  1. The special types of ammo might not be a horrible idea. They don't have the system set up for ammo as part of inventory and I would think that designating it as an inventory item would be a pain. On the other hand, if there were some way to implement special ammo types that would be limited in availability and duration wouldn't be so bad. It's tricky to implement. Frankly, I don't think it's worth the effort to do it, but if enough people wanted it, they could take a stab at it. As long as it's not one of those things that a small and vocal minority wants that takes resources to implement and causes a bug stream that ravages the game like a plague of locusts on Egypt. The sling thing seems like it wouldn't be bad. All weapons in the game are simply stats dumped onto an icon, really. Other than animations of using a sling, which wouldn't be that different than seeing Aloth wave a wand all over the place, the mechanics would be easy. Put stats together for a ranged weapon, make an icon, call it a sling. I didn't miss slings in my game, but they have a ton of other stuff in the game. It depends on how they differentiate a sling from a bow, crossbow, flintlock, etc.
  2. I'd apologize for the bump, but no one seems to care about this joint much anyhow. I sat down tonight for the first time in at least a couple of weeks to play some Pathfinder and beat the last scenario on legendary. Good times! Everything went like clockwork. I mean, you ditch a lot of cards, but it's all about balancing the clock against smart exploration. I only faced Karzoug once and it didn't do that weird thing where he keeps getting shuffled back into a deck in which he's the only card. I knew he was last 'cause I put him there, got to him with my druid armed with Sunburst and Val jonesin' for blood. Ezren used Staff of Hungry shadows for 15 and then 13, and Karzoug went down like a cheap hooker during fleet week.
  3. What's the s in sRPG mean? I'm still kind of in minecraft, but it's losing luster again. I might go back to Tyranny, but I never made it past the first few scenes. I should at least play it long enough to know more of the NPCs, I guess.
  4. That's where I was going. I believe the vast majority of 'romances' are unrequited. Both parties might suspect what one or the other feel, but either lack the willingness or desire to broach it. The best game romances is one with plenty of evidence it exists, but it's never explicitly stated. Kind of like that little red-haired girl I liked in sixth grade but never had the guts to tell. Kind of the same with sex in games only opposite. You do it then you dread talking about it because you know you're not going to be at that location for much longer and both of you just hope nobody's preggers. Make it like real life where one or the others spends four months trying to get into sombody's pants or skirt and then scrambles like hell to get out five minutes after the act.

I'm neither transgendered nor homosexual, and I'm not making fun of anyone either, but I would rather see one genuine, reasonable, and believable romance between a transgendered characters than another half-assed politically correct dating sim. Make me care about the two of them as characters and have some investment in them. I think it would be a waste of writing time and detract from the reasons I play the game, but at least it would be better than virtually all the romance I've seen hitherto. How about this for romance? The PC and the Devil of Caroc fall in love, even have physical desires for one another. Talk about a situation where neither one is having sex but they're both screwed. ...Or even one where the Aloth, Aloth's alter ego, and Eder have their own little love triangle. A three way in two bodies! ...Or even one more common in real life: the PC and his best buddy's wife really hit it off and they develop some real sexual and emotional tension but they can't do a damned thing about it, not only because it would be simply wrong, but it would also be idiotic. I would love for the game to depict real friendship, and I think in some ways they've done that pretty well. After all, people going through an extended crisis together do tend to form close bonds. Sometimes those bonds can even become a physical relationship. So, by all means, make a romance in the game. Just don't make it cringeworthy and don't dilute good writing in developing one relationship by thinking you have to create one for every combination conceivable. If the writers really want to take a stab at it, use a rapier, not a broadsword, and use the point, not the hilt. Any imagery you read into that analogy is your own damned fault.
