The real shame is the lack of voter turnout. By all accounts the Alabama race is "too close to call" but will have only ~20% voter turnout. Meaning if Moore (or Jones) wins with a minimal simple majority, he was elected by ~4 thousand people to represent ~4 million. Off year special elections and midterms generally are low turnout, and yeah, turnout is going to be the major factor. Also, it's less 'too close to call' and more 'we have no clue because the polls are all over the place'. Nate Silver has a nice primer about the polls https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/what-the-hell-is-happening-with-these-alabama-polls/

Ah, see this is an interesting line. Despite our sensitive Polish friend not being able to vote, the fact is a bunch of real people from Alabama will because they believe exactly this. I mean even with quite a few Republican leaders disowning him, and those that support him basically saying policies are Moore important than his past, people are still going to see this as a fairy tale concocted by the evil left. It's comical because I have confidence that the Ethics committee will make short work of him if he is actually elected. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/12/11/should-conservatives-vote-for-roy-moore.html Has anyone noticed some odd changes to the posting style of Sharpie in the last few months? I know some of it may just be that he cuts and pastes from other sources, but his grasp of English seems to have changed. Man, every day I miss WoD. Something went humorously wrong with the bolded sentence. Regarding the Sharp_one thing about Democrats not being supposedly able to to fight fair against Roy Moore, I'd like to know whose fault is that. Mainly why does Moore have so much support when he has openly stated that things were better in America before the abolition of slavery, votes for colored people, women's suffrage, and Presidential term limits. Even if Jones win, it won't change the fact that almost half of voters will choose this man. Of course, in many respects, this is just Trump all over again. I don't understand how American society isn't curling up in shame. It's pure tribalism, unfortunately. I know it sounds like a dumb irrational reason, but that is the driving force behind both Trump and Moore.

I haven't heard of that specific anti-immigration line, but I'm definetly aware that Poland has the same kind of immigrant stereotype as Mexico does.
-
@sharp_one, I didn't mean that as a personal attack, sorry, I meant it like "come on man, I know you're just playing dumb here". Or at least I thought you were playing dumb about his past remarks. Though it's possible you don't know which ones I meant. Main point is that he's going to own controversial remarks while Senator. It might not affect him, but other politicians will have to respond to stuff he says while Senator. @Trueneutral: I guess substituting Mexico for Poland might have made that statement a bit confusing.

In other news, there was an attempted terror attack this morning, but the guy was so dang incompetent that he only injured himself and a few others, non-lifethreatening injuries, and created a hell of a lot of smoke. Mayor De Blasio forgot to say "Thank God that the guy was so incompetent."

Without proof and sources, your credibility is 0 you know. The forger one is debateable, but I don't think any of us here are experts in handwriting analysis. She admitted to forging the document. No analysis is needed anymore Statements like what? Conservative opinions? Well as far as I know being conservative is not a crime regardless of what dems are usually saying There is nothing wrong with Moore as a candidate. Sorry Trump 2020! Come on now, you're just being intentionally obtuse or facetous or whatever. Also, kind of forgot you weren't American, heh. Not that it matters much anyhow.

Without proof and sources, your credibility is 0 you know. The forger one is debateable, but I don't think any of us here are experts in handwriting analysis. The definition to describe him appears to be an ephebophile, someone who has sexual encounters with adolescents who are generally the age of 14-16 http://www.newsweek.com/sexual-assual-ephebophila-roy-moore-pedophilia-713683 https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/ephebophile But he is still a sexual deviant volo, why are trying to undermine his crimes and his actions? Ever heard of due process? There is no formal accusation and no investigation even. And all acusers have been proven if either straight up lying or untrusworthy at best. Remember this is 40 years ago when marriage with 16yo were common. Are you telling me people 40 years ago were all deviants? Come on. The reason why there is no formal accusation and no criminal investigation is because the statute of limitations expired on them. Sexual accusations aside, he IS known for making very controversial and problematic statements. He can probably handwave away past statements, but any statements he makes while Senator are going to have to be owned and explained. That's just the way it is, and it's the same for both sides. Then again, in this age with Trump.....

