  1. first link: Isn't that the kruger-dunning effect? second link: No idea if that is the first time they've tried doing an official peace treaty, but if they manage to get one down, it'd be a step in the right direction. Don't see the DMZ or military along the border going away anytime soon since it'll be a long proccess.
  2. Huh? Like seriously an actual chicken as in bawk bawk chicken?
  3. It's still not the same kind of presence that Russia has, with active soldiers there as well as Russian based (if not actual Russian) mercs. China is more likely to get involved in the sense of getting caught in the crossfire than actually get deeply involved as it sounds like they're doing their own thing. Right now though, neither Russia or the US have a desire to escalate, which is good. There was that clash between Russian mercs and US based (or allied) forces (I think it was in part due to miscommunication? Sounded like mistakes were made which led up to it.) a few months ago which was rapidly smoothed over. If that was able to be smoothed over, then it would take something really major for it to go beyond words being exchanged.
  4. Surprised that made it on the MSM, let alone MSNBC. The professor is right on, except he left out Israel's involvement, and the potential involvement of China (who is 100% with Russia and Syria). Right on about what? The potential escalation with Russia? That risk has always been there since Russia joined in. Why would China get involved militarily though? They'll certainly back Russia and Syria even just to oppose the US in the UN, but I don't see it going any further than diplomatic support. Although while I could see them supplying Syria with weapons, Iran likely wouldn't appreciate China trying to muscle in diplomatically on what they view as effectively a sattelite state.
  5. I swear XKCD already did an analysis of that question. The answer though would be complicated because it depends on the composition of the asteroid and whether it's one solid mass or a loosely bound pile of boulders.
  6. and you cannot drop a barrel bomb from any aircraft that lacks a loading ramp. I've heard of barrel bombs being dropped (probably pushed out from inside) from helicopters though. I suppose it depends on how big of a barrel bomb we're talking about here. Edit: Attempting quote pyramid culling.
  7. Exptic animals like tigers shouldn't be kept as pets, because, well, they aren't pets.
  8. I think I saw something about them having difficulty identifying the specific chemical, or something. In any case, it's supposed to be something that only Russia would know how to make.
  9. Were it a red state, she'd have an AK-15, because California gun laws. *cue another circular debate on gun laws, etc*
  10. She looked like a young Pat Benatar! YouTube Shooter Made Contact With Local Police ...Hours Before Shooting. Given that she 'looks foriegn' and 'looks non-white', plus 'non-english sounding name', I can already see people shouting 'MUSLIM TERRORIST!' just because the name sounds arabic. Though the last name sounds more Indian to me. Still, religion clearly had nothing to do with what was going on here. She apparently had grievances against Youtube for blocking her videos for some reason or other, and the site that was shown, shows her as an animal welfare activist.
  11. 'Politicians only listen to lobbyists' Well, we knew that already..... The article also states basically that it's more complicated than purely Democrats support poor people and Republicans support rich people. The trend is there, yes, but it's much more complex and more nuanced than it implies. Also, I wouldn't say that the rich are the only ones who listen to politicians.
  12. It's just Cape Town that's having the problem, not the whole country.
  13. It's equivalent to the N word here in the states. The linguistic origin is different, but the meaning and usage is the same. Yes, they have bigger problems than that woman, but it's still part of what they're dealing with.
  14. I'd heard something about that but I don't read comics. Definetly green in the movies though. Speaking of changes, Superman's suit was changed to a more 'futuristic' electric blue and grey suit for a while before changing back.
  15. Three years seems overboard to me. I know South Africa, like the US, is still dealing with it's racist past, but we don't jail for that. However, the two countries are dealing with it differently.
  16. The Hulk is still green....
  17. The policy quagmires and the fact that other countries (though those with far fewer guns) were able to solve it is why they're doing this.
  18. Show me where he actually said that.
  19. People gonna see what they want to see.
  20. Right up there with Vermin Supreme. Though Vermin is more of a serious parodyer.
  21. The only place where it'd truly be non-national would be Antarctica or in international waters. Sure, Switzerland is good with the neutrality, but even they have their own geopolitical dealings.
  22. Trump has expelled 60 Russian diplomats and closed the Russian consulate in Seattle in a move that he personally made. In response, the Russian embassy in D.C. is asking the twitterverse what US consulate in Russia they'd choose to close.. I can only assume that they're trying to make the Russian move look as non-political as possible.
  23. Perhaps you should run for NRA president?
  24. That reads like a crazy person's response. They've been delusional for years. As far as the protest movement goes, this time around seems different in some way or other. So far, they seem to have control of their message, which is generalized gun control and pushing Congress to do something. The generalized and diverse messaging may be an advantage here.