  6. I didn't read everything, so I might be stepping on toes. Beg pardon if so. If the team wants to do a romance, isn't forced into checking boxes for every type of romance to satisfy specific interest groups, can find a way to express a truly meaningful relationship, doesn't reduce romance into some sort of weird CRPG functionalism, refrain from trite, clichéd, and offensively stultifyingly hackneyed scenarios, and manage to make it work properly with the game as a whole package, I'm down with it. Good luck with that. I would hate to be categorized as part of one tribe or another, but if I must claim one category or another, then put me in the anti-romance crowd. Not to get along. I've got a total of 23 posts and I've been a member for a week or something like that. I like getting along, but I have no need or interest in currying favor. I simply don't want romances in the game because I think they'll screw them up. As a last word, I will say that if they can do it well, I'll enjoy it. The best argument is success and while I'd fight against the romance idea, if they pull it off then I'm going to admit I was wrong.
  7. Add me to the people who've only played it single player. Steam tells me that I've played 396 hours, but I tend to leave the game running while I do other things, sometimes for quite a while. Still, I'd bet that I've put in a couple hundred hours. As a single player game, it approximates the squad feel of the table top extremely well. Some of the campaign scenarios are irritating, but most of them are great fun and even the irritating ones grant a degree of satisfaction in completing them. Also, I think you can set up multiplayer games fairly easily, so if you have people around here that play you could arrange a game with someone who isn't a complete stranger. That's cool in that you could try your hand (and warband) against a human player instead of the AI. My schedule is too erratic to do that, but it's always a possibility. If the question is, "should I buy the game even if I only intend to play it single player?" The answer is, "Yes!"
  8. So throw another god on the barbie and add side of dragonslaw? Are we going to reach level 18 over the course of time it took to finish the base Pillars game? ...Or will Pillars get to that point in the expansions?
  9. Either that's sarcastic, which is funny, or it's serious, which is hilarious. I think that's very true and I agree, but I think equating subclasses and PrCs is a bit assumptive. Josh Sawyer specifically compared them to Kits in AD&D 2E, which were far less problematic and limiting than PrCs in 3E. We'll see, of course. Fair statement. It's not like I won't end up playing the game... probably about seven times, but maybe only three. I'm not sure.
  10. ...why are you bothered with something which (if you so choose) doesn't impact your playthrough? It's a solo game and if you don't want to use sub-/multi-classes you don't have to. It just offers you more options in how you want to build your character. I loved that aspect in NWN 1/2 but if I wanted to I could just play with the base classes. I'm a lover not a fighter, so I'm not really trashing the system. I will, nevertheless, try to explain my position. I see the design in Pillars 1 as elegant, interesting, and fun. I don't mind subclasses if it all existed in a vacuum and it didn't matter to me as the end user. However, it does impact me. I don't like the use of alternate rules and exceptions and the like because I firmly believe that it muddies up the elegant system from the original. Not that I won't play it and probably enjoy it, but I always hated prestige classes because, rather than expanding choices as the advocates contended, they limit the player through entirely mechanical means. Better that prestige (and sub-) classes come organically (oh my Lord, please forgive the expression) from the campaign and story.
  11. Minecraft Windows 10. The niece likes it and it's kind of a conversation thing with her. Plus, it's interesting. I've been trying to make a working elevator. Hasn't met with much success so far, but I hope I can figure something out eventually. Anyhow, using glass blocks and lava, I named one of my maps after my niece is rather large lava writing. She seemed to be pretty thrilled with that. A lot of work, but not as irritating as the elevator so far.
  12. Losing Mr. Avellone doesn't bother me so much. Frankly, he left and I've heard that he kind of bad-mouthed the project afterwards. I kind of think personal integrity matter and it's a real turn-off that he aired his dirty laundry in public. On the other hand, this is the internet and maybe I'm taking his comments out of context. I do agree about suddenly taking the PC down to first level by having 'memory' or even more sadly 'soul' loss. It's just... stultifying. How ridiculous can you get. Still, I'm almost certain I'll 'back' the game and even more certain I'll enjoy it. I don't want to be entirely negative, but I share some of these concerns. ...But whatever weird thing they do with 2 won't detract from my experience with 1.
  13. I've actually deleted and restarted many parties, either with leveled or non-leveled characters. I think the game can be fun that way. Not that I'm defending bugs in the game. :stern look at StormdudeGT: I'm just saying that the first several decks go ultra-fast so, if you run afoul of one of the many bugs, you can usually catch up quickly. If you're a quick player, the same day even.
