  1. If you have the extra RAM, then installing Linux on the free VMware Player is a good way to try it out under Windows. Gone are the days of being restricted to one OS thanks to virtualized machines

I have Ubuntu & OSX Yosemite installed on VMware. They're fun to mess with, and run really smooth almost like it's natively installed (well Yosemite required some extra hacks to get running okay, and some functions like iMessage don't work because it's not detecting legit mac hardware)

  2. Bokishi has the same Thrustmaster Hotas-X flightstick I have. It's okay, I like it. It's no Saitek X52 (but nowhere near as expensive either), but it does the job.

Yes it's decent, was just looking for an entry level stick to get me in the game, figured I'd be looking at the in-game sticks mostly

  3. Elite Dangerous is probably teh most epic sandbox space flying game out right now. You can be a trader or a bounty hunter or whatever. It is also the benchmark Rift game. In the Rift everything is true to scale and massive. You can turn your head and look out your windows to the stars and watch huge ships and rocks whiz by. You can look down at your digital hands and watch them make the same joystick movements that you make. It feels less like a videogame and more like the holodeck. And 10x more next gen than PS4 and Xbone. Cross your eyes and you'll see what I see =]

  4. Euro Truck Simulator 2. Never thought trucking would be exciting, but it actually is fun and challenging trying to drive that hulking thing. Really realistic when turning your head out and checking for oncoming traffic when making a turn, using the Rift. Messed it up a few times when my trailer got stuck on the intersection with a line of traffic honking, when my turn was too tight. I was staring out at all the lifesize angry cars thinking, good thing this is not real lol.

  5. Asseto Corsa with the Oculus. Pain to setup, but once it's running it's worth it. Being able to sit in a Ferrari coc-kpit with full head tracking, and able to lean around and look at all the buttons and controls from any angle, and stick your head outside the window. This is the only racing game I know of where in coc-kpit view, you can side glance at your tires while driving to make sure they are aligning with the road lines. Now all I need is to ditch the 360 controller and get a pc steering wheel lol

  6. Yes controller turns your view with right stick, but looking up and down with controller is disabled, only your head can do that. DOF blurring effects are also disabled because your own eyes can almost supply a similar effect themselves.

Playing Alien Isolation like this is like playing on the holo deck. The sense of presence in that world is unbelievable. The only thing that reminds you that it's just a video game is that you are using a controller to move and you get a pause menu when you push start button

  7. 360 controller, to walk and your head movement to aim. It's implemented very smoothly and lifelike in Alien Isolation. Its positional tracking lets you peak your head past barriers, or vent grating at life size enemies.

I tried HL2 but it's vr config is sloppy and made me feel sick literally

  8. No I expected the low res, as it's only 1080p resolution strapped so close to your face. What I wasn't used to is having to worry about judder, and always needing 75fps at all times to achieve "presence". This makes it so you have to lower details a bit to achieve that constant 75 fps while your game is being rendered in 1080p twice (for each eye). This will be even harder to achieve if a 4k version of the Oculus came out. Not even 60 fps is enough for smooth head tracking. I'm expecting future video cards to have optimization for VR as more people adopt it. What makes up for the seemingly low res right now is immersion. It even blows my multi-monitor setup out the window

There's a big difference between seeing that Alien Isolation monster on a flat screen, and seeing it physically in front of you and 9 feet tall; you better run lol.

Even Elite Dangerous is epic on my oculus + hotas joystick setup. I am caption of my own starship with full reign of the galaxy! I can put my ship on auto pilot and physically stand up and look out my side window and see the stars and asteroids go by. Everything is huge and I feel like I really am in space.
