Finishing Blow description says it adds damage = 50% + 50% percentage of health lost. Devastating Blow, 50% + 200% percentage health lost. But after the target has lost 30% health, Devastating Blow provides no additional bonus beyond the flat 50% base. (Maybe it's set to the old PoE 1 system where the bonus only starts after losing 50% of health? After that it seems to provide a large bonus, like 150% to 240% damage.) Fixing this will also make single-class Rogue significantly better.

Tested Devastating Blow some more---it will actually recalculate the damage bonus on % health lost for the second strike, provided you've done enough damage. So it does have some synergy. [Edit: Looks like Devastating Blow / Finishing Blow are bugged or the description is wrong. They don't apply the percentage health bonus until enemy has lost a large % of health, probably 50% as in PoE 1.]

Deadfire class ability list on rpgcodex shows Abjuration as PL 9 Paladin ability, since 9 is the max that suggests that Paladin doesn't get Great Abjuration. (Sure, saying that Beckoner summons are immune to Paladin Abjuration ability in the subclass description doesn't rule out the possibility that they're not immune to Paladin Great Abjuration... but that borders on purposefully confusing. However, the specification "Paladin Abjuration" does imply that there might be non-Paladin Abjuration abilities.) But "Great Abjuration" doesn't show up for any of the other classes. Maybe the list is incomplete, or maybe it's just a scroll (or enemy) spell. Would be tragicomic to rip through most of game with party of Beckoners only for an endgame boss to have many uses of Great Abjuration or equivalent. Priests do get a spell called "Dismissal" at PL 8....

Your Tiers List [Base Classes, Subclasses]
SaruNi replied to theBalthazar's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
So Barbarians will get (some version of) Brute Force and Blood Thirst. Brute Force---great for Mage Slayers. PL 6 not too bad. Blood Thirst---not replaced by the upgrade to Barbaric Blow after all. But PL 7. So multiclass can get it at level 19. Similarly, if Deathblows works with spells (as in PoE 1), that will give (now severely nerfed) DD caster Assassin/Caster something to look forward to... at level 19. -
Your Tiers List [Base Classes, Subclasses]
SaruNi replied to theBalthazar's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
What's going on with the "Watershaper X" spells? Old subclass idea they discarded? Spells granted through special mechanism?... Shows Paladins getting Abjuration, but no class getting Great Abjuration.... -
[edit: was mistaken about full attack] Skaen's dual wielding would have nice synergy with Finishing Blow if % health were recalculated for the second weapon swing, but [edit: actually it does!]. Two attacks do have synergy with most of the strike abilities since they should double the chance of applying status effects.

The spiritual weapon's club modal has some synergy with Trickster. And most Rogue active abilities are full attack (except the one that causes paralysis on next primary attack), so they don't suffer from dual wielding... though in terms of immediate damage they're generally worse than Backstab or Assassinate. The extra Shadowing Beyond is nice, but multiclass won't get it until level 13---and even then it's one use at level 13, two uses at level 16. Devastating Blow looks very good but multiclass also wouldn't get it until level 13. Skaen gets "Spiritual Ally" at power level 6 (multiclass level 16)---not clear whether other Priests get that or not. Maybe it's a summons? Wasn't in PoE 1. Might go with Trickster thematically. Also, "invisibility" from Withdraw doesn't trigger Assassinate bonuses.

Confused should cause foe-only hostile effects to also affect allies. However, it doesn't affect chants (tested on Come Soft Winds of Death and The Dragon Thrashed). Unfortunately this prevents berserker chanters from using Come Soft Winds to heal themselves from their own summons.

Withdraw is supposed to cause Invisible. A DoT that hits while invisible usually benefits from Assassinate (tested with Ray of Fire). If it caused Invisible, it would add Assassinate to the DoT hit. It doesn't. If it's not intended to cause invisible or work with Assassinate (or other bonuses triggered by invisibility), please change the description....

Non-offensive spells end invisibility but not stealth
SaruNi posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Casting any spell will end invisibility (tested with Smoke Veil), but only spells that involve an attack roll will end stealth. Hopefully the bug is the former. Non-offensive spells (for example, summoning Priest's spiritual weapon or casting buffs) shouldn't break invisibility. -
I'm pretty sure damaging traps used to work with Assassinate, but they don't anymore (at least, I don't see the bonus penetration being added). Too bad, because you can still cast a trap and get the spell point back before combat starts, which might have made up for multiclass lack of spells. Now DoT ticks like Ray of Fire also bring you out of invisibility every time they hit, so it's one Assassinate per invisibility. (Didn't test with Withdraw yet though. Oh, and Ray of Fire is bugged now so that it hits the caster too.)

For most damaging spells, power level corresponds to at least +10% damage (or +5% for projectiles and jumps, but you get more projectiles and jumps). For most levels the power level difference between single and multi-class is 2, so the +25% from Barbarian Blooded is barely worth multiclassing for, especially since single-class can get +1 Penetration. However, Blood Frenzy and Spirit Frenzy do work with spells (whereas similar effects like Deep Wounds do not, if the description is accurate)....

Berserker Spirit Frenzy not modified by Berserker subclass
SaruNi posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Upgraded Frenzy---specifically tested Spirit Frenzy---is not affected by Berserker subclass modifications to Frenzy (just regular Frenzy Strong and Fit, instead of Tenacious and Hardy; but doesn't cause Confused either). Seems unintended, though I guess not necessarily.... -
Paladin Abjuration will probably be in Deadfire. Scroll of Greater Abjuration definitely is (you can add it with the console---yes it's basically Weapon of Mass Summons Destruction). Beckenor's summons are immune to Abjuration. Hmm. Looks like it specifies "Paladin ability abjuration" though... not sure if that applies to the Greater Abjuration scroll (not clear that Greater Abjuration is necessarily Paladin, and not clear that scrolls count... though perhaps they should). Should be able to test it with Berserk/Confused....

My experience of Philadelphia has been more: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/55215c2ce4b0e4ad50063b7d/t/59bac97018b27d192ced976b/1505413490961/?format=1000w The Eagle in the hyperrealistic dog mask did win me over a little---don't think I've ever seen Josh wearing an actual realistic Frog Helm (that looks a lot like a frog). (Frog with pickled peppers at Chili Szechuan in West Philadelphia is wonderful.) But back on topic....

Confusion confirmedPoor Achilles... Poor one of us μῆνιν ἄειδε Ἰησοῦ Ἀχιλῆος (Nonstandard translation, for particularly dull children: "This is the story of an angry man") οὐλομένην, ἣ μυρί᾽ ἄλγε᾽ ἔθηκε.... ἀνδρὶ παρ᾽ ἀκλήρῳ, ᾧ μὴ βίοτος πολὺς εἴη, ἢ... I’ve missed you The irony of your name was just too much. If you don't know ancient Greek, the first passage is a play on the opening of the Iliad: "Rage sing of Josh's Achilles, / accursed, that countless pains brought" (in ancient Greek "Josh" is, fittingly, the same name as "Jesus")... the second is from the part of the Odyssey where Achilles, in the Underworld, famously says he'd rather be alive as the servant "of a poor (lotless) man whose livelihood is not much" than king of all the dead. My own handle has a bit of ironic relevance, with which I'll let go of these tangents: "toshidoshi ya saru ni kisetaru saru no men every year yo---monkey(s)-upon wearing monkey 's mask(s) On this New Year's hokku Master Bashō said, 'I scrawled this poem because I felt sorry to see people remain on the same spot and tumble into the same pitfalls year after year.'"
