  1. 'All options are on the table' has become the go-to in order to not contradict Trump the Mercurial, diplomatic consequences nonwithstanding.
  2. It's certainly possible that Bolton was trying to play some mind games on Maduro, but still.... As for Guaido thinking he had a whole lot more support, according to a The Guardian liveblog post, he appears to actually have had more support, but due to his arrest being imminent (or there were rumors of it), they decided to do the plan earlier than they wanted and then most of that support balked at the plan being pushed early
  3. I didn't know you're from Venezuela. I've read a little about the Lima group (which Canada is also in, for some reason), but not the deeper background. Anyways, gotta wonder where Bolton is getting his intel from...
  4. A bit more I missed, Bolton also claims that the same Maduro aides knew about the revolt. While sympathisers or even insiders are possible, it seems like it'd be a massive leak if some Maduro aides got wind of it, so, I'm calling BS on that because those aides would have to be doing it secretly and just mentioning that there are aides who got wind of it could possibly blow their cover. tl;dr: If there are insiders, it'd make zero sense for Bolton to blow their cover.
  5. No need for personal attacks at each other Aside from saying 'all options are on the table' (which seems to be the go-to to avoid contradicting mercurial Trump), he's claiming that a few Maduro aides are working on some peaceful transfer thing. Only problem is that a Guaido spokesperson has said earlier that they aren't in any kind of talks with Maduro. So, one of them is lying.
  6. It does appear to have failed in it's immediate goal, but just because it failed doesn't mean the crisis is over yet.
  7. Yep. Thanks @ the site adminstrators ir whoever fixed it.
  8. Sec. of State even coined a name for it, 'Operacion Libertad' The Guardian liveblog link if anybody wants it: https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2019/apr/30/venezuela-opposition-leader-juan-guaido-claims-coup-underway-live-news
  9. Dammit, the captioning is terrible on that and flips from either acting like some kind of heavy accent (which Slavoj probably does have, but I don't think Jordan would have as it's doing that for both men) to transcribing normally. Anyways, the main problem with a penultimate communist utopia is that it runs smack into human psychology (particularily when dealing with groups larger than your typical hunter-gatherer tribe of over 10,000 years ago) and you'd have to fundamentally change human psychology in order to make it work. That's not to say that some socialist ideas like Social Security can work.
  10. I don’t see a gargantuan line break in your sig. +1 on enabling permanent login or auto login, I think they’re working on that.... I hope...
  11. Just wondering, what do you think would be the correct message? Also, the number of candidates means that theres a good variety of messages, so, those messages will get thoroughly tested out. However, the fact that there are so many choices means that they could easily run into the same problems as the Republicans did in 2016 simply because there is only so much pie to slice.
  12. I thought burn-in was only an issue for CRT monitors? Hence the whole 'screensaver' thing and screensavers just continued on with LCD/plasma because we all just got used to having them.
  13. To you, the point is clear, but you’d have to admit that a third party run has no realistic chance in the FPTP system. Yes, I know you’ve said that all we need to do is vote third party more so that they get a toe in the door, but that’s not Bruce’s question. To answer Bruces question for real, the Democrats certainly have the momentum and Trumps public opinion is in the danger zone. However, even then, it’s still uncertain who will win considering that the Democrats thought they had it in the bag in 2016.
  14. Okay, wasn't sure whether this new forum software did that or not.
  15. Double post because, uh, I don't know for sure if it shows edited posts as new posts: I'd like to lodge a complaint of an annoyance (that's what this thread is for, right?), you know the 'forums' 'blogs' 'activity', etc buttons at the top? Well, the hotspot for that extends about a half inch below the text and the hitbox is pretty close to the forum index buttons, making it easy to hit it when moving the mouse to those buttons. It's a minor annoyance, but I wouldn't be the only person to find it annoying.
  16. Apparently Trump fears Biden the most, and thus seems like the best to be able to defeat Trump, but how much of that is just from underestimating/ignoring the other candidates (though he admires Sanders to an extent) or just only seeing Biden as a worthy opponent. Hillary was also seen as being able to beat Trump perfectly well, and here we are, plus Biden has like twice the amount of political baggage that Hillary had. I can also see Trump becoming complacent if he thinks he's truly unbeatable and/or ignores a challenger until it's too late. In an interview, he said he wouldn't commit to one term. If Biden did manage to win the Presidency, seems like being a one term President would be healthier in the long run so as to work out the political issues and give a newer generation breathing space. Plus, there'd be a good chance of him not seeing through a second term.
  17. It seems to be a first person shooter type thing, probably like New Vegas or something, so, not interested anyway.
  18. I guess you can ask in the obsidian general discussion about that.
  19. If you mean the auto login feature, that's not working for me, I've double checked and it says it's enabled, but it's not happening. edit: I've also noticed that on occasion while loading, the forum will show for a brief second in the browser like a read-only version with all the graphics stripped and showing hyperlinks. Not sure what causes it, but just letting you guys know about that glitch. edit2: Actually, it seems to show up for the politics thread? Maybe because of the video? Also, in response to the earlier comment about the double new line indent, I'm not liking that either.
  20. Heh KaineParker. I bet it'll be safe to go beyond 30 pages now. :) In other news, Biden jumps in for reals.
  21. Fox news isn't doing the discord and chaos in that particular case, just highlighting a fault line that already exists between the more populist wing vs the rest, and Buttigeigs observation about the conditions that led to the rise in populist candidates still existing is correct anyway.
  22. Isn't Deadwood based on that one mining town that actually and practically was lawless for all intents and purposes, also highly corrupt? Though Deadwood is the actual name of one town.
  23. Actually, I think the number might be 20 now, but with Biden supposedly entering soon, it's practically already hit the cap of 20 that was set for the debates by your counting. IMO, they should spread it out further over three days rather than cap it. Ridiculous, I know, but they're going to have to figure out some fair(er) way to do things should massive fields like this become the norm. Re the soldiers at the border: I read that they gave up the weapons voluntarily to defuse the situation, which would certainly have been preferrable to the situation getting out of hand.
  24. It's a variation of the Ship of Theseus philosophical thought experiment, with the main difference being that the ship was never rebuilt completely from scratch, whether with parts of the original or not. Your conclusion of 'that's bull****' is just as valid as any other. The Gold Pavillion mentioned is also listed as one example of that philosophy in non-fiction books.