On the contrary I think it's lovely that evangelical Christians are finally standing up for sexual minorities, though I'm surprised it's pedophiles that finally roused them into action. Maybe it's just the echo bubble, but I haven't heard anything about that. Roy Moore is pretty much fringe of the fringes though.

Moore and I don't think it will be close either Even with the Republican candidate as damaged as he is, the Democrats still have a tough fight to get ahead. Normally, Alabama is a safe Republican Senate seat. So, Moore could still win, but could end up being close. Also, PSA reminder (as if we need one, but you'll get a laugh out of this one) on the kind of crazy that Moore would be inflicting on the GOP. He said back in 2011 that we should get rid of the amendments after the 10th as according to him, it'd fix lots of problems. So, among those he'd want to get rid of are the 13th amendment which abolished slavery or things that fixed problems that actually happened like the 12th. I know Moore and Trump supporters are just gonna say "That was in the past, the past doesn't matter", but once he becomes Senator (and I secretly hope the expelling fails so that the GOP reaps what they've sown), the GOP is going to own those comments, like that guys 'legitimate rape' comments. Handy reference to the 27 amendments for our international friends.

I don't know about the UK (though I've heard the mail system is owned by the queen or something), but the post office here is federally owned, which technically makes it not a monopoly. However, it's still a monopoly in the sense that they're the only ones allowed to deliver letters and stuff. UPS, FedEx, and other package carriers get around this by delivering packages instead.

A better analogy would be like a water company service throttling the water pressure so that only so much water comes through the pipes per second, leading to crappy showers and weak faucets, you ask for normal water speed, but the company says nope, you have to pay up for more.

Did you not watch the stick figures? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAxMyTwmu_M Video needs captions... The captions can be turned on..... Not on iPad, not easily anyways.......

Not quite sure that analogy worksIt really doesn't Agreed, since that's not how net neutrality works.

That analogy is muddled somewhat because with the Internet, it's possible to have pretty much every album produced as a download, whether as a torrent from you-know-where (obligatory disclaimer: Obsidian does not endorse torrenting from you-know-where and I'm not encouraging anybody to) or legitly purchased.

Until the deficit kills you that is. Not sure at what point the increasing debt would start having real impact on the economy, since obviously the debt won't increase forever with no consequences at all.

No, but the lying in the media already began: http://www.breitbart.com/big-journalism/2017/12/02/abc-suspends-brian-ross-four-weeks-without-pay/ Yeah, NBC derped up hard... They even got slammed by liberal media. Actually, it's also not the first time that particular journalist screwed up.

It was one of the other deep space probes that we lost contact with I believe. Anyways, not sure if we keep overengineering our probes and rovers and keep getting surprised by it or we are just that good and we are underestimating ourselves. Or possibly a combination of the two. Of course, the probes do have to survive the harsh environment in space, so, they're pretty hardy to start with. -
I like Harris in general, but I'd rather she at least finish her Senate term here in California, she just got elected last year after all. I don't think she's as extreme as you make her out to be though. Then again, you're Libertarian and anything left of right is extreme.

Trump did make a good point at one point that he could get large crowds at a rally without resorting to piling on celebrities while Clinton didn't seem to be able to get similar size crowds on her own abilities. So, that may have been an indicator of performance or possibly lack of excitement on the Denocrat side. Whoever the Democrat nominee is, they're not likely to make all of the same mistakes just because it's a different candidate and different team.
-
The deplorables comment pissed off those who already hated her, yes, but it could very well have shifted those who were more on the fence or were waiting for a good reason to hold their nose and vote Clinton. There were so many mistakes and other things going on that it's impossible to pin it down to one or two things, it was a whole cluster of factors. The whole rural/urban divide with the Dems not attracting the rural areas was also a major factor, but Obama won despite that, so, it's really only a portion of the puzzle.
-
He'd become a lame duck when the Democrats retake Congress. As for who the Dems field in 2020, they should do the entire bench instead of trying to pre-choose the winner as they effectively did in 2016. Wouldn't be real surprised if Trump wins again (assuming he didn't get impeached by then) given the bad state that the Dems are in and it'll take more than two election cycles to get a healthy bench back.

Gotta admit that it's a pretty good pun on what they do and the boring machines. -
Western Oby? What is that exactly?
