Pc crowd doing the "woe is me" whine.
  18. I suspect the "no mature games" thing has more to do with the usual anti-Nintendo crap you always see people spout here and there, than any official Nintendo policy. They might have been down on blood and gore in the past, sure, but that's a seperate issue to games for kids. I wouldn't exactly call Conker's Bad Fur Day "mature". Besides The Wind Waker, all my GC games are rated M+15 or MA+15. Though I only own 6 GC games...
  19. ^ I agree with that. I'm currently the beginning of the US campaign and I think I've died about a bazillion times.
  20. I forgot all about the bazillions of saves. I just loaded one from back at the and this time I was properly given the quest from Lacroix. Yay!
  21. I played a melee Toreador character, but then I cheated to get through the end. Of course, I'd have probably cheated anyway because the end is a great big pile of poop. Edit: problem solved.
  22. The PC version of Fable isn't a sequel, it's the Xbox version with extra bits. As for the vision of Peter Molyneux, I think he might be going blind...
  23. I remember reading that your good/evil actions in Fable can be countered simply by donating to an evil/good temple. Haven't tried Black & White. I always wanted to, but there is no demo and I was put off by so many negative comments. It seems to sequel hasn't really improved much either.
