  1. JUST IN: Paris fire department on French TV: "The structure of the cathedral will survive." https://twitter.com/pzf/status/1117894398459752448 This is good. It's something, at least.
  2. I've seen fires of this size continue for hours in the past, despite fireman intervention. It'll take a while. And as Gfted points out too, I reckon there's probably a pressure to try and save as much as is possible and resorting to a means that can prove even more destructive can be a complicated business.
  3. On more positive news, a new film by Hungarian master Béla Tarr will be released this summer. One of the finest filmmakers still living, and this would be his first since he announced an early "retirement" back in 2011, following The Turin Horse. https://thefilmstage.com/news/bela-tarr-to-premiere-new-film-missing-people-this-summer-in-vienna/
  4. https://twitter.com/pzf/status/1117849564612943876 The spire has just collapsed...
  5. This is what the news sources I've seen have reported as the likely issue. Apparently the same happened back in March in Saint-Sulpice.
  6. https://twitter.com/pzf/status/1117841259157229568 This is insane.
  7. A close friend of mine has a small urn with the dirt that was in Guevara's torso when his body was found. That's really weird. This is the funny thread, isn't it? His father was the person in charge of locating the body, and I reckon he also lived alongside a long part of the process, plus his family's history which runs pretty deep into the recent history of Bolivia and so on.

  9. There are some crazies who do. Some crazies also romanticize Hitler for that matter. But it's not surprising to see people assuming one side gets special treatment. What about Hitler / Stalin slash fiction? I'd read that. I mean, I already watch Game of Thrones.

  11. Sounds better than his band at least.
  12. First episode for Game of Thrones S08 was... Alright. Lots of setup basically, and it did feel rather soapy, but sort of in line with the openings to past seasons. Oddly televisual compared to some of the most recent seasons and episodes too. Of course, for an episode that is all about setting up the rest of the season (and series for that matter), it has to deliver on hooks and boy does it have them. Even if I can't say to have thought much of this particular chapter, looking forward to next Sunday.
  13. (On a more serious note, very cool to see a kids show featuring the music of Bang on a Can (the original clip does, the above is Merzbow).)
  14. This is pretty cool: Courtesy of Finland.
  15. Del Toro and Pearlman both tried getting Universal to greenlight a third film to conclude the trilogy for years before the reboot killed any chances of it happening.
  16. The Hellboy remake just debuted to a dismal 11% at RT, and is expected to do about $16M on opening weekend. Again, Del Toro's Hellboy died for this.
  17. Same. I'll also add that these "totally not animated" live-action remakes are pretty gaudy affairs to my eyes. Anthropomorphized cartoon animals are fine enough, but when applying this degree of realism the effect is very busy and uncanny. It doesn't have nearly the same appeal to me (same for the Jungle Book films, which are based on a property I do like on the other hand).
  18. What was Aces brothel, do tell ? Well, lol, it all started out with Ace, Amentep, and moriveth adopting girl avatars and became "working girls". Eventually a few others joined, me included. Had some ridiculous shenanigans going on. Lots of opposition from some of the bis members, but Overseer allowed it. I still have some of the thread on file. LC saved as much as he could before BIS closed its doors for good. Saucy. Tell us more. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  19. https://www.bbc.com/news/amp/science-environment-47873592 First ever image of a black hole. Also, it's a monster.
  20. Phil Ochs died this day, 1976. As good an excuse to share some of his work.
