Politics and Statesmenship: A Forum Special Report

The Ayatollah said that he doesnt want war, which is all well and good, but the danger isn’t necessarily one side or the other intentionally goading the other or using a flimsy causus belli, it’s escalation spiralling out of control or mistakes leading to escalation. WWI is a pretty good case study in that. Not the only one, obviously, but it’s one that comes to mind. -
Or even as recently as 3 to 4 years ago, I’d be surprised if it DIDN’T get nasty in there at times during the 2016 campaign. Anyhow, I did notice that he seemed to have stopped posting a bunch of months ago, though I still sW him login for a bit and then disappeared.

How do I view the underlying bbc code? Would be easier to split up the quote that way. Anyway..... "now onto your point...." i totally agree with you here. I believe I’ve voiced here my frustrations on that here before, and it’s become especially egregious with the Republican Party, they’re breaking so many precedents that they’ll wish that they hadn’t. "hit the gas with Woodrow Wilson..." i thought that started more with FDR and then the post WWII era? At least that’s when the modern ‘imperial presidency’ started to really gel or something. Not that there weren’t others who pushed the envelope, Teddy Roosevelt comes to mind. Re constitutional conventions: Well, it’s doable IF you’re EXTREMELY careful as to how you go about it. Since new state constitutions have been done in the last 60 years (most in the 1960s and 70s though, last one was 1983), I suppose some kind of patchwork solution could work, but the federal government would probably have to decentralize to the levels of Spain (cue California-Catalonia comparisons, lol) in order for that to work. Just thinking out loud really, not a serious solution. "Bitcoin" To be fair, every national currency would be in the same boat in that scenario. -

No honor among thieves; https://www.politico.com/story/2019/05/07/trump-campaign-david-bossie-1309709 Not strictly new news, but it does show the type of characters Trump surrounds himself with, which isn’t exactly new news either. Also, whoever wrote that twitter post above forgot to include Trump just to round it out. He may not be a big shot type exec, but he’s still an exec in the usual sense -

Considering that Trump loves Fox so much, it’s not surprising that there would be a feedback effect there. Also, when he started, I half expected Fox to accidentally make him declare war a la the U.S.S. Maine incident. They haven't yet though, but the potential is still there. -

There’s plenty of problems abroad that crop up on their own or fester without the need to create one, all Trump needs to do is choose one. Any distraction from domestic things has been fleeting for Trump, largely because of Trump or they fade into the background noise. Trade war drums have amped up a bit recently though. -

Yeah, but better safe than sorry, right? it does say earlier in the article though that the intel isn’t very specific at this point. -

Warhawk banging the drums of war or not, they do appear to be responding to a possible threat: https://www.axios.com/israel-warned-trump-of-possible-iran-plot-bolton-34f25563-c3f3-41ee-a653-9d96b4541984.html -

I wonder if the horses name, Maximum Security, has anything to do with it. I did get a bit of a chuckle out of the name when I read about that horse disqualifying. -
+1 to that, I’m seeing it here too. I thought it refreshed the cookie or something every time I visited. Also, quoting you didn’t also get boeroers quote that was nested inside for some reason.

Pearl Harbor probably comes close, if not on par, in terms of pure miscalculation though. Both are definitely lessons in not underestimating your foe. -

Source that it’s a Hitler quote? It seems too generic to be attributable to any one person, sounds like something Churchill would say, for one. As for military mistake, I’m sure historians would argue over which one was the biggest blunder, but I assume maybe you’re referring to Hitlers attempt to invade Russia? Also, the quote would make more sense if he said ‘structural support beam/column rather than door because doors aren’t normally critical for structural integrity. -
Anybody else having issues with the format buttons on the top (bold, italic, underline, strike through) not turning off easily when you tap them on mobile? The italic button seems especially problematic.

A Republican Senator calls for a hearing on military intervention in Venezuela and its not Rand Paul. I’m a bit surprised that the Republicans are asking about it, but good on them for actually trying to do oversight. Edit: Anybody else having issues with the format buttons on the top not turning off easily on mobile? -

There’s really not much difference in regime change at gunpoint whether you use mercs or not. The main problem with using mercenary armies is that they’re only loyal as long as you pay them and even then, the loyalty can’t be stretched as far as true loyalty would be. -

Wouldn’t be the first time mercenaries got involved in this sort of thing. Might be the first time in South America without direct CIA involvement though. -
I meant that the ‘recently used devices’ section in account management doesn’t show up on iPhone, but it shows up on iPad. Pretty sure the 90 day cookie thing also applies to iPhone, so, it works regardless.

Could just be bad word+picture pairing. There’s also been incredibly few injuries or deaths for ‘mowing down people in the streets’. -

Would be nice to see the tweet she’s replying to though. -
The option to check the auto login stuff doesn’t appear to be available on mobile, at least not on the iPhone. Just mentioning that, though the 90 day cookie thing should apply to mobile as well.

Well yeah, oil is never going to completely go away since there are still plenty of applications that need oil and oil powered vehicles aren't going to disappear overnight. Also, Montana Gov. Steve Bullock is starting his campaign in two weeks. We're already at or past the limit for people in the two debates, so, the DNC is going to have some tough choices to make. IMO it should be expanded to a third day, but even two days in a row would be stretching it. We're going to have to figure out some fair (or fairer) way to do things if huge fields like this become the norm. -

All Brazil would need to do is to flee into the jungles and fight from there. (Vietnam reference btw) -

Yeah, it reminded me a little of when some people were thinking Ghaddafi fled to Brazil or whatever and then he broadcasted saying 'Yo, I'm still here and ain't going anywhere, TYVM!'.