  14. Certain things should be voiced by the companions. Some things should be floating text. The voice over stuff is for great lines delivered with good talent. The floating text I see as more finesse. Something that the player need not see to enjoy the game, but rewards players who pay attention. big scenes and important dialogue should be voiced as long as Obsidian has the talent on hand to write the lines and the voice acting available to do justice to the text.
  15. First of all, your last post, infinitwhatever, has in one stroke undermined your prior statement about a new sheriff (lead developer) in town. Don't bother hitting Mr. Null up for changes. Clearly, Mr. Sawyer still has a hand on the tiller, and it's iron. The hand... and maybe the tiller. At any rate, when I see things like 'subclass,' I cringe. Are we going back to splat-books, twenty volumes of alternate rules, and the non-sense of prestige classes. I'm new around here, but I thought Mr. Sawyer didn't like those things. I guess maybe kill XP isn't the joke I thought it was. Might be we'll see that soon also. I want to see the game evolve, but multi-classing is simply not what I wanted to see and 'subclasses' simply make my left eyebrow twitch. Sometimes my right eyebrow also.
  16. looking at fig, I can definitely say that, along with lowballing the starting level, Obsidian lowballed the starting figure. There's no way they don't believe they'll get a hell of a lot more money. It's funded at 121%? Give me a break. Not that I'm complaining. They made their finesse roll, as it seems to me. Now, as for the level one thing... I think it was all a bad dream and Eothas is still around, only now he's the anti-god fighting for the mortal races and trying to level the playing field. He's good, but he's bad.
  17. Ha! I think they'll have you start at level 1, give you increments of super soul juice in the first hour, and level you up in three or four traunches up to level 10 and then start you on the adventure proper. Well... probably not, but it would be funny if the did. Plus, that solution gives you a high level adventure, gives a tutorial to new players, and lets you design your character from scratch. I hate the ide, but it's an interesting if terrible solution.
  18. If I can scrounge up some shekels, I'll throw them at Obsidian, but I'm going to wait for later in the month to see if I have a rich uncle die or some such. Kind of hard since I haven't talked to any of my uncles in years, but I can always hope. Meanwhile, I guess I don't mind using the credit card. I have one just for online purchases anyhow. Either that or I'll send over a promissory note or maybe a couple hundred bucks of pennies packaged in hello kitty boxes or something.
  19. Seems to me that there could be skills in the game that don't make me feel like they detract from what is built as a combat sim. It would be cool for the game to offer something that plays a role other than a non-stop killing machine. Most CRPGs don't seem to do that well, although I did get a kick out of the way different things like magic and thieving skills unfolded in Planescape. That was a great game that gave the player something to do other than fight non-stop. Also, I'd like to have a non-combat solution to the final boss. Yeah, games want to make it harder and harder to kill the boss. I don't mind starting at level one so much. Not ideal, but I can take it. I just want to feel like maybe my guy doesn't spend every second of the day either slicing down some random noob or counting the gold fillings he yanks out of the noob once he dispatches him.
  20. Naw, no full VO. Main crit with quality voice over talent and use the saving to do any number of other things, amongst which would be killing the trademarked Obsidian bugs that plague their offerings. I've played a lot of pathfinder and the bugs are just a royal pain in my majestic rump.
  21. Yeah, when I saw this thread, I was happy. Then I realized what it meant and now I'm sad. I try not to spoil too much stuff in a game I already know I'm going to buy, so I'm just thinking about whether I want to jump on yet another crowdfunding bandwagon... and whether I can scrape together the cash.
  22. I think first level sounds great only with a new character, but that ship's no longer visible from land. The idea of taking the PC and NPCs down to first level sounds weird, but I don't mind. I disagree with rheingold, though. Just because your character is diminished subsequent to the first game doesn't change everything he did there. If you volunteer at a soup kitchen, become homeless, and are therefore reduced to dining at the soup kitchen where you once fed people who are now like yourself, it doesn't change your prior work. There were choices and consequences in the first game. After that, an anvil fell on you and someone pick-pocketed your soul. Not all consequences come as a result of your choice. If the universe is a factory of free will, then there's a boatload of choices from other people that consequent you every day. You just have to choice the swine back with a few consequences to show 'em who's boss.
